The Lionel Instructions say to connect the isolated sections on the opposite side from the Lock on. Page 5 of the Activator Track pack instructions, step 2. Tom Lake asked this question below 4 months ago and did not receive an answer. My guess is that they will work on either side as long as they are both oriented on the same side.

Here's my question: many accessories, like the Gateman, Milk Cars, Crossing Gates etc require lower voltage than the 18v AC or DC that come out of the power supplies(12-14v max). Have these accessories and their light bulbs been adjusted to handle the higher track voltage?
@ThePacerX
@ThePacerX 6 жыл бұрын
They'll all run at 18v AC with no problems. I power all my accessories from a postwar transformer off the 19v pins, never had a hiccup.
@hungryhungryhummer
@hungryhungryhummer 5 жыл бұрын
They’re all able to run on 18 volts safely. However some people turn down the voltage as the accessories run about the same at 12 to 14 volts and the lights will be at a more comfortable level.

Hey just to let you know if you have the 18v 3 amp 54w transformers and you have 2 trains for example. I have the Hogwarts and the polar express. I run both transformers at the same time. On the same track. 108w now without spending money. Then I flipped all the lights to led and that saved me 30 w of heat.

Here's a basic question that I can't seem to find the answer in any of these videos. If you have 4amps dedicated only to accessories, how many can you run (lets assume they are all running at the same time) using one power pack? (I have older accessories, like the Ferris Wheel, the scrambler, the duck shooting gallery, etc; which say in the instructions run best at 18v) and I'll repeat mine and Tony Curcio's question; the cable you reference for the cw-80 is not the part number; where can we get that transformer terminal to barrel jack adapter cable?

A 72 watt power supply should be the minimum power supply in your ready-to-run sets. Why stick the customer with a weaker power supply, that is eventually going to sit on a shelf collecting dust. The older, non-Lionchief sets came with an 80 watt power supply, and track expansion was not a problem.
@scottsmith2052
@scottsmith2052 3 жыл бұрын
First of all, 72 watts in only 10% less than 80 watts. I'm sure somebody in the corporate office determined that was a small price to pay for the economy of manufacture. Second, my experience is that the 72 watt pack runs two trains (no accessories, but on an expanded Fastrack track) just fine. Finally, they showed in the video a method to repurpose your 72 watt pack after you upgrade so that it doesn't sit on a shelf collecting dust. By the way, Lionel doesn't have any proprietary technology in this area. Any 18 volt DC power supply you find laying around the house with sufficient power (check the amps/watts on the back of the unit), correct polarity, and a similar barrel adapter will run your trains and accessories.

Is there a way to wire a very large oval, let’s say 16 feet, so that there are jumpers to the different parts of the track? I set up a layout that ran the length of my family room but the engine slowed down as I traveled further away from the power source? What happens if you attach more than one power source to the same track. If it can’t be done I will use a traditional transformer and put multiple points of contact on the different sides of the track. I used the extra long straits wherever possible to reduce the number of connections.
@scottsmith2052
@scottsmith2052 3 жыл бұрын
Much bigger! However, the video doesn't mention how much of your transformer power is needed to simply overcome power that is lost due to faulty track connections. A cloverleaf type pattern with the power to the center will perform better than a huge oval because while the layout can get huge, the train is never really that far from power. When you do want to build farther from the power track, their are various solutions, including some built right into the bottom of the track, but that is another topic.
@scottsmith2052
@scottsmith2052 3 жыл бұрын
@@gregleuze6657 Consider soldering pairs of short jumper wires under the track to get power across every single track connection. Attaching more than one DC power source would be fine if you electrically isolated the track into multiple blocks. You would probably be fine even without the blocks because the power is in parallel. I'm not sure. I expect the train would pull amps from whichever power supply it was closest to at any given moment. I would use identical packs to try this.

Why can't accessories just plug directly into your wall outlet (and hence each accessory has it's own AC to DC converter) rather than have the intermediary of having to go through a piece of track? Seems like an unnecessary complication.
@scottsmith2052
@scottsmith2052 3 жыл бұрын
I don't know. I could see this as a safety/regulatory issue. Are you proposing having full 110v line power coming up through the table and going to every accessory? That would have serious safety challenges. If each accessory had its own wall wart (which would be safer), I don't think that would really make anything better. Your power bus would turn into a power strip with three wall warts plugged into it.

Somebody told me if I don't understand how to run the new Lionel trains, all I need to do is ask any 9-year-old. Well, I'm 72 and I understood about half of this video. If you add enough accessories that the train doesn't run anymore, you can buy a "72-watt LionChief power supply". Would a 9-year-old understand whether you are talking about adding that to the "Wall-pack" power supply that comes with the train set? I don't. Next suggestion: " You could get the multiport lockon so you have dedicated power to the train". Would a 9-year-old understand whether you are talking about running the accessories off of the track or whether you are talking about wiring the accessories to one of the two power supplies you now have? I don't. Would a 9-year-old know what you mean by a barrel-jack adapter track? I don't. I could go on but here is what I suggest you do: Find a 9-year-old who has no experience with Lionel trains and no experience with actually hooking up electronic equipment other than plugging in his video game equipment. Put him on the same side of the table as the camera and talk to the 9-year-old instead of the camera. Let me know when that video is ready by emailing me at r.metzger44@gmail.com Thanks

Roger Metzger Yo you must be really stupid if you don’t understand this. He litterally shows you everything. Idk if you could explain it better to to a 9 year old. Most 9 year olds can figure this out on their own. I was able to figure out accessories and stuff when I was 9.
