*VIDEO SPOILERS* so if you care about that, read after you watch the video! Okay, I’m still not even happy with the “update” that a filmed re: this album yesterday. I’ve continued to listen to the album and it’s growing more and more with every listen. I’m starting to differentiate the songs a bit more and my appreciation for the production has even increased. I think the struggle with this album comes from how complex it really is. Trying to digest it after one, two, three listens is nearly impossible. It’s so heavy, so dark, so deep, making it difficult to grasp. But again, as I continue to listen, the more I grow to love it. I believe as a full record, I am still going to say I prefer Born to Die but I could see that changing any day in the near future. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the video and I’m very much looking forward to Honeymoon. - caitlin 🌿

Endrit K. Yk Lana is not responsible for that tho right? You can easily change that tho like how just music changed you. I’m not saying this only to you. I’m saying this to all the people who’ve ended up on the wrong side of the track, cause some people say Lana is a bad influence cause she makes her fans become addicted to chemicals and shit while she never said to smoke or passed drugs out among her fans lol.

You: listen cruel world by lana Me: welcome to the psychodelic world of lana del rey💫 Fact 1: in ultraviolence lana is talking like she was in the skin of the girlfriend of Jim Morrrison (the doors). Fact 2: brookling baby its in my opinion one of her best songs, is her STATEMENT as an artist afert all the hate she recived, all the critic about her, because many critics call her "FAKE" She sings: "They say im to young to love you" - all the critics that cames out after she keeping writing songs about older mans, like she wasent free to write about whatever she wants. "They say i dont understand the freedom land of the 17s" How media criticized her for singing about these era, her influences about this decade, like she wasent free of writing about this decade and understand it just because she wasent born in it or if that turns her into a fake artist, just because she is singing about the past and she really born in other decade. "I'm talking about my generation Talking about that newer nation And if you don't like it You can beat it Beat it, baby You never liked the way I said it If you don't get it, then forget it So I don't have to fucking explain it" - she literally says, im talking about real things, I'm not glamorizing the abuse about anything, many womans have this problems, if you dont like it STOP TO LISTEN MY SONGS ITS NOT FOR YOU, LET ME BE. You dont like the perspective from the place i write my songs, you just dont listened it OK?

Born to die was the best opener for her, paradise was a cool touch, the vibes and cinema-like introduction to Lana was also good. I havent watch this yet but I know she is not going to like the sound as much, but will apreciate the lyrics and vocals. Honeymoon is going to be her favorite, but will have mixed feelings at first. She'll like lust for life at the first listen but not enough to be her favorite. She will think NFR is her favorite till she gives honeymoon a few listens. Idk why I just wrote that but knowing her ik guessing it will kinda go like this

@@kllrj08 the first time i actually listened to Lana, BTD was my absolute fav and now it's not even in my top 3 because both UV and Honeymoon have been growing on me ever since then. I have to say that UV is my fav now, but Honeymoon is a close second. They both are masterpieces. Anyway, i am very thankful of discovering Lana this quarantine because i finally get to Listen an artist whose songs don't ever get old, like I've only been listening to her lately and never get tired of her songs, wich is astonishing. Every single thing she creates is magic.

For those that think this album exploits domestic, physical and mental abuse you just don't understand and likely never have never been abused by a partner. As a survivor of physical abuse, manipulative mental and emotional torture from my ex husband, this album saved me. It showed me I wasn't alone, I wasn't crazy, and I am NOT damaged goods. Yes, yes! There are others like me, and this girl (Lana) is singing my song! It is like you are caught in a sort of limbo, listening to her and watching her and feeling that pain all over again, is MY medicine!! You know how crazy that sounds?? Yeah. I do too. But it's real. It's here. And I'm feeling it all over again. And the more I feel it, the more I HEAL. Thank you Lana for HEALING me and helping me to step into my own power. There's so much more........

I think people confuse written, lived experiences that work into art as a form of glorification. Artists writing, singing, performing the things they’ve lived through is a tale as old as time and isn’t new to any realm of theatre, songwriting, or storytelling. Glorification comes more in the form of how someone likes or loves something and endorses or praises it.

