I really wonder how difficult it would be to get hardware accelerated video working. I know it has an AMD Radeon based GPU, so theoretically the open source drivers could be used as a starting point. Way above my pay grade though unfortunately.

Hey, compucat from linux-wiiu. It's not trivial for many reasons, but primarily: the radeon kernel driver (amdgpu's too new) expects the GPU to appear on a PCI bus. The Wii U's GPU doesn't know what PCI is - its registers are just plopped into main memory, and radeon has no idea how to deal with that. It's going to take extensive work to patch radeon to work with mmio only (and work around other issues like atombios)

Yea concidering how lazy the Wii U community is compared to the Wii. Hell they just re-used the vWii emulators with a lazy overclock instead of actually porting the emulators to the Wii U for better performance

Hey dude, whats in your boot.cfg on the SD card? The git page says to use the SD card's second partition, but how do I use USB?

I didn't have to setup the boot.cfg as I'm just using the default debian rootfs from the repo. I am planning on making a more in-depth guide on Linux on the Wii U soon though

Would be nice if MorphOS or Aros would work. They run on PPC 32bit, but hardware support seems really hard coded.

This is a good idea but is also a bad idea since CBHC puts your Wii U at risk, CBHC has a high brick rate.

I however downloaded wii-linux-ngx github.com/neagix/wii-linux-ngx upgraded it to sid using those repos installed mono so I could use my youtube-downloader (uses github.com/tyrrrz/KZfaqExplode ) In jessie I used github.com/omansak/libvideo I used wii-linux-ngx before I did this (but it was jessie and I was getting tired of it, it also had xorg and transmission-daemon and k3b for burning mix cds with track 12 being kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n9JpodSI3J-7Y40.html yes I memorized that Video ID: the il9nqWw9W3Y part also I memorized kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rK-dqd2CqMiUn2w.html I downloaded this on my Wii unlike il9nqWw9W3Y)

The rootfs is on the USB stick; At the moment there isn't any proper way of installing an alternative OS to the Wii U's NAND; And honestly why would someone do that? All you'd be doing is essentially turning your WIi U into a Linux PC and getting rid of any functionality that makes it unique.

Hmmmmmm....i wonder.....since batocera is Linux based....and Linux can boot on the wiiu.....can batocera run on the wiiu....so retro games could be played on the wiiu...and with the wiiu game pad???? 🤔🤔🤔

It's far more effective and performant to just run Retroarch natively on the Wii U. It's available as homebrew.

@@LennyQUMFIF I'm not sure what you mean with that. CEMU does not include Wii U source code. The Wii U does probably not have sources of itself, but built binaries. That doesn't matter though, as Linux on Wii U does not use Wii U software (IIRC), which also wouldn't matter, as CMEU does not.

Yes, through a PPC-compiled version of the source engine. Of course, with one CPU core and basically no GPU, performance will be amazingly pitiful.

Unfortunate this is the extent of what you can do. The Wii U is currently a brick rotting away as it's no longer supported and you can basically not do anything with its web browser anymore.

@Walther Penne I don't know what I expected but not this incredible garbage. They can't even keep the web browser functional, and gave everyone a fuck you with the deluxe DLC games that don't release on Wii U. Other consoles at least keep a level of support but Nintendo literally dropped the Wii U and acts like it doesn't exist. It was definitely the last console I ever purchased though, I'm so done with all the crap they're pulling, especially paid online
