Lionel was so joyful in his music! No wonder, these songs and instruments were TRUE music. The men were professionals who took their music seriously and played to the crowds. I love all the different pieces, piano, horns, drums and vibes. No doubt, Lionel could play them all. Even his one finger playing of the piano is out of sight! Love it all!! SYLVIA - FL

@OscarPetersonFan Hamp played the piano solos with one finger of each hand like he was using mallets, brilliant as a visual trick but backed up with superb playing. Love Arnett Cobb's solo too, UK music journalist once described blues singer Howling Wolf's voice as "sounding like a hurricane being forced through a letterbox" and to me that's what Arnett's sound was like, big, beautiful and dangerous!

Even if Hampton was making a show for a big audience there´s mora jazz in this version than in many other "big bands"
