I have to give Raul Julia mad respect after hearing the back story of his performance as Bison

One of the biggest losses to cinema is that Raul Julia will never get to be DOCTOR DOOM.

For you, the day Linkara reviewed your comic was the most important day of your career. But for him, it was Monday. Sometimes Tuesday. Occasionally Wednesday. It depends on the schedule.

Raul Julia's portrayal of M. Bison reminds of Vernon Wells' portrayal of Ransic in Time Force. Their kids were fans of that particular franchise, and each embraced the fun and campiness of the role.

You chose this comic JUST so you could do Raul Julia, didn't you? I love it. lol

For me, Raul Julia's performance as M. Bison is a solid contender for outright being one of the best villain performances in *any* movie. He is clearly having the time of his goddamn life playing the character and he is such a delightful *bastard* that feels hard to find an equal to.

The great thing about watching Raul Julia is he always seemed to be having fun. Another movie where that comes across is in Moon Over Parador, where he co-starred with Richard Dreyfus. I remember when Julia's wife accepted an award after his death. She said that he always wanted to say, "I want to thank MYSELF!!" , which just sounded some much like hes sense of humor.

The day the Street Fighter comic book adaptation was posted on Atop the Fourth Wall was the great day of my life. But for Linkara, it was Wednesday.

The story behind the movie is just as crazy as the movie itself. I can't type it all out here, but some of the insanity involves Van Damme being coked out of his mind, Kylie Minogue being hired basically at the last minute, the Thailand government mistaking the production as a military coup and the film getting cut down from Rated R to G and then back to PG-13, just to name a few. Look it up for yourselves.

Finally, a chance to use the "Of course!" meme on its very own adaptation!

For those who want the context to be properly offended by this movie's portrayal of the characters, here's how the characters actually are in the game: Ryu (correctly pronounced as one syllable with an elongated "U" sound): A consummate warrior dedicated to the never-ending goal of becoming the greatest fighter. Ken: Trained with Ryu, but found his source of strength in his girlfriend (later wife), Eliza. E. Honda: A hot-headed Sumo wrestler who wants to prove Sumo as the greatest form of battle. Chun-Li: A former(?) Inerpol officer trying to take down the criminal organization, Shadaloo, to avenge her father. Struggles with whether she wants to be a badass warrior or a normal girl. Blanka: A jungle dwelling wild man who has no relation to Guile's friend. His superhuman abilities came from adapting to life in the Amazon. Zangief (correctly pronounced "Zan-Gee-Ef"): A simple but not stupid wrestler whose two biggest loves are his country and his job. Was never a bad guy despite what American-made Street Fighter media says. Guile: An American Air Force Pilot who seeks vengeance for the death of his friend Charlie Nash. His wife and Ken's wife are sisters. Dhalsim: A yoga practicing monk at odds with pacifist nature and his desire to rid the world of evil. Cammy: An amnesiac former member of Shadaloo, now a member of British Secret Intelligence. Dee Jay: A charismatic and fun loving kickboxer who is also a bestselling musician. Balrog (actual name Mike Bison): An amoral, vicious boxer motivated almost exclusively by money and vice. Vega (actual name Balrog): A narcissistic assassin who believes beauty is strength. Sagat: the last boss of the first Street Fighter game. Seeks revenge against Ryu for giving him the scar on his chest and his first ever loss. M. Bison (actual name Vega): Head of the criminal organization Shadaloo. Obsessed with ruling the world, mastering Psycho Power (the energy that powers his fighting style), and finding ways to live forever.

I need to rewatch this movie. M. Bison's actor is hands done the best part of that. Sad he passed after this movie.

I just wish there had been a book adaptation of the comic that was then adapted into a Broadway play just to go deeper into the adaptation of an adaptation hole.

First! Now for something actually important, if Raul Julia were still alive, which Marvel character do you think he'd be cast as? My money's on Doctor DOOM, for obvious reasons.

Oof... seeing the Nostalgia Critic and Spoony. Brings back memories. And sadness. I do hope Spoony is okay, and eventually gets whatever act he has together, and I do hope that Doug learned from his past mistakes and does better for his workers in the future. And I am glad that, throughout all of this horsecrap, Linkara has done pretty well and has been a consistently positive person towards the communities he inhabits. But enough of the sad sack past, this is a time for CORNY GOODNESS!

Guile's speech is no "The Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday". It's not even an "I am the Senate!", really.

