Yeah, that creeped me out too, so I choose to ignore it. Actually there are lots of things said in this play / movie to creep you out "you threw me out of bed for Richard", " your father...you were in the next room when he did it", etc. No wonder they are all twisted "royal corkscrews" Still love the film though. O'Toole's a giant of an actor in this one. Henry's a "marvel of a man"... and I'd want Alais too!

Until recently, it was a right of passage in Britain. Particularly amongst the ruling classes. I remember seeing a 1950s published book called 'The Public Schools' (private schools in Britain) where homosexuality is discussed as being quite normal for teenage boys, though only as "a phase". Odd when you consider that it was illegal until 1967. Then again, the British rich and powerful have always carried on outside the law.
