Lovely narrative of times past. I was a little confused about the cheery take on life in a workhouse. Somewhat circumspect about how well fed the inmates were. If they were indeed in this workhouse it would have been at odds with the general standards in workhouses of the time. Inspections by the BM show the general state to be very poor.
