Interestingly, the Asura and Devas fight constant wars, because there is huge tree the size of the universe. Its roots are in Asura territory, but because Deva live above, they get the fruits. So it’s not jealousy on the Asura’s part, they got the bad end of the deal. Now where have we heard this before? Two groups of supernatural people, fighting against each other over some damned tree, and one of those groups is called Asura. Aesura. Aesir. Oh yes, some scholars posit a relationship between Buddhism and Germanic Polytheism, because they both come from the ancient Indo-European religion. Nepal and the North of the Indian Subcontinent were settled by the Indo-Aryans.
@happymate8943
@happymate8943 2 жыл бұрын
Technically the aesir and vanier weren't fighting over a tree. If I remember they were fighting because it started with freya and her magic. Also you confused buddhism with Hinduism. The devas and asuras roles on buddhism is a bit different. Other European religions have references of a divine tribal war, and names like devas. That's because sanskrit is one of the original languages of the world. I don't know if aryan was a actual racial* group that existed or the right name to use for such a group. I know Indians especially in the mondern like using the term.

@@happymate8943 Yes, Aryans were a people group that originated in Iran. 'Iran' literally means 'land of the Aryans'. Notice how similar the words sound. Iran was the ancient name for what westerners would call Persia for thousands of years (even going back to Ancient Greek times). But the last Shah changed the name back to Iran. During the Indo-European migrations the Aryans moved into Europe and established the people groups there. Along with bringing their language which was the progenitor for many modern European languages.

@@J3diMindTrix Sorry I meant racial group. I remember looking it up, and it says it was ethnicity/culture. In other words it was iran or arya culture group. It was until the 1950s were people started considering it as a genetic racial thing Also the language you're talking about is sanskrit.

It's pretty much confirmed at this point that the ancient Germanic religion and also the Greek/ Mediterranean mythology comes from indo European settlers, that explains the links with Hinduism and also to a certain extent Mazdyanism and therefore even ancient Hebrew oral tradition.

This reminds me of a story I read in Chinese mythology. There was a Buddhist family that was very devote. The father was so devote that when he died, he was carried to Buddhist heaven by heavenly cranes. After his death, the son leaves for the traditional mourning period and leaves the mother with some money to give to monks that might visit. Unfortunately without any men to keep her devoted, she quickly strayed from the virtuous path and sin like crazy. Like she did every kind of sin you can think of. She got to taste meat for the first time and killed dogs for dinner, she refused to give any of the money her son left her for the monks nor any food (except one time when she gave her scraps to a monk, condemning him for hell too). As her final sin, when her son returned, she lied to him about whether or not she gave out the money he left her for the monks. When she died, she was condemned to Buddhist hell where she has to kneel on a bed of nails forever. After her death, the son changed his name and became a monk. He was so devote that he gained the ability to visit Buddhist heaven while alive. Unfortunately when he got there, he found out that his mother isn't there, and did everything he could at first to find her, and then try to save her soul. He even convince Buddha to visit hell with released a whole bunch of souls at once. However, he came too late and the mother was now serving a new sentence in Gakido, always begging for food on earth but having it turn to ash upon touching her lips. In the end, the son saved her soul by throwing the first ever festival to honor the dead, and after she ate for the first time, she reincarnated as a dog and was treated fairly by her owners until her son came to bring her to heaven to reunite with her husband.

This is interesting, as Dante's Divine Comedy was published in 1320. I am curious about the Zoroastrian Influences on the Buddhist Concept of the 6 Paths. Zoroastrianism's Founder basically grew up in a priestly family of a society that followed an Iranian Religion that was very similar to Northern Vedic Religions, which was one of the main foundations for Hinduism and I think for Buddhism as well. Just like Hindus and Buddhists have a concept of Devas and Asura, Zoroastrianism has the concept of Daeva and Ahura, where Ahura means lord and Ahura Mazda is the wise lord, and Daeva are seen as demons or at least false gods. Obviously, this is the exact opposite of the Upper Realms. Zoroastrianism has a deep concept of heaven and hell. So I'm curious how much of that Zoroastrian Influence seeped it's way into Buddhism. After all, Siddhartha Gautama would have lived around the time of the rise of the Persian Empire

@@tommynobaka Yeah. There's been a bunch of academic study which has shown that the original texts of Mazda worship that later became Zoroastrian are actually not Vedic at all, and their point of origin is totally separate. However, the religion changed over time as it came more into contact with others, as you say--for example, when it started to be threatened by Christianity, the cosmology developed to have a more vivid and structured depiction of the afterlife, sort of as a response to the "arguments" put forward by that faith.

Don’t forget the final path. Rather outer path. I guess it’s a reference to the Buddha who attained enlightenment and yeeted off from the cycle of death and rebirth. Which explains which he can resurrect people.

Oddly enough, the abilites of Jigokudo/Naraka Path is probably one of the pretty useful one, since it can be used to revive someone, like your ally or something. Or sacrifice your own life to revive another.

I'd just like to be THAT weeaboo and point out that the Six Paths are also prevalent in Bleach: Jigokudo = Hell -> ghouls / demons like what Szayel becomes. Gakido = Hueco Mundo -> Hollows like Ulquiorra. Chikushodo = Beast Realm -> Beast-like beings like Sajin and his grandfather. Ashurado = Wandenreich -> Quincies like Yhwach. Nindo = World of the Living. Tendo = Soul Society / Royal Society -> Shinigami, Nobles, etc.

Wait, szael was hollow as well. And what about Grimmjaw???
@MizzMDN11
@MizzMDN11 2 жыл бұрын
@@YuYu-qs8mz Well yeah Szayel was a Hollow, but just like Linfamy said, none of the six paths are eternal. After Szayel died as a Hollow he was reincarnated into Hell. And not quite sure what you're asking as far as Grimmjow goes.. I mean, he's a Hollow. Not much else to say.

So much explained and thanks for it, Lin. The pulling your soul out thing is a nod to his-Masashi Kishimoto's- publisher, who loves the quantity of the work far more than its quality. Personally, I'm a lot more like Sorachi Hideaki; "I'm just a monkey in a tree, why must I leave?"

This could become very helpful, I played a lot with a mixture of biblical, Japanese, Persian, norse and urban fantasy in the first volume of my trilogy, now that I'm planning the second volume I needed a place to put the son and send the father to go save him and the 9 realms around igdrasil or seven stages of Dante's inferno are just used too often... I was looking for a new level design... I like this...

I knew Naruto was absolutely jam-packed with Buddhist references and was very Japanese in its identity, but it's only years after mostly grew out of it that I've realized how deep it goes. Same is true for Bleach, but I actually like it even more as a 20-something than I did as a freshman in college.
