Strangeways is my favorite album of all time but self-titled is amazing as well, it's so poignant, poetic, and atmospheric, and set such a strong starting point for The Smiths..

Ain't no way I'm blazed relaxing to Suffer Little Children, a song about murdered kids. "Over the moor, take me to the moor Dig a shallow grave And I'll lay me down Lesley-Anne, with your pretty white beads Oh John, you'll never be a man And you'll never see your home again Oh Manchester, so much to answer for Edward, see those alluring lights? Tonight will be your very last night A woman said: "I know my son is dead" "I'll never rest my hands on his sacred head""

Hahhaa yes. Still a calming song though. A ballad to children that have been taken from life far too young... beautiful song.

I like this album Aton, but it sickens me what the meaning behind “Suffer little children” is. (it’s based on the moor murders, a couple who would kidnap and murder children (12-17) and Burry the body’s on a piece of land called “saddleworth moor” (Myra Hindley and Ian Brady)

Pretty girls make graves is the best Smiths song and this album is by far the best.

My favorite song, the song I've listened to the most on Spotify, the one with the most emotional charge, where Morrisey tried the hardest, so underrated that I would cry. I was looking for someone like you.
@HitlerGaymes1236 ай бұрын
@@zwyxvs in The Queen Is Dead, Marr no longer performs his characteristic arpeggios melodies that counterpoint Morrisey angusty filled vocals and started playing ordinary basic strumming, Andy Rourke lines become simplistic and doesent assume the lead anymore like Pretty Girls Make Graves and Barbarism Begins at Home and Mike Joyce no longer performs the extraordinary turns that occasionally occurred on his debut album. Not to mention the lyrics, which gave up the dense literary content that ran through the debut album, with the enigmatic, melancholic and abstract lyrics of Morrisey, the anguished celibate, to instead write romantic j-unk and flood the album with other humorous lyrics. The experimental passages present in tracks like the falsetto of Miserable Lie, the ending of Pretty Girls Make Graves, the cries drowned in the mix of Suffer Little Children, and so on are no longer present... The Queen Is Dead is a safe and diluted album, Meat Is Murder a middle term. Nothing will be so full of angusty, doubt, regret and sorrow than the end of Pretty Girls Make Graves. Its the culmination of the most recondite humam dirty condition and contradictions, especially with the amazing Joe Dallesandro photo.

I can never listen to Suffer Little Children like that Incase people don’t know it based off of the Moors Murders back in the 1960s in Manchester when a few kids and a couple of teens were murdered and buried on the saddleworth moor Apparently Morrissey met one of the relatives of a dead victim and the relative was pissed off thinking he was taking the piss and Moz had to explain the purpose of why he released the song
