I don't really care how much CO2 its construction causes. EVERYTHING has to be constructed at some point. Its how green it is after that, that counts. The train situation is indeed concerning, but I don't think anything else is a concern in the long term. I wish Saudi Arabia the best of luck with this.

Why not? Building a huge wall in middle of a desert is the least efficient use of our planet's resources, it's a monument to human arrogance, even bigger than Phoenix. If you want sustainable make it smaller circles near water sources. I mean look at our ancestors and how they built cities with limited resources.
@jan.tichavsky

@@whitneywhitney8356This the opposite of green. Long travel times because it's narrow strip, long cables, pipes, tall building, needing megawatts just to keep livable conditions inside. This will be in history books under the point how to not build ecological habitats.

No roads, no cars. Apart from walking, how is everyone getting around? Is it going to be a large version of a '20 minute city?
@gionniblood
@gionniblood 8 ай бұрын
They plan to have stores and other necessities at "walking distance", so no need to move around for that. Realistically people will have to and will want to move so (this is a total assumption) there will probably be some sort of trains running across the building
@vinny142
@vinny142 8 ай бұрын
" Is it going to be a large version of a '20 minute city?" That is the plan, but with the added difficulty of being 500 meters tall. You will learn to love elevators and stairs. Also: if you have a medical emergency you are S.O.L. because no cars = no ambulances. There was talk of having a massive train infrastructure underneath the thing but they just reduced the number of stations from one per 4 km to one per 20km so that's now useless.

You won't be walking around. It's a prison for poor people, ie. most all the normies in the world. You will own nothing and you will be happy. Similar sort of egos. More money than sense for both lots of peeps. And someone somewhere, with an equally concieted mind, will say "Because they can". There lies the analogy. Water vapor causes a bigger greenhouse effect than anything else on the planet according to a NASA study. Plants thrive on CO pumped into the soil according to a study. Good top soil is carbon rich which is why it's black. If we planted more forests, food forest, created more agroforestry farms the plants would grow bigger from the access CO2. Since the 1980s astronomers are measuring the increase of temperature on the surface of the Sun. It is raditing more heat onto the Earth. Carbon emission quotas and the carbon footpring concept was pushed by big oil companies for better PR. Buying and selling emission quotas is a huge business. In the 1970s in the USA they were saying that the next ice age is coming. Scientists who question the CO2 emission caused global warming theory are silenced. For these reasons I think CO2 emission caused global warming is a lie. Transporting those heavy sea liners would need a lot of fuel. If you worry about emissions... Cheap geopolymers made from local sand as building material would be better.

I wonder where they have hidden the cramped living quarters to house migrant workers whose passports have been confiscated after being lied to about their wage rates, you know, like they did when building all their extravagant skyscrapers. The new camps looked impressive but I’d say they would be to house higher ranking employees. A construction project of this size would require a much larger facility than what was shown and yet it’s made to appear humane and adequate. It might be one of the safest places in the world to live but it would probably rate as one of the worst to be a construction worker.

This seems like a grandiose encroachment of man onto nature rather than a sustainable symbiotic design. Cutting off 170 miles of wildlife corridors will have unintended consequences.. and 1500 feet of mirrored glass seems like a death trap for migratory birds that carry seed diversity many miles inland. Altering storm water drainage over 170 kilometers seems like it could also have unintended ecological consequences as well.

Some of the biggest carbon footprint, is the making, and installing of one of those oversized windmills polluting the landscapes. They need a load of fossil fueled trucks to get the towers, motors, and the blades to goodness knows where, from goodness knows where. When the windmills's days are done, they have to dismantle the things and bury the blades. If they are lucky, they might be able to put a new set of blades to go on the top, and a new motor. Otherwise, the whole shebang will be take down somewhere and polluting the ground in some windmill graveyard. It hurts the greenies' narrative about all that, but it's true. The blades are made with so many composit materials they won't break down. The idea of alternative power is great, but the reality of it isn't, re carbon footprint. But greenies will go on believing it is because the politicians, and the general (biased) media says so. Oh well, I hope the powers that be, live and learn about all this.

But now the rest of the world knows that Saudi Arabia and Dubai are just tourist traps yet every building is built with slave labor and no building code. The Burj didn’t even have a sewer connection until this year. Towers constantly burn because there is no fire protection.
