Watching this really makes me happy but sad at the same time. As an insulator collector they don't build poles as they used to! Job is fast but the poles going up today are getting cheaper and less respecting of nature around it. Utility poles built before the 2000s were art that complimented both the street it serviced and the job it did with beautiful glass and porcelain that lasted way longer than it's life span (50-60 years)! Lineman took great pride and made each neighborhood of utility poles artwork expressing great appreciation for our need for electricity and phone services! Now it's throw up plastic, rubber and ceramic up on new wood and forget about it until five or ten years later when it's broken fast like everything else made in 2010s! I appreciate everything the ancestry of lineman has done for many years to keep the lights on!

I know it! I'm a collector as well and the lines supplying my valley are 19.8kv phase ground lines that used to be on wonderful porcelain 1inch pin insulators, now all the new ones are either silicone or these tall porcelain post insulators. I never have liked the silicone insulators of any type, I have some from I assume the early 90s and they are just cracking and falling apart. Then the new post insulators that are normally on a slight turn, they are on these 45 degree brackets, and since they are soo tall, they have a balancing act on what will bend the bracket/ crossarm or not. Out of the 15 to 20 places they have those, only one pole hasn't gotten over 10 degrees bent. The old pin insulators where also on a 45 degree bracket, but because they where so much shorter they will literally take any load that I have seen thrown at them, there aren't that many in service still, but out of the around 10 to 15 I have not seen one bent any noticeable amount. And back to the post insulators, there is one pole where they literally put one of the 45 brackets on a part of the line that is almost straight! Its only been a year since they did that and its already bent down almost touching the crossarm because of the force pushing down!

@@thatonelonelyeagle5398 Nice! There where a good bit of cool colors then! I would say mine is from the 30s to 60s, some very beautiful golden browns that I love!

Lots of changes between the seventies & now. Fire retardent clothing. Safety glasses & flash shields/ flash hood. Rubber sleeves & better cover. Less climbing, more buckets & better equipment. They don’t show the heavy smoking & beer drinking back then

That was interesting. Do you have any more films like this, for example about plumbing or carpentry?

We glad you like it. As a film scanning company, we can never anticipate what we get. at this time we have no such films, but we will post them once we get them. We do have a second film on Electric Linemen and Safety on their job. Thanks for asking! :)
