additional information: Hindi lang po ung lack of an internal cannon or gun ang reason qng bakit natatalo ang mga American F-4s laban sa mga Vietnamese Migs nung Vietnam war. according to a US Navy study between 1965 to 1968 called the Ault Report conducted by Captain Frank Ault. the Main issue was the lack of ACM (air combat maneuvering) training sa mga F-4 pilots. Yes technically the F35 is the most advance fighter bomber of the USA in terms of avionics, sensor suite and possibly even stealth capabilities, however in terms of rate of climb, speed, payload capacity and specially maneuverability the F22 is significantly better than the F35. But these fighter jets are designed with different roles, the F22 is more of a air superiority fighter, while the F35 is meant to do a lot of things, hence the A,B,C varaints. It was designed to replace the A-10 (close-in support), the harrier as a jumpjet for the marines to be used on their amphibious assult ships, F16s (for the airfoce), F18s (for the US navy carrier complement fighters), but its highlight feature is its stealth characteristics that enables it to penetrate enemy air defense (SAMS) and even neutralise enemy aircrafts at long distance without engaging them in a dogfight. However these advantages that the F35 have might soon be surpassed by the F22 because of the integration of the F35 avionics and as well as integrating a newer sensor and avionics to the F22 as a part of the US 6th generation fighter development.

The F-22 is better for airsuperiority. Its faster, more maneuverable, flies higher, has a larger active radar and carries more missiles. But the F-22 cannot: 1. Hit moving targets on the ground or at sea 2. Carry anything larger than 1000 lbs bombs. 3. Carry cruise missiles 4. Detect targets via infrared or optically. 5. Travel as far as the F-35 6. Guide laser guided bombs 7. hunt surface to air missiles that have their radars turned off. 8. Carry anti radiation missiles All of these things are capabilities the F-35 excels in In short the F-35 is better in every other mission except for air superiority.

supermaneuverability is almost useless in modern day aerial combat. and i dont think modern aircrafts are heavily oriented to close dog fights since everyone now utilizes long range missiles. and no the f35 can still be an air superiority aircraft with all of its sensors and long ranged weapons. and who knows. with MADL maybe the f35 can intercept anything within its radar range.

@@asntv5644 The F-35 was not “primarily designed to dogfight”. But that doesn’t mean it can’t dogfight. The design of the F-35 was to have F-16 like energy maneuverability and F/A-18 like high alpha performance, if it ever finds itself in a dogfight. This combined with high off boresight targeting is more than enough for it to win any dogfight. Here is some first hand accounts: Lt Col Ian ‘Gladys’ Knight divulged a little more information about flying basic fighter maneuvers (BFM) in an F-35. ‘When our envelope was cleared to practise BFM we got the opportunity to fight some fourth-generation fighters. Remember, back then the rumors were that the F-35 was a pig. The first time the opponents showed up [in the training area] they had wing tanks along with a bunch of missiles. I guess they figured that being in a dirty configuration wouldn’t really matter and that they would still easily outmaneuver us. By the end of the week, though, they had dropped their wing tanks, transitioned to a single centerline fuel tank and were still doing everything they could not to get gunned by us. The F-35 is the MOST advanced fighter jet there is today. Period. The reason why they never sold the F-22 was because of the fall of the USSR. When you’re the sole superpower of the 21st century, there really is no sort of justification to procure nor sell huge amounts of advanced fighter jets. Even then, the F-22 Raptor has a different role compared to the F-35. First of all, the F-35 is a JSF, a Joint Strike Fighter. By its name, it is made to be exported and shared amongst allies due to its software which allows the sharing of information in real time.

F-22 is mainly for Air Superiority while F-35 are MRF, Tska di talaga intended as Air superiority ang F-35 dahil naglalack ito ng Supermaneuverability and speed, (max. mach 1.6) pero bumawi naman ang f-35 sa electronics and avionics.. it can lock on targets na di kailangan itutok ang nose sa kalaban and can Jam the enemy aircrafts and other assets.

Hehe advance pinaguusapan kadalasan kung ano ang pinakahuling ginawa ay yon ay mas advanced kasi pwedeng iupdgrade ang luma para mas maging advanced. Sa case ni F-22 at F-35 ay tyak mas advanced si F-35.

Maganda sa pilipinas f-35a kasi para sa dogfight kung kailangan at wala ng missile kasi kung madaming eroplano ang kalaban kung wala ng missile at mahal ang missile keysa bala ng rotary cannon kaya da best ang f-35 A tsaka nalang ang f-35 b or lalo na yung f-35 c kasi wala pa tayong aircraft carrier kaya sa sunod nalang yan.

Kaya naman ng Pilipinas na makabili ng F-35 A, F-35 B, at F-35 C. Ang rason kung bakit d kaya natin makabili yan ay dahil sa kakulangan ng bugdet. Puwede pa tayo makabili nyan kung itataas ang bugdet ng AFP Modernization Program Horizon 3 sa mga trilyon piso.
