Crazy to think that humans actually got caught in these traps and had to go through that, way out in a jungle on the other side of the globe from their home. I was watching a special on the Vietnam war recently where they were interviewing soldiers from both sides this many years after the war. The Vietnamese soldiers said they had no idea why America was attacking them and they were fighting because they thought the Americans had come to kill them all. Many Vietnamese soldiers still didn't know what the war was being fought for even today. We were being told the Vietnamese soldiers were fighting because they were trying to spread communism. The Vietnamese said that was untrue and they were just fighting because they were being attacked and didn't know what else to do. America constantly lies to start wars. Like when we destroyed Iraq over weapons of mass destruction they didn't have. Scary to know we live in a country that constantly starts wars based on lies and can just send you to fight and die in those wars whenever they want.

As the vietnamese myself, this is true, we just want to live in freedom and harmony. China then france then japan invade and make us suffer for a long long time, so we just need something different to liberate ourselves, so communism is the only way. But we're different from china or Russian, HCM send letter to USA before they invaded us said "we want to be friend" but the final USA decision createted Vietnam war which USA said :"to stop spread of communist" but then what? They shakehand with China in 1970s to cooperation fighting again Vietnam. Then what the purposes of Vietnam War?

A common signal that many Vietcong used not only in trap marking but also inteligent signal is the V symbol which stand for Vietnam. They often are a rock cut to triangle shape, a 2 branch tree or a deer antles. They don't have a static meaning, sometime they mean "careful trap here", other time they are "this path is safe". To fully understand the V they gave it a context to get the meaning. For example, if the V point north it mean a safe mark, if it point south mean dangerous mark. If V point to a big tree mean hideout near. If V point to a water source like stream, small pond or if V being cut, broke mean this is the way US went. They even choose color for the V rock to diffirentiate between bad and good, black stone has negative meaning and opposite.

There are many types of traps that you don't know much about, such as traps with dung placed on the mine. If you want to remove them, you must use your bare hands. Of course, after removing them you will find a nearby lake to clean them, but unfortunately that lake also has traps

Actually Vietnam War was a Civil War between North Vietnamese Commie terrorists and freedom loving South Vietnamese citizens, just like Korean War was a Civil War between North Korean Commie terrorists and freedom loving South Korean citizens. Do you know that during Geneva Peace Accord 1954, nearly 1 million North Vietnamese citizens fled to the Republic of South Vietnam to escape Communist atrocities in North Vietnam where Commie Chinese puppet Ho Chi Minh were slaughtering 2 millions North Vietnamese citizens to rob their lands and homes as part of his deadly land-reform (1953-1956), modeled after similar land-robbing massacres by his fellow Commie butchers Mao in Commie China, and Lenin/Stalin in Soviet Union? War is influenced by more than just military might. US essentially fought both world Commie giants Soviet and China at once while being restricted by its own self-imposed rule of engagement in the frontline and impacted by anti-war movement by liberals (the likes of libtards like Jane Fonda who later apologized) at home. It wasn't a fair fight, but US's goodwill was in action to prevent Commie's taking over Asia. US saved South Korea and Japan in Asia, and Western Europe in Europe (and later Eastern Europe, too, when Soviet bloc collapsed. People from those countries are still grateful for American sacrifices until these days. Vietnam was a more complicated combat theater mostly due to its porous border in the western part. A geographically long country (S shaped) with a porous border along its side is recipe for disaster for any expeditionary forces due to infiltration. It's like you were already being surrounded even before the war started. Korea didn't have this problem, as the peninsula is only bordered by Commie China in the North, and the rest is surrounded by water. North Vietnamese Commie terrorists knew this and exploited the advantage with their Ho Chi Minh trail, without which, South Vietnam could still exist like South Korea today, largely due to American intervention. The US soldiers did it for good cause, and that's all that matters. It's an unfortunate consequence happened when US cut aids to the Republic of South Vietnam while both Commie giants Chinese and Soviet increased aids to their North Vietnamese terrorist minions, it wouldn't take a genius to predict the outcome.

There is a fact that American soldiers are smart enough to recognize the types of traps used in the video above. Over time, they will understand the operating principles and how to identify them. However, the main effectiveness of these traps, firstly, is psychological, and secondly, and more importantly, they make the march slower and more difficult. They make the goals the soldiers aim for not easy to achieve or impossible to achieve. The longer they stay in the jungle, the longer they are in the field, the greater the danger that awaits them, such as epidemics and prolonged rainy seasons. That is, in fact, even more terrifying than the traps themselves.

IEDs became more popular in Afghanistan because the taliban realized they couldn't kill American troops wearing level 4 armor. No AK rounds could defeat the armor, so American troops kept getting back up after being shot. When you look at American deaths later on in Afghanistan, you'll see more fatalities to IEDs.

