Edge did “pay” at the time, he was given tons of abuse too, I think the issue they are taking about is that Lita still does. Edge and Lita did immediately admit they handled it badly and apologised to Matt but Matt chose to abuse them on the Internet and literally encouraged his fans to harass them. That got missed in the pity parade for him in 2005. He also filmed himself committing acts of disturbing violence on a Lita cut out. He said he hoped Edge died on live TV. His brother said he was controlling. That is not to say they handled it right but Matt was not innocent. Another couple of things - Edge, at the time, was used to being a heel and used to taking massive heat of fans so was probably in a better place to utilise it, it was genuinely a new experience for Lita and Edge is by far a more confident performer in terms of outside the ring. Secondly, we have watched Edge and Matt grow and move on, we’ve seen them date, marry and have children with their wives whereas Lita has been a lot more out of the public eye for fans to see her “moving on” story, the prevalent memory of her is still then because she’s not as in the public eye. But yeah, nobody should have been interested then, it was a personal situation and everyone should drop this shit now, everyone involved got over it a long time ago
