I have had two total hip replacements. One in February 2021...went home the next morning and had the typical PT. I was walking quickly but still had groin pain for about a month...one day it disappeared and all was good. I just had my 2nd hip done just two months ago. Had it with the same surgeon but thos time in the surgi center. My arrival time was at 6am went right in and got prepped procedure started at 7am and by 8:30 I was getting ready for my PT so I could be released to go home. It was a great experience and I walked unaided two days later...I went to PT for two weeks and the hip is great...recovered quickly. I am 71.5 years old and both hips are feeling good. They went in the front way for both hips.... make sure you find a good orthopedic doctor who's specialty is hips and reviews that show it.

Wow! I had my hip replaced two years ago and have been dealing with bursitis and weakness since about three months post-op. I just did the chair test and I have no strength to stand up on one leg on my replacement side. I am going to to also pay attention to the knee locking while standing. I just noticed I also do this. Great vid.

I blacked out on the pavement not far from my home and ended up with a fractured hip. On top of having fibro, scoliosis and some arthritis, I am not doing too well after having a hip replacement. I was given physiotherapy but it didn't address the other things that are wrong so keep pulling muscles. I carry on trying to move the best way I can

My mum still has terrible hip pain even after a total hip replacement. Years ago she shattered that leg just above the ankle. The drs repared it enough for her to keep her foot but she never walked the same again. Plus she has Scoliosis. It was really a matter of time before her hip and knee went out. Poor mum.

Had a total hip replacement four years ago, previous to that I was already diagnosed with osteoarthritis at 25 due to a broken foot on same side. I need to have a Sacral Joint fusion as well as back surgery. If some of the Drs had listened about the history.. I would not be here NOW!

This is a perfect description of my problem. I knew after my hip replacement we needed to address the systemic imbalance. However, the exercises they give only address the operated leg! As a result, I am in pain five weeks later, though two weeks after I had little pain. I knew I needed help realigning my body. I was a very active person, a water aerobics instructor and I can't get in the water which is so beneficial. Still waiting for the okay for that therapy. Had it been addressed earlier, I probably wouldn't be in such pain. You have given me hope

I agree with you. Our medical system is full of specialists and no one is looking at our whole bodies. Everything is connected. Some surgeons say it is up to you when you want total hip replacement. But I disagree because waiting too long can cause more problems that may not be resolved with the surgery. I know my gait changed and I have to consciously think about it and lift my right leg (new hip side) equal to the left instead of dragging it behind. Good luck with your overall recovery.

I’m 76 and one of the lucky ones with no health problems and no arthritis in my joints. I’ve always felt like I could do anything. Three months ago while on a walk, I was waiting for a car to back out of a garage. Once it was safe to walk again as I took my first step (new concrete sidewalk) the front of my left shoe (sketchers) stuck to the sidewalk, threw me off balance with my forward movement and my right hip bounced twice before landing the third time. It shattered the ball of my femur but not the socket. I had a partial hip replacement, spent 2 weeks in the hospital/rehab hospital and had at-home P.T. twice a week and then once a week until Medicare stopped coverage after last week. I have faithfully done all the exercises twice per day without skipping any, added more as we went along and am now also riding a stationary bike 10 minutes, too. Today when I walked around a grocery store my hip was not doing great and once I got home it felt as bad as it did the first week after surgery. I try not to feel discouraged but I thought by now I would be doing better than I am. I still have a lot of trouble walking up stairs normally because my right leg is so weak. The worst part is that I was in another state when I took the fall so I haven’t seen the surgeon since a few minutes before surgery last November 21st. Now I am stuck in my home town with an orthopedic physician’s assistant. She did not recognize the device that my surgeon inserted and she told me they use something completely different here. I also had a lateral incision that was 10” long whereas most people commenting on KZfaq had small anterior or posterior incisions. I am beginning to feel that this is going to be my life from now on. Depressing.