America & South Korea were ally to south Vietnam. China & Russia were ally to communist north Vietnam. Communism was colonizing nations in attempt at global domination. America, South Korea, even some Australian troops were deployed upon request of Democratic South Vietnam to help South Vietnam defend it's freedom from totalitarian Communism. Most Americans didn't want to go to Vietnam to fight North Vietnam Communists but a government imposed draft was created that forced the majority of American troops sent to assist the South Vietnamese in their civil war against Communist aggression. Politics forced the southern Vietnamese allies to withdraw and Many South Vietnamese were executed by the Communist North Vietnamese. . .Many South Vietnamese also fled Vietnam as refugees, to escape being murdered by Communist North Vietnamese. My cousin married a Vietnamese man who escaped Communism in Vietnam. Lots of Americans, South Korean and Australian Soldiers suffered for defending their South Vietnamese Allies from Communist North Vietnamese, Chinese and Soviet Aggression. After the Vietnam Civil War many South Vietnamese escaped to western countries where their children later joined western militaries to defend against the communism that had destroyed their families and their motherland.

American Soldiers have since fought guerillas & narco-terrorists in the jungles of Nicaragua, Panama, Columbia and el Salvador where these same traps were employed by narco-terrorists against Soldiers but American Soldiers learned from Vietnam civil war how to spot these sort of traps and disable them. . .So they were not much effect. The problem is that foreign allies often demand American military assistance w/their internal strife and to maintain friendly relations w/these allies the USA must loan American military soldiers to either train foreign allies or to fight the enemies of foreign allies. Most Americans do not agree with this policy and do not want their young men fighting for foreign allies but the U.S. government is corrupt and doesn't heed the voice of the majority of Americans. . .as most governments in the world do not honor the voice of the majority of it's people. Nevertheless, America has been fighting in jungle wars ever since Vietnam but just like Vietnam they're civil wars within allied countries that American Soldiers get deployed as advisors and augmentation troops. . .Mostly in Latin American Jungles. . .Some have been in African jungles to fight terrorist guerillas. Every conflict and war that American Soldiers have been deployed to since WW2 was at the demand of assistance from foreign allies facing Communist Aggression , Narco-Terrorism or Islamic terrorism. Until 9/11 , when Al Qaeda Islamic terrorists provoked war and American Soldiers were deployed to rid Afghanistan of Al Qaeda and pursue them to Iraq. . .After every Al Qaeda leader on the terrorist list involved w/the 9/11 attack was eliminated , after Afghanistan was rebuilt better and it's people given a U.S. trained military defense force, the American military returned home. . .because, unlike Islamic Jihadi, colonization was never the goal of American troops being deployed to hunt Al Qaeda terrorists responsible for 9/11 in Afghanistan & Iraq. After mission was accomplished, Al Qaeda leaders responsible for 9/11 were captured or killed, American Soldiers returned home, and in comical fashion the Towelban returned from hiding in Pakistan, seized Afghanistan by force and declared victory. America was never interested in colonizing Afghanistan nor Iraq. Only in getting every Al Qaeda terrorist responsible for 9/11, which is exactly what American forces did before going home after rebuilding any cities destroyed by American military in battles against Al Qaeda Terrorists. Had Sadam Hussein not given shelter to Al Qaeda terrorists involved in 9-11 attack on America , Iraq would've never been invaded and his regime would still be in power. . . But he publicly declared sanctuary to Al Qaeda terrorists involved in 9-11 and challenged the U.S. military to try and get them in Iraq. But to answer your comment, American troops have successfully fought plenty in Latin American Jungles against narco terrorists & Marxist terrorists since the Vietnam civil war.

It was never a U.S.A. war. It was a Vietnam Civil War that America got pulled into by South Vietnam Ally. America & South Korea were ally to south Vietnam who requested support against Communist North Vietnam and their Soviet Union & Communist China allies whom bullied Capitalist South Vietnam. Politics forced the southern Vietnamese allies to give up fighting so American & South Korean allies went home as well. Many South Vietnamese were then tortured, raped and murdered by the Communist North Vietnamese. . .Many South Vietnamese also fled Vietnam as refugees, to escape being murdered by Communist North Vietnamese after the allies went home. Communists always revise history. Claiming American invaders attack all innocent Vietnamese people. It was south Vietnamese whom request American help against communist north Vietnamese in their civil war. . .Because communist north Vietnamese were torturing, raping and murdering south Vietnamese villages to force submission to Communist NVA through terror.

And it doesn't compare to the thousands of South Vietnamese Capitalists tortured, raped and murdered by Communist North Vietnamese. Don't revise history. It was a civil war between Communist North Vietnamese vs Capitalist South Vietnamese and American, South Korean and Australian Soldiers were only deployed as allies to help defend their South Vietnamese Ally against the aggression of the Communist North Vietnamese and their Soviet Russian & Communist China allies. And let's not forget, all the tortures, rapes and murders on both sides during the war were horrific but after the war when the communists seized power they tortured, raped and genocided all the South Vietnamese whom opposed communism. Resulting in more deaths than during the war. And thousands of South Vietnamese fled on boats to escape the Communist North Vietnamese evil but many suffered rape & death on the sea from both North Vietnamese Communists & Pirates. Don't revise history. It wasn't America vs Vietnam. It was Communist North Vietnam and Soviet Allies & Communist Chinese bullying the Capitalist South Vietnamese people whom asked for American help to defend South Vietnam from Communist North Vietnam. . .It was a civil war.
