Yes because they made a big mistake I believe. Using a 650W power supply even that efficient seems a bad choice for their setup. It will still pull more electricity than a 400W Psu at both the same efficiency rating.

@@OptLab Ya. I do like the idea that they can just swop out the bios chip and run this at higer power rig whenever they want. But you would need the mobo's with the option to plug in bios chips. Or custom solder a soc for the bios chip.
@ImDembe
@ImDembe Жыл бұрын
@@OptLab Why is that so? If they have the same efficiency they will draw the same power, dosn't matter if it's 400w or 1400w.
@OptLab
@OptLab Жыл бұрын
@@ImDembe It does matter. At 4% load of the psu total, efficiency is about 85% even for a Platinium/titanium psu. The higher wattage your psu max amount is, the furthest its efficiency peak of 80+ (or 95+ for titanium) it will stay on idle. After some research I realized they could have used the seasonic titanium TX-600 instead of the 650 at least, since there are not (none?) many titanium psus under 400W. This rule is very true for non-titanium PSUS (bronze for example) because the difference between idle efficiency and efficiency peak is huge.

Thanks! This is what I was looking for. I've been living in a bus for about a year with a solar PV system to provide electricity. I'm planning to upgrade my computer, so power efficiency is important when picking parts. It's usually not a problem. My current system (i5 3570K/GTX 1070 Ti) can run 24/7 under good conditions, i.e. sunny summer days. Cloudy winter days really cut into that, so every watt I can save helps extend my running time.

Yes, this is a HUGE piece that should have been included in the video! I want to see the percentage drop in power consumption and the percentage loss in performance versus the stock settings. If it's like 10% power savings for a 10% loss in FPS, at that point we should probably just buy a lower-end part and call it a day. If it's like a 40% power savings for a 10% loss in FPS, that's awesome and makes this seem worth doing, but it's still good to know what the approximate FPS hit is; the day will come when your system can't give you a stable 60 FPS and it'll be nice to know about how much performance overhead you have if you were to revert to stock.

Contrary to reality, nuclear is viewed as "the anti-green power." It makes no sense to me either, but maybe it's association with the bombs? Mr. Burns' plant on The Simpsons? The only incidents I can think of where a nuclear plant actually released material into the environment were Chernobyl (with compromized design and construction compounded by shutting down all the safety measures, including ones not in the plan, for a test) and Daiichi, which was poorly located but would ahve been fine without a natural disaster. Compare to every coal or oil or natural gas plant ever spewing combustion products, all day erry day... especially coal, which themselves can actually release radioactive material from stuff in the coal from what I've read.