"Where the hell did he *get* that?" In the movie, it's clearer that he's (still, somehow) managed to create a new claw out of... things he apparently got his hands on that were not his original blades. I have another thought on why they'd cut that early scene with Chun-Li, where though it becomes apparent throughout the movie that she's not "just" a reporter, it's still not something we've seen before late into the *movie* where it turns out, as you said, she can "kick ass".

Sho-ryu-ken; means Rising Dragon Fist. Ken is a name that works in english AND japanese, like Naomi or Karen or Jou

Since you ask about the Shoryuken, in Japanese it translates to rising dragon fist. And the parts similarly translate as character names. So yes, Ryu is Dragon, and Ken is Fist, and those are thematically appropriate. (However, in Japanese ALL names mean something, so that in and of itself isn't special. Like "Sakura" means "Cherry Blossom" for instance... but they're actual proper names so they don't translate)

Guile is only important to Street Fighter II and IV. - Ryu and Ken are life-long friends and training partners. Not arms smugglers and conmen. - Dee Jay and Zangief are good guys. Balrog is a bad guy. - Chun-Li is an Interpol agent, not a news journalist (though you could say that she was merely posing as a journalist here... But that doesn't explain why she's chilling with Honda and Balrog) - Cammy is a member of MI-6. - Blanka and Charlie Nash are two completely separate characters. They are selectable characters in both Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Street Fighter V.

"LITTLE BUDDIES!" it's adorably HILARIOUS 🤣

Not sure why Linkara thinks that imposing Martial Law and restricted the press in a WAR ZONE is somehow a bad thing. Yes, Guile was being a bit of a jerk about it, but you can't just let people- including the press- run around when spies, assassins and enemy combatants are everywhere, not to mention they might accidentally give away information or images that the Allies don't want Bison to know. It's really pretty standard for that sort of situation.

i actually loved this movie when i was younger, mostly legit, but now that im more aware, i do like it as a guilty pleasure, its stupid but id be lying if i didn't laugh at it, especially at the "Quick! Change The Channel!" part

Raul Julia was the best part of the movie and no one else can recreate his awesomness.

This is my favorite bad movie. I genuinelyenjoy watching it. Even recently, figuring i'd think it was terrible, I ended up still just enjoying it. Like Adam West Batman, just fun.

I don't care. I enjoyed Street Fighter the Movie. It was cheesy and it was just good. Raul Julia delivered as M. Bison. For better or for worse. Vaya Con Dios Raul.

Imagine if Rufus was a character when this came out. They could have gotten Chris Farley.

Zangief is a really dedicated man if he was working for a cause he thought was right (he didn't knew it wasn't) and he did it for free (he didn't knew he could get payment).

Raul Bison was the best part of the movie, and you have to admit, for the old days of Street Fighter 2, he looked the part (as did Zangief). If the movie was better done and kept Raul Julia it still would have worked. I mean back in SF2 all we knew was Bison was evil and whatnot, so giving him this insane personality worked before later games would make him darker, get buffer and get that huge Colgate Smile. Raul was just awesome and I like the idea of a bad guy so insane he legit sees himself as the good guy and is confused as why all these people are trying to stop him.

As a long time Street Fighter fan I have to say, good review. You even got the names of their attacks correct, kudos.

No mention of Dee Jay's ridiculous Gerald Johanssen hair? I mean, his hairstyle in the movie was silly, but the comic takes it to Marge Simpson levels.

Fun Fact Linkara, Street Fighter: The Movie was the final performance for Raul Julia before passing away.

im glad im not the only one that found the street fighter movie fun and all in all a good time, I watched it on my birthday years back on tv cuz it happened to be on and I do not regret watching it.

I think Guile meant that by robbing from criminals who prey on the poor they are themselves effectively stealing from the poor- after all, that's where the criminals make the money that Rya and Ken swindle from them. If I con a thief out of his stolen money, it's still stolen money that I'm taking for myself.

The Catwoman movie wasn't quite as bad as I was expecting, but I still don't envy having to review an adaptation of it.

This movie is hilarious these days. If it was still the 90s where video game movies were still new, you can argue that it was the worst video game movie, but considering how they keep getting worse instead of better, this movie is a joy.

I think there needs to be another comic of this movie but with artists to have worked for the games so they look like their in-game versions. Like the Real Ghost Busters in Ghost Busters 2 comic Linkara reviewed a few years ago.
