Bought my sis a Sony laptop a couple years ago. It needed to go in for service 3 times so far, however the service was excellent and fast every time, free shipping both ways. Twice it was the fan malfunctioning and once the hard drive died.

Sony gives you a lot of punch and quality for your money. I just ordered a Vaio with a 17" HD screen, i7 quad core 3rd generation, 8GB Ram, AMD graphics card with 2 GB, Blue ray drive (+writer), 320 GB hard drive and some more nice stuff for just a little over 800€ (about 1100 $)

Haha I did as well when I got my laptop, I absolutely hate all that filler software that gets thrown onto your computer, one of those joys I often forget about when building your own desktop, you never have to worry about having to deal with a whole bunch of unwanted software from the manufacturer >:| HP is notoriously bad in my opinion, so many programs.

@timg555 there are some virusses for linux as well... just not that many because almost no one uses it (a small percentage against mac or pc)

@RussMusiq1 must've just been that model, i've got an fs35 sony vaio and it's pretty much a paper weight BUT it's still working, however it's too weak for my needs now. Just from that vaio, I'd recommend another but now I go with ASUS because they've got the best warranty.

i like acer my self my sli 250 acer is pretty sweet its taken a fall from like 5 feet and not a prob scratch or ding 19inch screen and i payed 799 for it on newegg lol was 1600 with a core2 intel 6g ddr3 ram great laptop i dont like sony much just cause u dont get what u pay for for them
