A long time ago , a few of us wrote to Linn , they invited us to their new factory , i took a couple of my favourite L/P s with me, they had told us that we would be invited to the Cottage that had all their brilliant musical equipment , Unfortunately for us our trip coincided with a group of German Hi Fi journalists who had come over , I was disappointed , but the Linn rep made up for it with a walk around the assembly bays . The people could not have been more friendlier if they tried . Thank you Linn for a magical trip .

I first heard about Linn back in the early 80's when my interest in audio was forming as a kid. Two experiences really kicked off my love of audio, hearing a classic Quad 22 / 2 /ESL system and the Linn LP12. I've always worked in the electronics / semiconductor business and a distribution company I was with in the 90's were a supplier to Linn. No matter how hard I tried I never managed to bag a jolly (well....business meeting...) to see the company.... To me, Linn represent one of the leading companies in the UK. Nothing but respect for the company and what they have achieved. One day I hope to come up as a visitor :) Stay safe and healthy.

Wow. My first and only (so far) visit to the factory was in the early 90s when I worked for a Linn retailer. The place was still pretty much new back then and still had that "factory fresh" polish about it. Now it looks a little more "lived in" with the necessary changes required over the last 30 years. You could say it looks a little more "Organik" now!

Nice factory tour. Perhaps you should lock the 5-axis CNC machine inside some kind of noise box. You can hear it throughout the whole work floor tour, and it must be very annoying for workers who do not work with CNC directly to listen to this machine the whole day. Good working environment is important and your employees must also be able to hear the fine sound from the Linn products after work :-)

I have a 1973 Linn Sondek LP-12 it came with a DECCA tonearm and cartridge but I changed it to a Grace 727 tonearm in 1975 and a Grace cartridge, it does need some work though but it still works fine just needs some adjustment.

After SMC assembly it would improve quality Assurance by employing a optical comparator instead of a bloke with a magnifying lens. This will any component defects are captured and boards can potentially be reworked. Nice video though.

A great video, providing real insight into how Linn works from the start of their production, to the finished products they produce and sell to the public. Just had my LP12 upgraded with the new Karousel bearing and to say it's a fantastic upgrade is an understatement. Many of their upgrades for the LP12 are excellent but very costly, however Karousel has to be one of, if not the best in a long time. Take my advice and just have it installed, you will never regret it, it's fantastic and we'll worth its £750 cost.

I really appreciated this tour. I did visit about 10 years ago and am amazed at all the changes! I currently own both the 530’s and the 350’s. During the tour I didn’t see any speaker assembly except for the rear electronics of a 350. I’d love to see or understand a bit more of your speaker manufacturing process, perhaps in a future video?

The 'majik' room is the place I'm interested in mostly. I get the feeling that you might bump into the 'men in black' in this room. Playing with 'majik' does have its downside as those boffins/majikians are all to aware of in the long term. I liked Kate Bush when she hit the scene back in the day and one of the major driving forces steering her was David Gilmour from Pink Floyd, his connection to the EMI recording and engineering labs and their links to The Tavistock Institute always intrigued me. Anyway, Robert Bush, Kate's father, was medical doctor who theorised directional sound waves could be used in therapy of the body and mind. The Ministry Of Defence always had the eyes and ears on the bright boys and girls like Joe Meek and The BBC Radio Phonic Workshop, the BBC 'spell' boys and girls always had the best toys to play with ...G...

Hi Phil, I'm guessing that your LP12 has a Valhalla internal power supply, easily recognised by the black power switch with a single red led? Valhallas do eventually fail, any accredited Linn dealer should be able to repair it for a fraction of quoted £1500 which is ridiculous. I'm presuming that you're UK based? If you're still stuck contact me on here and I'm sure you can once again enjoy your vinyl played on the LP12.

Hi Great territorial on Linn , I’ve purchased my Linn LP 12 back in the early 80s it’s been a beautiful bit of kit but I decided to pack up last year, Our then made some enquiries and I was told it was going to cost around about £1500 to repair, So it’s now sitting on my stand as a piece of art as I cannot afford to have it repaired as I am a pensioner, So Cannot listen to my vinyl, Phil

Fascinating. How long does it take to plan the manufacturing process for a new product such as developing the new ultra-thin stencil, setting-up the inneos etc? The blocks of aluminium for Klimax range, does the casting method prevent it being casted into a style required rather than machining it? How do the robots know when they need to deliver more materials?
@LinnProductsLtd
@LinnProductsLtd 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Darren, great question. When our engineers design a new circuit board, the design also creates the data we require to program the placement machines and to create the ultra-thin stencil, so manufacturing and design are completely integrated. The stencils are produced by a local supplier and normally arrive at the factory within 48 hours of ordering. The placement machines themselves are very flexible and take only a few minutes to switch from one circuit board setup to a different one. We machine our Klimax metalwork as the billets are of the highest purity and, therefore, provide the best possible finish before anodising. Our robots are integrated with our stock management system here in the factory, which dispatches them to any of our build stations as required to either deliver or collect. They can also be manually requested by our stores team if the need arises. Hope this answers your question.
