A voice recording of a 911 call made by a six-year-old girl named Lisa. She called 911 for assistance when she notice the violently fight got out of hand between her mother stepfather. You can hear the horror and trauma in her voice alone. I do not own the rights to this audio

The call was made back in November 21, 1990 at 10:13 PM. 6 year old *Lisa Floyd* witnessed her mother, *Cindy Floyd,* and her siblings being abused by her stepfather. So Lisa ended up calling 911, as it took them suddenly a while to get over to the home. As soon as they got there, the mother was being beaten and abused brutally. As for Lisa, she was found in her own abusive relationship later in life. Lisa is now an adult, and is living a much more sophisticated life, and when *Kit Gruelle* interviewed her about this Lisa said she cannot re-live this night.

@@kimberlyplush6404 I think scared. In the time it took police to get there, it could have escalated. I think she was afraid he would hurt the kids. She kept telling them to shush, and I think it was because she didn't want their crying to put them on his radar. I know it sounds crazy, but that is the mindset. You want your kids to be quiet and lie low so the crazy A-hole doesn't hurt them.

I dont get why people are getting mad at the mom telling her to shut up. Its possible she must have not wanted her daughter get hit by the drunk stepdad if she kept screaming, so she told her to shut up. You cant expect the mom to be calm and gentle in a chaotic situation like this...

@andreafievre6351
@andreafievre6351 3 жыл бұрын
What… you have to be dumb. How reassuring and calm would you be if you were getting BRUTALLY beaten, see one of your kids knocked out, and the other one is screaming their head off… on top of that theres nothing to reassure! The kid can SEE the stepdad nearly killing her mother. Theres no statement that would calm the child down from seeing that. The only thing that would protect Lisa is if she would have kept quiet before the stepdad turned on her and decided to knock her out just to stop the screaming. The victim blaming in this comment section is CRAZY. Yes lisa is a victim but lets not forget her mother as well .
@_cherrili
@_cherrili 3 жыл бұрын
@@andreafievre6351 hmm- i heard other say that the mother made the children lie to CPS. And Lisa also admitted her mother was also abusive. I feel it’s very unlikely that the mother said it out of compassion for the child, or maybe she did. But judging from her tone of voice, it seems like the mother didn’t want the husband to get in trouble. And she knew Lisa was calling someone, and when she was screaming, she realized her husband will definitely get in trouble. I’m not confident in this truth, but my stepdad is also abusive as well. My mother still hasn’t divorced him, and she takes his side over mine any time. It’s unfortunately, very unlikely, that the mother here was trying to protect her children. :( But I do agree with you, she shouldn’t take all the fault and blame. She is a victim too.

I'm so upset that everyone's getting upset at the mother. Leaving an abusive partner can be extremely difficult and for some people dangerous if they do it wrong. As for her telling Lisa to shut up, the mother is literally getting beat and watching a drunk man manhandle her baby. Lisa at that moment was not in immediate danger (she IS in danger but was in another room it sounded like, away from her dad) but her screaming might've annoyed or provoked the step dad to be more violent. I know that when I was a kid, our childlike screaming would just make my dad angrier, so I understand the mother trying to get her daughter to be quiet, but because she's panicking herself she's obviously not going to word it in exactly the best way. Some people forget that SHE'S a victim too. Don't blame the victim for her actions while she's panicked, and getting beat, and trying to get her baby back, and trying to deescalate her partner the best she could.

Lisa has said that she has called the police many more times therefore this isn’t the first or the tenth time this happens. So it isn’t the officers fault. They aren’t just sitting there waiting for their call. In my city our officers have all kinds of cities to patrol and can be 20 minutes away when called. People get likes because a woman doesn’t get the right sources and support to leave an abusive relationship. As a domestic violence survivor myself I can say it is very hard to leave. The terror for your kids is immense until you realize it is so much scarier to stay than to leave. The abuser is weak when they don’t have you scared and fragile.

I just read some more info on this call. Lisa is now grown and was in an abusive relationship of her own. Even though the police were called many times to this home and cps was involved in these children's lives they were never removed from this home and abusive situation. How on earth could the system fail these children and some many more.

You also have to think about the mom: She was afraid her child would get hurt along with their children. Pierre may hurt her mom when the police leave. (Same for if he gets caught and left prison). This is domestic violence and there could be hundreds of reasons way the mom told her to shut up.

Rather than to be upset with the abuser, people put all responsibility/accountability onto the victim, not realizing the victim is a shell of a person at this point, cannot think straight under any circumstance due to constant brainwashing and living in constant fear, and has EXTREMELY valid reasons for being scared for their own life and the lives of the children.

Follow Up: "The little girl on the other end of this 911 call is Lisa Floyd. During this call, she is in tears as she begs the dispatcher to send the police because her stepfather is beating her mother. Everything she says is horrifying to listen to and you can really feel the pain in her words. Fortunately for her, this wasn't the end of Lisa's story. Though, like many stories, things got worse before they got better. Years after this tape was first recorded, Kit Gruelle, who is an advocate for domestic abuse survivors, wondered what had happened to the little girl named Lisa. Kit was working for the police department and was able to use those resources to track her down. She found Lisa, but, unfortunately, Kit found her in her own abusive relationship. With Kit's help, Lisa was able to work her way out of it. It was around this time that Lisa found out about the tape. According to Field Education, Lisa vaguely remembers signing over rights to this 911 call audio recording to her, but she had no idea this tape would be "used to educate people about the effects of domestic violence on children." Even with years between her and the incident, Lisa is still not able to listen to the call and relive the events of that night. She does wonder why this particular recording has gotten so famous. She said she called the police hundreds of times when she was a young girl, and Child Protective Service (CPS) workers came out to her house at least twenty-three times. She and her siblings were never taken away. When she was younger, she didn't want to be taken away from her mother and was glad CPS never took her away, but, now that she can look back, she wishes they had. On the Children of Domestic Violence blog, Lisa shares her story and starts it all off with, "I’m Lisa, a survivor with a future, because of my past." She talks about the difficulty of growing up and how life continually tried to drag her down, "I started to believe I wasn’t worthy. I felt like a failure, destined for nothingness. I didn’t believe I could change my life or my situation." With these feelings, she moved into a relationship just to feel something, but it didn't take long before the relationship turned abusive. She put up with it for years, but was eventually able to break away. She attributes a lot of that to "people who have entered my life during this transition. The ones who took the time to encourage and nurture my growth." Near the end of her story she says, "My journey isn’t over - I still have many lessons to learn and obstacles to overcome. I’m just not afraid to take them on." I think it is important for people to remember. You aren't stuck where you are. You are simply facing an obstacle you need to overcome. With the help of people who care about you and your own belief that you have worth, you can survive." Source: Reddit User "Rofljason" quoting an "sfglobe" article that is not available anymore.
