"Featuring: Shaft" may be the most intensionally funny title I've ever heard. Moore definitely meant it that way.

From what I can gather, Alan Moore did do a story featuring Santa Claus in one of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen books. Apparently he's depicted as a shaman who dresses up in reindeer skin and his "elves" ended up murdering a few Coca-Cola representatives when they tried to buy the rights to his image.

"Mr. Scratch" is a nickname for the devil. It's used in "The Devil and Daniel Webster," among other stories. So, that line is just a folklore reference.

We're supposed to be spreading Christmas cheer, but comics like this only inspire Christmas jeers.

Professor Night is basically a fusion of Doctor Mid-Nite and Batman, with Twilight being Robin.

You know, the "new Youngblood team" was actually pretty good as an intro story to a new team. Shaft has an actual personality beyond "grimaces and spouts one-liners", characters have backgrounds and pasts beyond "mysterious" there's some humour and an attempt to set up some team dynamics with a group that largely can't stand each other. Of course, it was completely botched in short order, but I think there was real potential there.

UN: Soviet Union? I thought you guys broke up a while ago. Youngblood: Yes, that's what we wanted you to think. AHAHAHAHA!

Alan Moore DID say, in his "On Comics" writing guide, that it was important to write a backstory for every single character. Even minor ones, and even if it never really factored into the story, because it would ensure that the writer would think about why or how they're behaving the way they are. Nice to see he stuck with that mentality even when writing on something called "AWESOME COMICS." Also the live-action Tick (the Patrick Warburton one) had a running joke about someone with the last name Waxman being a super-villain in one episode, and anything that reminds me of that gone-too-soon show is alright in MY book.

Sigh I would be happy that it's the month of Christmas but then I remember it's still the year 2020. Well at least we have these fun comic reviews to look forward to.

While on Liefeld's Wikipedia article, I came across this quote "Liefeld's friend, Image Comics partner, and The Walking Dead creator, Robert Kirkman, defends Liefeld, saying, "Every figure that Rob draws has a certain energy to it, a certain excitement. Every character Rob drew had seven knives and six guns and shoulder pads and pouches and belts and straps and ammunition. It was an aesthetic that as a kid absolutely blew me away. I idolized the guy...Everything he draws is interesting, whether it's accurate or not. A lot of people look at the way Rob draws the human body and they say, 'That's wrong in my eyes.' I want some of what this guy is smoking because it's good stuff.

It does my heart good to see Snowflame making snow angels in the opening. So wholesome.

I remember liking what Alan Moore did with both Supreme and the awesome comics stuff, interesting deconstruction, and you're right most of his stuff just has this weight to it. That teenage girl comment was funnier when I was 17 though...
