Arrau was born to play Lizt masterpieces. His hands are like a hummingbird flying over the keyboard .

I remember meeting him backstage in San Francisco and Fresno in the early 80s. He wore a black velvet cape after the concert. He greeted me warmly, and his handshake was both warm and powerful. A treasure to the piano repertoire.

About a decade ago I wandered the Villa d'Este ... listening to this rendition of "Les jeux d'eaux à la Villa d'Este" on a MP3 player. Absolutely magical. It was an honor to walk through the villa and gardens where Liszt created some of this music. Then I wandered the Villa Adriana below, and a thunderstorm hit, reminding me of the darker "Aux Cypres De La Villa D'Este # 1 & 2." Still magical.

Liszt should be listed with the greats as he is one of the greatest as a composer and a performer.He was ahead of his time and was a pupil of czerny.

En esta entrega, no vemos las manos de Claudio Arrau, acariciando las teclas con sus dedos estirados que producen tanto los sonidos fuertes cuanto los suaves, que vienen determinados, unos y otros, por una especie de energía interior que fluye de todo su cuerpo y se transmite al instrumento. Arrau fue calificado como un un enciclopedista del piano, pues estudiaba las piezas dentro del contexto de la obra de cada autor y ubicaba a este dentro del contexto de su época.. Las interpretaciones que Arrau hizo de las obras de Lizt están en la cúspide de la pianística de todos los tiempos. Poquísimos son los pianistas que se le han aproximado tocante a Lizt , Quizá el más próximo sea Jerome Rose. Gracias a On The Top of Darmavand for ever por entregarnos esta joya de la discografía pianística. Un saludo afectuoso desde Chile, la tierra en que nació Arrau.

Liszt was such an amazing composer. I feel like his name isn't listed along with the greats when it should be. I guess maybe I've had the wrong music teachers.

Franz Liszt é um excelsíssimo e estupendíssimo compositor e Arrau um seu avatar! Para roubar uma frase minha preferida de Stendhal, é "sensation céleste" pura!

Estoy de acuerdo en eso. Probablemente Arrau no estudió los tres ciclos completos sino ciertas partes que le agradaban personalmente. Como tampoco la obra completa de Harmonías poéticas y religiosas.

Вы знаете, всё познаётся только в сравнении. Главное теперь в условиях технического прогресса и нестабильной всё ускоряющейся жизни сохранить свою единичность и уникальность, это относится не только к людям искусства, но к ним в первейшую очередь. Возможно и сейчас кто-то так может исполнять, но нормой становится другое. Жизнь упрощается и оптимизируется в сторону лёгкости отношения ко всему и комофрта
