@@p4skal0 Sony’s new entry laser (the 5000) is ok for the price, (but 6k and no motorized lens adjustment? C’mon!) but the other two laser models have been horribly overpriced for the North American market (the 6000 and 7000). (Europe is much more sane.) @@bvbdrag0n Agreed. Native 4K is a lousy place to spend your bucks in the projector world. I’ve pixel peeped the JVC NZ series, the older NX series, all alongside even the lowly 2 way pixel shifters and at even 5 feet away on a 120 “ screen you’re going to have trouble spotting the difference in motion. Now good native contrast ratio coupled with higher lumen output? That’s where the fun is at!

09:50 Unless you have acoustically transparent screen, you shouldn't put the center speaker behind the screen. And if you have 4K or 8K screen, it's rarely acoustically transparent because the traditional way to make it acoustically transparent was to make if full of small holes. 4K resolution is high enough that any holes in the screen cause problems. Having the center below or above the screen is fine but you should make sure that the second row can *see* the center speaker or they will get much worse dialogue audio. (This works because ears are around the same height in your head as your eyes. If the center speaker is too low and you cannot see it, you cannot either directly hear it and you'll be listening bounced audio only.)
@Antimonkat
@Antimonkat 2 жыл бұрын
at any reasonable seating distance, the holes don't make any noticeable difference with even a halfway decent screen weave even at 4k. all pro cinema's have speakers behind an AT screen, it's fine

" And if you have 4K or 8K screen, it's rarely acoustically transparent because the traditional way to make it acoustically transparent was to make if full of small holes." For higher resolutions there's a lot of weaved screens that are acoustically transparent and can handle a user sitting much closer than a perforated screen. The tradeoff is gain is usually around 10-15% lower on the weave screen vs a perf. (0.85 vs 1.0)

Do you want maximum audio quality or nice looking speakers? If you want "both", the closest you can get is something like Genelec 8260 or 8361 which doesn't look bad even when it's pointed directly towards the listener. For satellite setup you could use something like Genelec 8330 if you have good subwoofers. The price might get your eyes a bit moist, though.

To solve your projector light bleed issue when watching various aspect ratio content you'll want to consider swapping to something that supports an anamorphic lens. No light bleed if there's no light transmitted there in the first place! That's when you then use furniture or curtains or whatever to cover the unused portion of the screen.
@Antimonkat
@Antimonkat 2 жыл бұрын
the Epson supports an anamorphic lens, but i dont think it will automatically, problem is you need to engage or disengage it depending on content, and you aren't getting all that much benefit considering the lens costs 2-3x what the projector does.

Not really a bad plan when it works, which it seems like it does for linus. The fact it appears they have a really positive and healthy environment as well as relationships with the hires makes a big difference when those hires appear on screen, you can fake being happy admittedly, but it is hard to do it consistently. Subwoofer placement definitely matters. Room modes are a real thing and you can get huge dips in bass in certain seating positions if you are not careful. 2 subwoofers definitely helps even this out but it is still important to place them correctly. Doing a sub crawl will help in this regard and also running room correction software will help as well as long as it has a separate bass management component, ie Dirac Live, Audyssey XT etc.
@Antimonkat
@Antimonkat 2 жыл бұрын
yeah but at the same time it matters less the more subs you have, and in his case he has them in differnt planes, vertical and horizontal. to, he's running 4 subs, with 6 drivers, depending on how he is running his towers anyway. Obviously wih the room config the subs can only go so many places without being in the way, it'll be fine, especially if he doesn't obsess over seat to seat consistency, long as they get time and phase aligned.
@DJTimeLock
@DJTimeLock 2 жыл бұрын
As Dan said the frequencies are so low that their wavelength is so big it'll practically fill the entire room regardless of where they are. What you should however note is the reflection of those waves as the reflected waves can counteract and indeed create "dead space" (look at 2 water drips falling into a pond and how their waves cancel each other out at certain parts). But other than that its not that big a deal (and tbh you gotta be real unlucky for that to happen anyway)
@KoenvdW88
@KoenvdW88 2 жыл бұрын
Except for the fact that Audyssey is the worst room correction software in the world and hates subwoofers. Sub placement matters only if it's a ported sub where the port is aimed at you and you've only got reflective surfaces. If I can get away with just putting a balled up pair of socks in my soundbar's ported upright sub and having it sound fine in a very reflective room, Linus will not be running into issues here. The only times I've had to do a sub crawl in the past 10 years was when someone had set up their speakers with Audyssey and I had to correct it for them...
@Antimonkat
@Antimonkat 2 жыл бұрын
@@KoenvdW88 oh there are worse...arc didn't even work til recently. and no one like yamaha's implementation. Audyssey is fine if you help it with the editor and don't give it complete crap to start with. Bottom line, if you have 2 or more (high quality) subs you're going to be ok, unless you are in a very challenging room. And I doubt the kids or his wife are all that picky anyway.
@joegibes
@joegibes 2 жыл бұрын
For a small room with two subs, it'll probably sound fine wherever - but it's worth working on the placement to get consistent bass at most of the seats. Also probably worth floor to ceiling corner bass traps and acoustic panels at first reflection points... The acoustic treatment would be a nice project, maybe they can bring in someone experienced to teach us!

@@SwolePapi15 the big one that stood out to me was the subwoofer placement. It's crucial to get good bass and proper placement. The more subwoofers the better for equal sound and no peeks or booms. Bass is hard to manage as the sound waves are much longer then everything else above 45hz that's why it's sometimes good to place a sub in a corner of the room with space off the wall and even move it around to see if your getting any dips or nulls

Bolt the plywood to the three studs with three screws each, paint it, then bolt the tv to the plywood in exactly the position you want. A little less elegant than plywood behind the drywall, but works great for a quick fix.
