For the guys that have never ridden deep powder and mountains. These videos help but, there is a steep learning curve to even get started with this sport. I rode with a guy that watched all these learning videos many times. He saID HE said "I am ready" and we didn't even push him. We took him into flat meadows, no trees, no climbing, tons of encouragement. Nobody gave him a bad time about getting stuck numerous times. After the second and start of the third day he was in tears begging us to get him off the mountain and back into the city. He didn't at all like it. He had a new sled all the equipment what he thought was training. This is a difficult sport, takes lost of energy and you had better be in shape. However I have ridden in the mountains for 17 years now, I am now 68 and still love the sport. There is nothing like bucking through the trees on a machine that has seems endless amount of power. Feeling that machine want to shoot out from underneath you when you squeeze the throttle. In fact after 5 days of riding my wrists get sore from hanging on. So Kudoes to Dan for giving tips on the sport. It has helped me with technique. But it is on the job training. Two tips. One don't look at trees as targets. You will hit them. You Have to picture yourself going by them. Even if its just a couple of inches. Because sometimes that all you have. Also get in shape. I walk in North Dakota several miles a day in the winter with a pack loaded with books. I don't care if its neg 35 and sometimes it is. Because when you get on the sled and ride out 3 or so miles from the cabin and get off the trail its GAME ON. Good luck and have fun its a hoot.

I hear you loud and clear. 67 here and decent shape. But still 67.

Hi Dan, I absolutely loved this video. I turn 60 in a week and have been riding the trees for years (albeit not quite as steep!). Thanks for letting the "non-technical" and less experienced riders see what this sport offers! I am constantly working to improve my riding technique and your videos show subtle unspoken nuances that the less experienced are not yet noticing. Please keep making these types of videos!

As a new sledder these videos really help to have something to work on while out on the snow. My knowledge base is much larger than my experience base because of these but it really makes every day on the snow more productive. Thanks!

I've never even rode a sled, but when I finally will, I'm going to remember all this theory. Everything about this riding series is so cool!

Great video Dan. I’m very excited this winter to be bringing an Afghanistan veteran into the mountains with me. I brought him once last winter on his old sled. We had nothing but problems so he didn’t get a great experience, but he now has a much newer a XYS platform machine and he is excited. I think I’m more excited to teach him many of the lessons I have learned by watching your channel. Thanks for doing what you do.

Absolutely love the teaching videos. Now that i am quite in control on the flat i cant wait to put in pratice theses tips on shallow slopes and then in real mountains. Thanx Dan for your knowledge

I’d love to see videos like this in the north east where there’s only 3-4’ of snow and you can make a snowman out of all of it! Just got back from west Yellowstone MT and I felt like a hero till I came back east

With the same type of line choices, what are your tips and tricks, when the snow is wet and heavy. Or spring-like conditions. This is much more difficult!
@mikegatherall3774
@mikegatherall3774 Жыл бұрын
Traction is very different …the heavy snow can be both slower and faster with slight lead in momentum change ….too slow and it drags on the sled / loads up the track and you get high sided on the boards …too much momentum and the sled gets a hold and will launch you forward …. Better brake control is really important in the heavier snow as it’s less forgiving in many regards

I have an XM and I find it hard to keep the front end front going up the hill when I try to sidehill...any ideas?
@jschenkyou
@jschenkyou Жыл бұрын
I have an XM also and am trying to figure out the heavy front end problem too. I think part of it is throttle/Brake feather, and burning brake, but what helped quite a bit was letting out my front strap on the track and putting my feet back 1 step on the rails. Good luck!