Additional information for this album: "cruel world" is a conversation between Lana and her older self lizzy grant. "Money, power, glory" is a "fuck you" to her haters and the media because that is what they were saying about her so she took it, flipped it and made a song out of it. "Fucked my way to the top" is a diss track aimed at an artist who said that about her, again she took it and sarcastically made a song out of it. "old money" is lana Reminiscing about her childhood. "the other woman" is a Nina Simone cover. "pretty when I cry" was freestyled. And finally this whole album was recorded in one sitting. (Saw this comment thought it was helpful for first time Lana listeners)

i have never cried about a boy to a album or a song before but sis in 2017 when my ex broke up with me for the first time (one of many 😅) i turned on ultraviolence and sobbed 😅😭 then west coast comes on & i’m dancing while crying then sad girl comes on and i’m crying then Money Power Glory comes & Fucked my way up to the top comes on and i’m in that bad bitch mentality then old money comes on and BAM 😭😤 overall this album is iconic and deep and dark and hauntingly beautiful and it’s the best to listen to during fall but especially during winter idk why but it just gives me winter vibes maybe because winter is dark cold and creepy ( Snowy roads at nights with the streetlights on is such a horror movie vibe idk why it just is) and also beautiful it matches the album also my depression is the WORST during winter 😅

Min 14:57 The title song "pretty when you cry" is her boyfriend telling her that. Is about her boy whos control her, she is in a abusive relationship, her boyfriend manipulates her psychologically so he tells her something like (its an interpretation of the context): Im doing what i want with you, you have to do what i want, and if make you cry, babe, dosent worry, is not bad, because you are pretty when you cry, soo i will do what I want no matter if it hurts you and I make you cry - manipulation. In a relationship where she is being MANIPULATED she BELIEVES what he is saying y she acceps all the shit from him soo for that reason she sings en el chorus" because im pretty when i cry", is the manipulated Lana whos sings this part.

Ultraviolence is an album that’s gonna become one of your favorites the more you listen! Because wow! Born To Die is an album I feel like people fall in love with right away and get mesmerized not expecting Lana to sound that way.But overall I don’t think both albums can be comparable in sound since they are so different it’s just depends on people’s taste. I think once you hear all of Lana’s work your mind will change on your top albums. I personally always go up and down on what albums I like more cause each one hits different at different times! But again lyrics, vocals, sound and storytelling was all there and so heartbreakingly beautiful! Lana’s music is something else entirely!! It’s an experience of its own!!!

Ultraviolence really grows on you. I first listened to it when I was a freshman in high school. I hated most of it except for a few songs (Brooklyn Baby, Shades of Cool, Pretty When You Cry). To me, those songs resonated with her old albums the most. I felt like I lost the “old Lana” in Ultraviolence and was extremely disappointed; to me her music style changed a lot and all the songs sounded the same. As time went on I started listening to it more often, and I really don’t know what it is about Lana’s music, but I feel like you just need to get used to it because her vocals and her instrumentals are so unique and unlike anything you’ve ever listened to before. Flash forward a few years, my favorite album is now Ultraviolence. There’s just something about it. It’s so dark and seductive, yet the feelings in it are so raw and unfiltered. It really brings out all of these feelings of grief, sadness, and nostalgia you never even knew you had. Each song in Ultraviolence is like a sad story, with the moral being that no matter how much you love someone, you are bound to get hurt. The price of love is pain.

Ultraviolence is such a masterpiece even in songs like Brooklyn baby, cruel world, and like in West Coast when she says *I’m in love, I’m in love* This album is just so dark and powerful it’s like they’re happy lyrics but it almost feels like she’s trying her best to feel happy. She’s singing it in a way where she’s trying to make herself believe it because happiness isn’t really there. She’s singing happy lyrics but all you feel is pain. 10/10 album honestly.

When I first listened to Ultraviolence I was not a fan. I was so used to the more cinematic and upbeat sound on Born to Die that Ultraviolence was such a big contrast and I didn’t really enjoy it. But since then it has become my absolute favorite Lana album . It takes a few listens in different scenarios but it went from being one of my least favorite albums of hers to my favorite album of all time. But as someone who didn’t like the album at first, I can totally understand someone not really feeling it as much as say Born to Die especially on their first few listens. It’s really dark lol
