I never buy whisky based on color. I buy whisky based on tastings and reviews by honest & knowledgeable people... Cheers Jason. I must try that Aberlour..!!!

I still want to try that even though you gave it a C+ lol. Adelphi releases some very dark sherry bottlings, but they are worth the hype imo. I've never had a bad one. Edradour has also been putting out some very dark bottlings recently from Van Wees The Ultimate and the SV bottlings too. Edradour Cask 391 is the darkest bottle I have. Old Perth 13yr from Morrison and MacKay was a dark one too.....and of course some of the 1996 and older Glendro single casks are also very dark. Cheers Jason!

Interesting, Jason....yep that damned eternal color question....I wonder if that LINKWOOD isn't an old PX Sherry casks matured...the sirupy & sweet side you describe makes me think of it....Love the ABERLOUR A'Bunadh, but like I said in my comparison video (batch 46 vs 56) I have the impression that more recent batches (don't know that one though) are younger & more agressive alcohol wise...To answer your question, not sure I bought any whisky only by the color, but some probably, but I often had them blind first ! (Did color influenced my tasting ? don't know, maybe ?) , Cheers & keep up the good work !

Thanks Greg! I have only tried the ABERLOUR A'Bunadh after batch 58

If I had to guess I'd say they used arrope to "season" this cask.

Arrope is a form of grape concentrate typically produced in Spain. Often derived from grape varieties such as Pedro Ximénez, it is made by boiling unfermented grape juice until the volume is reduced by at least 50%, and its viscosity reduced to a syrup. The final product is a thick liquid with cooked caramel flavours, and its use is frequent as an additive for dark, sweet wines such as sweet styles of sherry, Malaga, and Marsala. Thanks I just learned something new

Have you tried those 10 Year 2019/2020 SV Edradour’s that are quite dark? I was able to get two bottles from cask 23 and 😯 is it good. Thanks again for yours analysis, Jason.
