Lyrics:
This is not the end, this is not the beginning
Just a voice like a riot, rocking every revision
But you listen to the tone and the violent rhythm
And though the words sound steady, something empty's within them
We say yeah, with fists flying up in the air
Like we're holding onto something that's invisible there
'Cause we're living at the mercy of the pain and the fear
Until we dead it, forget it, let it all disappear
Waiting for the end to come
Wishing I had strength to stand
This is not what I had planned
It's out of my control
Flying at the speed of light
Thoughts were spinning in my head
So many things were left unsaid
It's hard to let you go
I know what it takes to move on
I know how it feels to lie
All I want to do is trade this life for something new
Holding on to what I haven't got
Sitting in an empty room
Trying to forget the past
This was never meant to last
I wish it wasn't so
I know what it takes to move on
I know how it feels to lie
All I want to do is trade this life for something new
Holding on to what I haven't got
What was left when that fire was gone?
I thought it felt right, but that right was wrong
All caught up in the eye of the storm
And trying to figure out what it's like moving on
And I don't even know what kind of things I said
My mouth kept moving and my mind went dead
So, I'm picking up the pieces now, where to begin
The hardest part of ending is starting again
All I want to do is trade this life for something new
Holding on to what I haven't got
This is not the end, this is not the beginning
Just a voice like a riot, rocking every revision
I'm holding on to what I haven't got
But you listen to the tone and the violent rhythm
Though the words sound steady
Something empty's within them
We say yeah, with fists flying up in the air
Like we're holding onto something that's invisible there
Holding on to what I haven't got
'Cause we're living at the mercy of the pain and the fear
Until we get it, forget it, let it all disappear

@@erbmonsodillepa403 You know, I agree with most of what you said, but to me, it also actually IS a substitute for therapy and medication. I've been on all sorts of meds for years to no avail, therapy sessions by the truckloads, and they just won't work for me. Music, and especially Linkin Park, doesn't _cure_ depression, but it makes it all the more bearable.

Dreadful Maiden I know we don't know each other, but I'm glad you're still here. Depression may be different for each person, but none of us are alone in the fight. No matter what our minds spew at us in the worst times, remember that we're strong and have been through the dark times before and survived. Chester fought a good fight, and he's helped so many others along the way. May you and anyone else who is reading this keep the hope alive, because that's the light that can guide you. Much love to you.

@@beezkneez6373 that's horrible. I'm so sorry you've had to endure that. It feels weird knowing my mom failed spectacularly as a parent, that I shouldn't have wanted her in my life but still finding a way to make it work. We had a much better relationship as adults. I think I felt okay with it because she was sober (for thr most part) and being an adult I wasn't dependent on her for my safety and care so if it went bad I was still going to be safe and cared for. There were things I wanted to confront her about, some of which she brought up, but I just glossed over it because I knew nothing could fix it and there was no point in making a dying woman cry. The only way I've found to be a functioning person is to be very forward looking. If I spend to much time thinking about the past, I start living there again and I stop being a functioning person. Not ideal, but I'm not unhappy.

I dislike how today's music's story or message is just sex drugs and violence. I really appreciate it when a band and or singer doesn't sing about that. Unfortunately in today's age all that is what people (mainly youth) gravitate towards. Then again that's mainstream music. I find it funny how people say Rock is "Ugly Music" when rock actually talks about fighting personal demons, overcoming obstacles in life, what's going on in the world today and so much more. People tend to confuse Rock with like Death Metal. Nothing wrong with that genera at all. It's just they here this screamo and automatically think that's all the bands that fall under the Rock Umbrella

It's crazy that when I was at the worse stage of my life, suicidal and depressed, this was one of the few songs I would derive comfort from. I even wanted to get a tattoo of the phrase "this is not the end, this is not the beginning." "This is not the end (...)" to remind me that the world hadn't just suddenly stopped for me. That life was going to keep going, and that one day, I would realize that that point in my life was not the end. The other part, "(...)this is not the beginning", to remind me that I had felt pain before, that I wasn't new at this, and therefore, I would handle it, I could fight this. So, "This is not the end, this is not the beginning" comforted me, even just for a few seconds, because it told me that this was not the end of my life, but just the middle. Maybe Chester knew about the impact his music had on others, maybe he didn't. Regardless, depression is a horrible, horrible, and insidious monster. If it gets to the point of actual suicide, you know that pain was immense, more immense than we'd like to know. Feeling suicidal is like running out of oxygen in an empty room, and desperately looking for a way out so that you can breathe. Except that you have lost all hope that there is one, and you just want to end the pain, and you feel like your only way out is the worse way out. I wish he hadn't gone this way. I wish that nobody had to go this way. And anyone watching the news now, who is feeling suicidal, I hope you try to endure the pain just a bit longer, because even if you cant imagine one way out now (that doesn't end your life), I promise you there IS one. I waited a bit longer, and I found my will to live once again. Hope was returned to me. Rest in peace, Chester.

