I cannot thank you enough for putting out this video! I had to be switched off of Amlodipine a couple of years ago because it was causing my ankles to swell and I was switched to Lisinopril. Until seeing this video, I had never made the connection. Around the same time I started having tremendous and horrible stomach pain. Mornings were horrible, but I was in pain all day. It felt like I was digesting rocks. I went to a Gastro Dr. and she did all manner of tests and could only see irritation, but could not explain the reason for the onset of my pain. I was taking all kinds of stomach medicine and activated charcoal and eating a diet that consisted mostly of rice to avoid pain. She was treating me for IBS. This has gone on for about two years and I never made any connection with the Blood Pressure Medicine. I saw this video in Mid-April. I investigated and learned of intestinal angioedema, which Lisinopril can cause. I got my primary Dr. to change my BP med and he changed it to Losartan. My stomach is not all the way healed up yet, but I AM FEELING SO MUCH BETTER SINCE I GOT OFF THE LISINOPRIL! I feel like your video gave me a new lease on life. I can enjoy eating again! And though I still get some pain, it is manageable. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

@@ThinkYourHealth I am glad you put this out there. As patients, we are not told to watch for these side affects. My spouse, a friend and I all experienced exactly this, a dry cough, that continues day in and day out. Even after going of the medication the cough continues for quite some time. People need to listen to their bodies and be firm with their doctors on their conditions. I have a couple questions. 1, Is it common to also have breathing issues with Carvedilol too?. I seem to have issues with it, but I also have copd as well. Another thing I am curious about is if there is correlations to these medications and severity of covid?

@@jgunderson105 I HIGHLY recommend buying a recent Nursing Drug Reference book and a good medical dictionary. Both are a goldmine of information, especially the nursing drug reference. And, no matter what medications you take, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, read the printed information included with your meds. It will give a lot of information regarding side effects and other issues that may arise. My sister-in-law is a nurse and she gets so upset when she hears that people don't bother reading them.

I had been on lisinopril for over 10 yrs with no side effects. Then one day out of the blue I noticed a very slight numbness at my outer right lower lip, no swelling, no itch, no change in muscle tone. The numb feeling was very minimal. I went to my office for work, I'm a doc. When I arrived the feeling had not changed. However within 15 min of arriving I noticed the right side of my tongue felt heavy, slightly swollen. You can best believe THAT got my attention fast! One of my staff ran me to the nearest hospital ED. in under 20 minutes I was in full blown angioedema hearing myself go hoarse! This little adventure cost me 3 days in the ICU. I know this is a long comment, but I wanted to add to this piece, no matter how long you have been on any med, always be alert to any changes you feel especially if you think it is med related. Act fast!!!!!

It gave me not just a cough but a constant gagging sensation. I would snore incredibly loud and suddenly snort like apnea, wake up, and repeat this all night long. Even sometimes when eating I would start choking for 'no reason'. I was using Hall's lozenges almost constantly during the daytime. My doctor apparently never heard of the cough side effect. It wasn't until I was in the hospital for myocarditis that a doctor who knew diagnosed me correctly. I am so thankful for that. My life was miserable for about 3 years. I was miserable for a total year while taking Lisinopril. The coughing was absolutely horrible; it effected me doing my job (adjunct instructor), interrupted my daily routine and I avoided going to public places. I was given several different cough medications which did not help. I began losing weight when I would cough to the point of throwing up. A new doctor who was covering for my doctor while he was on vacation actually changed medications for me. Within 6 days the results were amazing! Good job at explaining this. The heart doctor I went to ( I fired him!) did not explain any of this to me before he prescribed this medication for me. The first day I took it I had bad stomach cramps and felt disassociated all day, so I called him and the nurse blamed it on something I ate. I read the side effects on the pharmaceutical paper before I called. I talked to the heart doctor that did my stress test the next day and she told me not to take it. I’ve also read there is cancer risk with long term use. Do your research.

It had been testing blood glucose for a few months because I wanted to see how low carbohydrate diet affected it. I got my a1C down to 4.6 and fasting glucose to 81. After a week, fasting glucose is now averaging 87. I was also on hydrochlorothiazide. Dosages were 20mg lisinopril and 25 mg for the hydro. Also found I couldn’t walk my typical 6 miles a day and developed low back pains when walking. Dr had me cut the pills in half. Great results followed. No back pain, and fatigue and BP went from 220/110 to 120/80. A few readings have actually been lower than that. 2 weeks on the reduced dosage, No side effects that I’m aware of. I’m 67.

Lisinopril was touted to me as a "wonder drug." After a couple of years on it at the lowest 5 mg level, I got the dry, scratchy cough. Then my internist decided my sugar levels meant I needed a double dose to "protect" my kidneys. So I've been taking 10 mg, my cough has turned into a big lump of phlegm that I can't get rid of, and my internist has never said anything about running new blood tests to check on kidney function since the dosage change over a year ago. I took Amlopodine and I was DOWN for a WHOLE YEAR. It causes INTENSE Muscoskeletal PAIN, and since I have CHRONIC PAIN ISSUES the Pain Management Doctor kept increasing the DOSAGE. Then my FEET and legs swelled up HUGE, the doctor told me I must go to the EMERGENCY ROOM. Instead I went home and typed in "Periphal Edema" and the FIRST THING that popped up was AMLOPODINE. I THREW IT AWAY, and in 48 HOURS the ordeal was OVER. Amlopodine is a Calcium Channell blocker and for ME anyway it is POISON!!! I will NEVER take another Calcium Channell Blocker again. Just one more heart drug I cannot take. They ALL make me sick. BB

@@bobburnitt5389 Maybe it was your poor spelling of AMLODIPINE causing the symptoms? I've been on it for over 15 years and never had a problem with it.

OMG! I thought I was dying. I coughed non-stop. I carried a giant bag of cough drops with me at all times and trying to sleep was miserable. My doctor took me off Lisinopril and withing two days the cough was gone. What misery!

I kept a bag of cough drops AND took dexamethoraphan to try to calm the cough enough to get to sleep. Miserable med!

When I started Lisinopril I became a big menace for my other family members with my continuous coughing whole night - it’s something if I missed my peaceful night sleep but giving trouble to everyone else even neighbours was very bad experience. It’s a nightmare

I had some of these same side effects with Enalapril. I coughed so much, I lost a job. People were afraid I had some dread disease. I had one Dr. say that any medication ending with "pril" will cause the coughing side effects especially if you have asthma.

After having a heart attack and the addition of a stint back in 1997, I was put on this medication and had no problems until this past December when I awoke one morning and my tongue was extremely swollen. Fortunately I had no problems breathing or choking. But as soon as my daughter took me to the emergency room at the hospital, the first thing the doctor asked me if I was on Lisinopril. I was immediately taken off that medication and was fine. The following week, however, I developed a numbing and swelling of my lips. The doctor said that there was still some trace of Lisinopril in my system that had not yet vanished. Since that time I have had no further reaction. It was indeed a scary situation, for the day that this all occurred, I thought maybe I was having a stroke.