4 years after total hip replacement. Pain has increased to a point where I have to pull myself up to walk up and down steps. PT, Water therapy, dry needling, guided injections, last week discussion of "tenjet" told probably would not help. I am about to give up. Interesting point about locking knees. I guess I will try working on that and see if it helps.

Had total left hip replacement 2 weeks ago finally. My quad was in bad shape before the surgery due to limping for almost a solid year. It’s will take some time for the muscles to remember what they’re used for. Everybody is different in terms of a recovery time.

No wonder my glutes and quads are overdeveloped and exhausted. I can't lock my knees when I stand because they are so hypermobil that I would look like I had chicken knees if I did. 😅 Seriously though, my muscles don't get that chance to rest. I do have serious hip, knee, ankle and back pain. I'm waiting to hear back from my spine specialist about the MRIs taken of my spine. And I go in this week for hip x-rays. I have Scoliosis too. I knnow it's all connected. I just don't know how to fix it

Had hip replacement surgery 3 years ago, my hip socket was worn out.I was born with a bad hip. The muscles on the top of my hip are so tight that they cause pain. I have seen number of doctors, done therapy and even done massage therapy. Can’t get those muscles to loosen up! Pain down into my ankle and foot. All of this pain on the right side that is also where my replacement is. No doctors can or want to help. So frustrating.

I'd look into the back and the spine as sometimes the nerves that run through the spine can tighten muscle or send pain down your foot

You can get a lift for the shorter leg I believe.
@buckschneider7973
@buckschneider7973 Жыл бұрын
So imo I don't think your leg got shorter. What may have happened is the ball of your femur bone may have been inserted too deep into hip bone. There may be several reasons for this. First this may have been necessary to properly create stability of your entire leg. Or there might have been a connection issue which may require to insert deeper than necessary. Either way shifting your hip to where u feel is shorter would help

Why is it when we go to the doctor they don’t know this stuff and tell you to pick one problem at a time? 2007 I had left total hip replacement but it left me one leg shorter, I was told to wear a lift for a short time but then get rid of it so I don’t get dependent on it. 2-3 years later had sciatic problem really bad they did surgery to open the area up to let the nerve flow more freely. I walked with a gait, not sure when it started but I’m guessing somewhere within this time frame. Two years ago 2021, I started having knee pain , the gait was getting worse. About a year ago doctors sent me to therapy, X-rays and MRI, more therapy. Told me I needed the right hip replaced osteoarthritis was really bad and that was causing the gait, knee pain and everything else. I had the operation 3 weeks ago, hips are even now but I’m having a lot of pain in glute area, knee pain still there though not as bad, and doing stretches and exercises as much as possible. I hope to go to outside therapy soon and they can help fix this pain problem. I don’t think I can live like I am right now, can’t walk real good with a walker and I need to be OK to take care and assist my 103 year old mom. I also feel either neuropathy or sciatic in the heel of my foot. Maybe it’s too soon to feel real good yet but this seems different and longer than the last operation. I am older and heavier too. Can’t wait and wishing to be normal again.

@justsomeguy5490
@justsomeguy5490 Жыл бұрын
Sure, you can have postural issues (scoliosis / pelvis) or muscle imbalances that still exist after a THA. Maybe the "arthritis" was NOT the cause of your original pain, and you didn't actually need a THA at all ! On the other hand, perhaps the surgeon did a lousy job and mis-positioned the implant - most commonly the acetabular cup. If things are not in the correct position, every time you use your muscles they get agitated or impinged. It is nearly impossible to prove that the implant is "off", or to get it corrected. At least within Kaiser Permanente of Denver area. Every physician will just make up theories about why it is your fault - not doing enough PT, or doing too much, or it's all in your mind, or "maybe it will get better in time". In my case there were clear signs of dysfunction immediately in the days & weeks after surgery (couldn't do leg lifts or clamshells due to weakness and pain, leg is turned out, walking feels like I fall towards repaired hip with each step) and no one believed me (and excluded my concerns from their "visit notes"). Since then, no other orthopedist will consider that the surgeon could have been less than perfect, or will do a proper analysis or imaging.
