The lion ( I didn't catch his name lol) came up to the glass and either saw a reflection from the camera, liked me enough to eat or didn't like me at all...or my beard was a threat one of them lol, was an amazing experience but scary even with that glass...that I thank ever so much.

I'm on the fence with zoos, some i completely disagree with, some i think do a pretty damn good job, Some of the comments on here saying stuff like "they should be free" or "look at those people laughing at them" I get it, they will get annoyed at people looking at them all day everyday but have some of you actually done research on this type of lion ? They are Asiatic lions, there are 300 or so left in the wild and even though their numbers are increasing, they are running out of space in forests, the reason they are at the zoo is because they are Endangered, Paignton are trying to boost their numbers up otherwise they will be extinct one day and i know some people will say "thats the way of life" but we're the reason they're Endangered to an extent because of poaching. So please do some research, it sounds crazy but some zoos actually do help animals.
@yonghwajonghyun6074
@yonghwajonghyun6074 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah maybe it's helping its species but not really these animals they still live a miserable life in captivity. Just look at seaworld it's there purely for entertaining purposes and those orcas are going crazy in there.
@Raxuu44
@Raxuu44 4 жыл бұрын
It is just about one simple question: Is the life in the cage more fun for them or a shorter life but in completly freedom? The argument you gave is just good for humans to show one more species on earth in cages. But living in a life term prison like that can't be the better life for them.
@2cheetahseatingapumpkin502
@2cheetahseatingapumpkin502 4 жыл бұрын
Diecii Unknwon In the wild they would be in a constant struggle. Each one of them could have been mauled during cubhood, starved to death, been utterly mutilated or paralyzed and dealt a slow and excruciating death. Most of their lives aren’t spent having ‘fun’. As long as they have plenty, PLENTY of space to roam and provided challenges which speak to their baser instincts, a captive life is arguably far better than the alternative. The problem is many zoos don’t provide the proper space and environment for their animals.

@@jyaacovmyers2318 Exactly. It's one thing for people to argue that loss of habitat worsens a lion's already poor chances of surviving to adulthood, but since human beings are partly responsible for that we could at least demonstrate respect when we visit them in captivity.

@kangarookirby 10 жыл бұрын
***** "So if we held you in captivity and because of this you would live 50 years longer it would be okay?" No, because I have free will and reasoning. A lion does not have these things. A lion doesn't feel anything beyond what its senses tell it to feel. A lion has no sense of self nor time nor freedom nor consequence. All a lion feels is biological needs, all of which are achievable in captivity. Amazing as they are, lions are not people, and should not be treated as such (for their sake). "Every living sentient being has the right to be free." I don't think you know what you mean by "sentient." If by "sentient" you mean "is able to move around and do stuff," then vines, dandelions, slugs, mushrooms, and sponges are "sentient beings," making the ownership of goldfish, farm animals, and potted plants an affront to freedom. If by "sentient" you mean "mentally aware" (cognizant, conscious), then you're right, just wrong about applying sentience to lions (or anything that does not have reasoning power, which is currently limited to human beings). So stop paraphrasing Optimus Prime: you're doing it wrong.

I think the Lion was telling all the people there something for sure. As soon as Mrs. Lion got up to take a stroll , the Lions body language says it all. If I am not mistaken, I think the Lion protects Mrs. Lion and the cubs in the wild. So naturally as soon as she got up for a stroll he being the protector immediately turns into MI Lion or something, just look at his body language👀his eyes suddenly are focus looking as if he looking for any danger🤣awww too cute. And just in case he approaches the humans and pounces on the glass as if saying He is watching and protecting. oh too adorable.🥰

Went I was a kid me and my dad went to Paignton zoo, like 17 years ago now, when I was a toddler, they made a stronger enclosure not long after, there was just a fence going all around before, probably because of what my dad did. The lion looked bored Af so he climbed up the fence and started shaking it. Just like the vid except it came sprinting full pelt, jumped up half the fence, and roared. Must have given it some excitement, never gets the thrill to hunt. One of my primary memories when I think of childhood. Probs the same lion here. Guuuud times.

I have to wonder if living in the wild is actually better than living at a zoo. I mean if I was a lion at a zoo all I would have to do is sleep all day, I don't have to worry about chasing down my food or starving if I can't find any or risk getting seriously injured while hunting. I got female/s at my disposal to bang whenever I feel like it and don't have to worry about any stronger males coming to fight me. I may even get meds if I'm feeling a bit unwell. Seems like a pretty good life to me.

Yeesh, that's terrifying. I had a similar experience at a zoo a few weeks ago. I had rounded a corner inside a pavilion, which has a glass view to the outside, into the tigers pen. It was fairly quiet, no other visitors, and the second I stepped around the corner,the tiger pounced and crouched, eyeing me. Glass or no glass, that was pretty frightening, and I tread more carefully around his pen the next few minutes..

Lions seem to always pick out someone they don't like, even in large crowds in zoo's, there's always that one guy the lion does not like. Don't no if it's the way they look or the lion considers that person a threat? Might be bright clothing? don't no...

It's true of all these big cats. It's quite remarkable. Remember that story about the guys who were taunting the lions and tigers at the San Francisco zoo? They pissed the tiger off, it escaped it's enclosure, found the boys who were teasing it, and killed one of them. I think it's brilliant.

As a coach driver I got free entry to many tourist attractions, including zoos. I always treat the animals with respect, I've seen what they can do. A chimpanzee with a handful of poop can demonstrate marksmanship of the highest order. If you make silly faces at them they will. At Whipsnade zoo the hippo had clean water in its pool. It promptly vacated its bowels into the water, and start wagging its tail in such a way as to contaminate the people at the front who were pointing and laughing

I understand your point, as dinosors became extinct naturally, but there's scenes behind zoos and their breeding animals, as soon as they've saved the species they SHOULD let them go, but no, they put them in cages, thats what i think is the biggest problem about zoos
@xxKuro1
@xxKuro1 9 жыл бұрын
As much as I agree with animals being in their natural environment I feel like zoos are more for educating people on animals For example, if you went to the zoo as a child you grow amazed at some animals and develop and interest in them thus raising awareness towards animals Such as people who have been to the zoo and seen a lion are more inclined to care about helping them if possible, or kids are more probable to grow up into someone fascinated with animals and end up helping and saving animals I am against the mistreatment of animals, but i feel that as long as a zoo takes care of their animals it's acceptable for them to exist
@ChillerCabra
@ChillerCabra 9 жыл бұрын
Isabel Wilson animals going extinct is entirely in nature, even humans (because we are in fact animals) will go extinct one day, it happened several millennia before us, and it will when we are gone. it's sad, I can't believe one day elephants or tigers would be gone. But it will happen for evolution's sake.

Whetehr they see us as ants or some really interesting creature. if they are eons ahead of us intelectually they wouldnt even give us a second thought. I mean, if we're only a percentage away from monekys, looka t what we can do that they cant. What if an other worldly civilization isnt as clsoe to us in nature? Thats a scary thought.

There is no chance to treat and keep them "properly", a zoo can't even remotely provide what their natural habitat gives them. And how in the world are they meant to live in peace when humans are standing on the other side of the glass constantly gazing at them, taking photos and knocking on the glass. What the lion is doin' here is an act of frustration. Check out other videos of wild animals jumping against the glass. They are FRUSTRATED.
