We take an exhilarating ride on a classic Budd M3 with its patented “Railfan Window” on an express train between Babylon and Penn Station NYC. All stations, interlockings, signal indications, and most passing trains are identified. Additional items of knowledge are posted in graphics. This is the first time I ever did a complete RFW ride on my home line between Babylon and Penn Station.

When I used to live in North Babylon, my usual Saturday shopping trip into NYC was to drive to Forest Hills and take the E/F subway. But if I didn't feel like driving, I'd take the Babylon Express, usually stopping only at Freeport, Jamaica and Woodside. We went 80 most of the way and the whole trip took just over 50 minutes. But your train went faster thru Sunnyside than the trains I usually rode.

Sunnyside/Harold Interlocking is usually 60mph unless ACSES/ATC is handing out speed restrictions due to congestion on the line. LIRR changes signaling types from ATC only to ACSES/ATC where Port Washington branch joins up as that is shortly before the point where the LIRR main line joins the NEC main line.

The branch I grew up with in my childhood! I actually ran in one day on my feet from Babylon to Valley Stream (about 20 miles)! When those elevators go into service, all of the Babylon Branch stations will be ADA compliant. St. Albans, Laurelton, and Locust Manor will have elevators installed, and the elevators at Valley Stream and Auburndale will be replaced this year. Babylon (9/9/1964 and was always ADA compliant). Lindenhurst-Copiague-Amityville (8/7/1973, wouldn't become ADA compliant until 2024). Massapequa Park (12/13/1980, wouldn't become ADA compliant until 2024). Massapequa (1/1953, ADA compliant since at least 1966). Seaford-Wantagh (10/22/1968, Seaford became ADA compliant in 2009, Wantagh in 2018). Bellmore-Merrick (6/28/1975, Bellmore became ADA compliant in 2000, Merrick in 1999). Freeport (10/11/1960 and was always ADA compliant). Baldwin (10/2/1957 and always ADA compliant). I should also note that I've done rear-view rides on the Pennsylvanian 3 times without any trouble. If you look to the right at 5:05 to 5:08. There are a couple of NYC streetlight standards known as Deskey poles in that Lindenhurst LIRR Station parking area. Notice the looped shaped streetlights. These were very common in NYC in the mid 1950's to the late 1980's. There are a few left in NYC still. Donald Desky poles.

36:19 Would you do a video about all of the construction at the mouth of the Atlantic Branch underpass tunnels ? What's it all about ? What about the Brooklyn to Far Rockaway routing ? There is a new platform on the south side of Jamaica Station, which is pretty mysterious to me, and extremely intriguing. 49:48 The wires on the right are up for the Amtrak Manhattan bound bypass. 50:36 Amtrak underpass on right, and 50:44 on left after going under our track. 53:28 Why did the North River (Hudson) tunnels get so damaged during Hurricane Sandy, but the 4 LIRR tunnels don't seem hurt at all ?? Someone must have really 'f---ed up majorly on the 2 Hudson Tunnels. The tunnels started moving around almost as soon as they were made; I think that they weren't built deeply enough; they will float to the top of the river like a boat, if not weighed down ! The Pennsy civil engineer had his concerns from the get go. WOULD YOU HIGHLIGHT AND MAKE DEDICATED VIDEOS ABOUT CONSTRUCTION SITES ON THESE RAILWAYS ??? Pretty please ?