This is not the end This is not the beginning, Just a voice like a riot Rocking every revision But you listen to the tone And the violent rhythm And though the words sound steady Something empty's within 'em We say Yeah! With fists flying up in the air Like we're holding onto something That's invisible there, 'Cause we're living at the mercy of The pain and the fear Until we get, forget it, Let it all disappear. Waiting for the end to come Wishing I had strength to stand This is not what I had planned It's out of my control Flying at the speed of light Thoughts we're spinning in my head So many things were left unsaid It's hard to let you go I know what it takes to move on, I know how it feels to lie, All I wanna do Is trade this life for something new Holding on to what I haven't got Sitting in an empty room Trying to forget the past This was never meant to last, I wish it wasn't so I know what it takes to move on, I know how it feels to lie, All I wanna do Is trade this life for something new Holding on to what I haven't got Yeah, yeah What was left when that fire was gone? I thought it felt right but that right was wrong All caught up in the eye of the storm And trying to figure out what it's like moving on And I don't even know what kind of things I've said My mouth kept moving and my mind went dead So, picking up the pieces, now where to begin? The hardest part of ending is starting again! All I wanna do Is trade this life for something new Holding on to what I haven't got This is not the end This is not the beginning, Just a voice like a riot Rocking every revision But you listen to the tone And the violent rhythm Though the words sound steady Something empty's within 'em (Holding on to what I haven't got) We say Yeah! With fists flying up in the air Like we're holding onto something That's invisible there, 'Cause we're living at the mercy of The pain and the fear Until we get it, forget it, Let it all disappear (Holding on to what I haven't got!)

"The hardest part of ending is starting again." -Linkin Park I think I just found my senior quote. Edit (June 19, 2020): Well, it's been one heck of a journey, but as of today, I am an official high school graduate. I have to say that I never expected my graduation to happen amidst a pandemic, but here we are. That said, there are just somethings you never expect would ever happen. Back in 2017, for instance, I was absolutely shocked by the news of Chester Bennington's death. I believe I speak for every fan here when I say that Bennington was the last person I would expect to have been as deeply troubled as he was that day. And how ironic that, for a man that has helped to save so many people from their own troubles, it was actually him that was the most in pain. Life can be very cruel sometimes, and it happened in one of the most unexpected ways imaginable. But I'm not here to reminisce over an idol's death. I am here today to thank Bennington, Mike Shinoda, and the rest of Linkin Park for their impact on a single life. Because Linkin Park's music is simply outstanding. I began listening to LP sometime during the 3rd grade, a little after A Thousand Suns was released, and from then on, I listened to their entire discography (from Hybrid Theory to Reanimation, to The Hunting Party) right into my high school years. Because even though tastes, values, and circumstances change year to year, there was always something about LP's sound that made their music feel ageless and consistently relevant. And this sound always inspired me to improve myself, to try new things and experiment, to take big steps and leaps with courage and passion; to be better today than I was yesterday, even now, amidst a pandemic. What I'm saying then is that Linkin Park helped shape me into the man I am today: a mature, resilient, and optimistic adult, with his entire life ahead of him. Somethings don't last forever, and people do change over time, for better or for worse. Linkin Park is a band that at the very least changed the life of a single soul, and made him better than he was 4 years ago. Thank you, Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Dave Farrell, Joe Hahn, Rob Bourdon, and Chester Bennington for two decades of incredible songwriting. Thank You.

