Link Airways Fly Corporate Fairchild Swearingen Metro 23 Narrabri to Sydney Flight Review

I'm now in Narrabri, northern NSW, I'm about to fly Link Airways, formerly known as Fly Corporate to Sydney. The aircraft today is a Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner, also known as the flying pencil, this is a very unique aircraft and I've wanted to fly on this plane one day. How is my experience on this aircraft? Let's find out in the video!

A few things: Some nervous fliers actually like the metro because you can see what the pilots are doing. There are a lot of "small plane" that comments though. I've never heard of the windows being larger but we can go up to 25,000ft in the Metro 23 and the older Metro 3 can go to 31,000ft due to FAR25 regulations coming into place. Usually we do let passengers know to grab a snack and drink when boarding but sometimes it may slip our mind or we get distracted. Also, it was RWY16R at YSSY. Glad you liked the flight though. Avgeeks usually do.

This is a lovely perspective on the metros. They're nice aircraft, and it's really wonderful to see others specifically seeking them out for the experience. Also, the overhead light probably wasn't working simply because the pilots probably hadn't turned the overhead lights on

Best seat in the house (besides the cockpit!) full house too. Fab views inflight and of the harbour, I love the open cockpit,great to really experience the touchdown of arrival with all these different views.thanks so much for sharing 👍

Interesting that you got separate flights to Moree and from Narrabri and caught the train between the two. I've done that once for fun except it was Armidale and Tamworth.

Good ol’ Uniform! Spent many hours plying the sky in this aircraft flying night freight between Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. They were always kept in such good condition (despite its age) but could have done with an autopilot for the really long legs - if you thought your row 2 seat was uncomfortable Rory, you should try the “office” for 3 or so hours (SY-AD) ☹️... Like the videos, keep ‘em coming and happy travels 👍

Finally! The maintenance staff get some love! We work very hard to keep the Metros flying, and despite the amount of attention they take, I still love them.

Some years ago when I flew from Darwin to Dili on an Air North Metroliner we found our snacks already placed on our seats. We only had to select our bottled drink at the boarding steps. Perhaps Link might consider the same service.

I dont know why but for me the metro has a feeling of infinite power. Its just feels like its going somewhere. Much more so than say a Saab 340 or a beech 1900.

Another great review as always! I am hoping to also catch a Metro 23 and a SAAB 340 this year. Looks like a cool little plane, and the snack situation is a good compromise... but now I also know not to make the same mistake. Have you had the chance to fly on a Jet stream 32 with FlyPelican yet? Its one I can highly recommend if you haven't done so already. Caught one from Newcastle to Sydney last year and it was quite a unique experience

Metro 23, ah I loved them when REX flew them, they had the most comfortable lambs wool seat covers! I don’t know if link let you but under REX you could ask the pilots put your larger hand carry that didn’t fit in the nose compartment.

@@RoryDing The Boeing 757-300 or A340-600 are usually called the "pencil", but I'm sure other long aircraft are called "pencil" too.

Hi it’s $169 one way I don’t remember but I think it was like 70% filled? They were gonna move me to the rows at the back because of the balancing, if the flight was full they didn’t have to move me
