These lions were trying to dig into a pork meal when uninvited guests decided to join the party…
BOOK YOUR TRIP TO KRUGER: bit.ly/BookatKruger
Callum Gowar, who was a game ranger at the time of filming, and had been for five years, told Latestsightings.com: “Any person that has been on safari can attest to the fact that lions are often found fast asleep during the hot hours of the day. On this particular morning, it was of that similar circumstance.
Send in your wildlife video here, and earn money: www.latestsightings.com/partn...
After a morning coffee break, we decided to view the lions (that had been found earlier in the morning) without any expectations of them moving away from a relatively shady spot. We were wrong and gladly so! The two lionesses began to stretch and yawn, both signs of lions becoming active. They were soon up and walking towards a small watering hole nearby. Their demeanor drastically changed, and they began to stalk a herd of impala that had already taken shade in the relatively dense thicket. Turning the vehicle off and watching from a neutral distance so as not to affect the potential hunt (for predator or prey), we heard the alarm calls of the impala and raced in. To our amazement, in the frantic nature of the hunt, the lions had managed to catch a panicked warthog.
The warthog began fighting and screaming and continued fighting for about fifteen minutes. Its power and determination was incredible to witness despite its imminent demise. The frantic noises of the kill and the alarming impala drew the attention of nearby hyenas. At first, there were three, then five, then nine, then 12 and then 15. It was absolutely incredible! They challenged the lions with noisy intimidation of cackles and laughing whilst then slowly surrounding them. Soon, many hyenas had gathered and the fight was on. The one lion left just in time whilst the remaining lionesses stayed behind a second or two too long and received a few bites as she made her hasty retreat. Needless to say the remaining warthog’s scraps didn't go too far amongst fifteen hungry hyenas.
This was probably my best sighting ever. Seeing a predator on predator interaction is special enough but to have a kill in it that makes it once in a lifetime.”

Incredible!! A few things I noticed. 1. Lovely snapshot of the hog's head, that's a photo I'd touch up and have prints made. 2. Any wild dog or hyena will tell you, it's not necessary to kill prey before digging in, just neccessary to subdue or restrain it. My guess is that because lions must go for larger prey to feed more individuals, strangulation becomes instinctive in order to prevent escapes. 3. Notice the lions don't show much attempt to run off the hyenas. They know they're outnumbered, probably more will show up shortly, so they eat as much as they can while they still control it instead of wasting time and energy putting up a big fight and risking injury. This video is super insightful into a few behaviors, huge props to the guides for the opportunity and the videographer for taking it!

Notice how the one kept howling into the ground? That’s how They call the Others. Through the vibration of the earth, the Others know to come. Much like the Elephants using sonic frequencies that We can’t detect, but through The soles of Their feet They feel the vibration. Against 2 Hyenas it’s no problem, but 6-10 is too much. Warthogs are one of the toughest animals to kill, because of the thickness of Their skin. Even Leopards have a hard time chocking them out.

Hyenas always have to call for backup if they want to take a lions meal. It started with two Hyenas to which they knew they wouldn’t of stood a chance, so only way to be successful is to call out for more Hyenas.