Trade this life to something new is spiritually strong for a person to say.. Idk maybe he s already have everything in this world he wanted.. Till he dont know what it takes to move on, cuz he already got it all means he already reach the edge spiritually This is not the end or begining means he s gambling with his decision and its out of his control Hold on to God if it be sin or next step to this something new If my writing its true, then this is his goodbye song

Yeah Yo This is not the end, this is not the beginning Just a voice like a riot rocking every revision But you listen to the tone and the violent rhythm And though the words sound steady, something's empty within 'em We say, yeah, with fists flying up in the air Like we're holding onto something that's invisible there 'Cause we're living at the mercy of the pain and fear Until we dead it, forget it, let it all disappear Waiting for the end to come Wishing I had strength to stand This is not what I had planned It's out of my control Flying at the speed of light Thoughts were spinning in my head So many things were left unsaid It's hard to let you go I know what it takes to move on (Oh) I know how it feels to lie (Oh) all I wanna do is trade this life for something new (Oh) holding on to what I haven't got Sitting in an empty room Trying to forget the past This was never meant to last I wish it wasn't so I know what it takes to move on (Oh) I know how it feels to lie (Oh) all I wanna do is trade this life for something new (Oh) holding on to what I haven't got Yo, yo What was left when that fire was gone? I thought it felt right, but that right was wrong All caught up in the eye of the storm And trying to figure out what it's like moving on And I don't even know what kind of things I've said My mouth kept moving, and my mind went dead So, I'm picking up the pieces now where to begin The hardest part of ending is starting again All I wanna do is trade this life for something new Holding on to what I haven't got This is not the end, this is not the beginning Just a voice like a riot rocking every revision But you listen to the tone and the violent rhythm Though the words sound steady, something empty's within them We say, yeah, with fists flying up in the air Like we're holding onto something that's invisible there 'Cause we're living at the mercy of the pain and the fear Until we get it, forget it, let it all disappear

I was miserable, alone, devastated that I left because of him and his abusive bullshit. I remember listening to 'In The End' and 'Breaking The Habit' over and over again on my way back. Chester's first verse completely tore me apart and I cried. It hurts knowing that he's gone now, a piece of my childhood and angsty teen years was emotionally bandaged by Chester's beautiful voice.....now gone.

I never considered myself a devoted fan of Linkin Park, but I was still sad to hear of Chester Bennington's passing. His vocal range was absolutely incredible, and this song is solid proof of that. It really feels like he's still alive when he hits that high note at 3:36.

Fucking sucks how someone who vents their suicidal thoughts into their music can't get through it no matter how much support they get. Mental health is a huge issue and needs to be treated seriously.

G Swish, Chesterfield wouldn't have committed suicide on his best friend's birthday. He and Chris Cornell were killed for trying to expose the child sex trafficking, and pedophilia rings which run rampant throughout the music industry & Hollywood.

Linkin Park was one of the best rock bands. They were so creative and talented. I miss them and what a great loss that Chester Bennington is gone. He is so talented with an amazing voice and vocals. One of the best voices in rock. Mike Shinoda is also talented at what he does. Linkin Park will always be one of my favorite music artists. Their songs never get old. Brandon Boyd from Incubus and Steve Perry from Journey also have one of the best vocals and voices in rock. Blink 182 and Incubus were also some of the best rock bands. They are so creatively talented. We need good talented artists and good music back asap.

Im writing this today on Chester's death. I could see that this song best describes Chester's depresssion. Just listen to the lyrics you would see. He had been sexually abuse as a child, parents is divorce, escape the pain through drugs and alcohol. Now you try to understand the lyrics the parts where his the one singing. ALL I WANNA DO IS TRADE THIS LIFE FOR SOMETHING NEW (SOMETHIN HE WANNA CHANGE THAT HAPPENED IN HIS LIFE). We cannot blame the guy for killing himself and leaving 6 children and his wife. Depression is hard, people who never went through it judge it so easily. Poor guy all his depression turned into this wonderful art were listening now! Thank you Chester .. RIP!

This song just really hits so hard and so deep. I can't help but think of Chester. How in my mind maybe he never truly let go of the past. I don't know what he thought about. But it breaks my heart. I myself am going through one of the hardest times of my life, and I've thought about just giving up. Sometimes, the thought of no longer living seems easier and more bearable than what life really is for me... but when I hear linkin parks songs idk, it gives me strength and touches something in me I forget I have.. thank you, Chester and linkin park. At times, you have saved me when no one else would. Truly one of a kind.
