@@alex-p Only 5mg of elemental lithium per night. Tried morning and night but made me tired during the day! Just go slow and be patient. Start at night for 2 weeks, if you feel it's not working... add on half a split tablet in the morning for a couple weeks and see how you feel. It's best to start low!!!

I am 32 years old. I was on depakote for a short while, then was switched to lithium for a number of years, starting at age 16 and ending at 19. It's been 13 years since I have taken any kind of prescription medication. I have honestly been suffering greatly and my motivation to do anything is really the cause. I drank alcohol heavily for most of the last 10 years but have not had a drink in over a year. I quit caffeine 2 months ago and quit marijuana a month ago. I am trying everything to get my life back on track. The lithium I used to be prescribed really made a huge difference in my life but I got scared of the long term side effects. I stumbled upon lithium orotate just recently and have decided to give it a try. Thank you for the informative explanation. I have pretty severe manic depression and experience with lithium so I have decided to start at the 20mg elemental dosage. I will be back in a few weeks time to give an update on progress, if there is any at all.

Thanks for sharing. Lithium doesn’t work for everyone but if you are one of the ones that it works well for I would highly recommend taking the low dose lithium orotate. At 10-20 mg it may not be as strong as the high dose lithium carbonate but it can definitely deliver significant positive effects and without the risks associated with the high dose carbonate. My next video on living Well will Bipolar should be posted in about 5 weeks.

You communicate your thoughts clearly with great punctuality. Thank you for taking the time to share information! I have ADHD along with depression and memory problems (I’m only in my 20s) I started taking magnesium glycine then added lithium, and now I’m stacking MSM. My symptoms are improving and next I’m going to add zinc. My plan is to keep adding minerals to figure out which ones I’m deficient in and watch as my symptoms improve. Cheers!

The problem with magnesium threonate is it’s so expensive. I cover the exact numbers but let’s say for example it was 3 times better absorbed into the brain but 10 times the price of say citrate it’s cheaper to take 3 times the magnesium citrate, this also delivers therapeutic doses to the rest of the body.

I am generally a skeptic of most supplements, because I have taken many of them with little to no effect. However, I will speak as a proponent of Lithium Orotate. When I am depressed, stressed, agitated or anxious which happens sometimes, and can be quite bad. I take 5mg of LiO and within about two to three hours, the bad effects of those things have mostly abated where I am back to normal. It is rather fascinating and a lifesaver. I am going to try some of your recommendations for increasing neuroplasticity and get my brain back to 100%.

@NaturalMentalHealthTreatments
@NaturalMentalHealthTreatments Жыл бұрын
The first things I would think of are: are you adequately hydrated? It’s really important to be very well hydrated, lithium orotate is somewhat dehydrating, unless you maintain good hydration every day you can get some side-effects; since I’ve been on lithium orotate every time I get dehydrated, I get a dehydration headache. The second thing is that you may just be going through an adjustment phase, I started with a quarter tablet, i.e. 1.25 mg and then doubled every week all the way up to 10 mg a day when I tried starting with 10 mg today, I felt emotionally flat, had shaky hands and somewhat headachy. Another thing I would look at is what is the rest of your diet like, are you supplementing a multi vitamin, magnesium, or you vitamin D deficient et cetera. And finally, it may be that lithium orotate just doesn’t suit your metabolism, and it’s not for you.

Hi, going vegan with bipolar is not a good idea. The most nutrients for the brain are coming from animal food. Search for "Carnivore success stories " here on youtube. So I would recomend you a healthy ketogenic diet with lots of meat, eggs and vegetables and low carbohydrates. Also research the WimHof Breathing Method its extremely effective

@@NaturalMentalHealthTreatments fantastic and I have subbed, I took my first lithium orotate two hours ago and in 45 minutes I realized my whole system calmed down, not groggy just different. Shock to the system in a good way. Took a salt bath to get some magnesium, profound as well then. I will continue 5 mg am and pm and will note the results. I have been near suicide just to stop the impending doom I felt for so long. This gives me hope, I have counseled many myownself and persuaded them not to go the prescription route. Valerian root is also effective in pure form, hard to find though. Insomnia excaserbates depression and excitabily. I sometimes go a week without sleep and it is maddening and one can't function. At 55 its a killer when the depression hits , I was working 60 hrs a week hard physical and couldn't sleep unless alcohol. Either way a losing proposition. Many thanks

@@mountaintruth1deeds533 That is great news :-) actually only about 30-40% of people respond to lithium but for those that do, it can be like a miracle medicine. If you get any tremor in your hands or feeling a little bit wobbly just pull back on the dosage for a week and then go back up to let your body get used to it. One of the great features about lithium is that it progressively restores healthy neuroplasticity over a very long time. For me for the first 2 years I took lithium every 6 months I would look back and realise I have better mental health than 6 months ago, after about 2 years it plateaued and I stopped noticing progressive benefits but by continuing to take it I retained the benefits it produced. A positive response to lithium may indicate that either inflammation negative neuroplasticity which is related to inflammation of playing a role in your depressions. I'll be saying a lot about inflammation and neuroplasticity in the coming weeks and months on my channel. The brain is so much more repairable than we ever used to think it was before even though you have been ill with depression for a long time does not mean that it is not possible for you to recover :-)

@@NaturalMentalHealthTreatments Thank you for all your work in alternative treatments for treating depression. I am suffering with depression. Had it for three years (unknowingly) before my symptoms started to worsen and, I had a major depressive episode and, was forced to seek help. After this happened I realised I have chronic depression with worsening symptoms. I refused to take any pharmaceutical medicines because I am a pharmacist and, I know how these medicines work and the impact they have on your physiology. I prefer not to take any pharmaceuticals if I don't have to and, luckily I am in good health otherwise so I don't have to. I decided to try the alternative treatment known as SAM-e to treat my depression. Do you know if this is a good treatment for depression or not? At the same time I started an intensive exercise regimen (20 minute HIIT sessions 3 times a week and weight training 4 to 6 times a week) and, a strict protein based diet that incorporated only good carbohydrates and fats. From this I have experienced good improvements in my symptoms in that my energy levels increased to the point where I can do all my necessary daily activities and my concentration levels also greatly approved. However, I still lack enjoyment or pleasure in the activities I used to find enjoyable or pleasurable before my depression. So I still have very intense anhedonia which has not improved despite my interventions so far. I also still lack motivation. I was doing the exercise (for 18 months) because I enjoyed doing it and, found I was getting really good at it but, even with feeling this way my motivation to continue exercising was starting to diminish. Now with the gyms being forced to close because of the Corona virus, I stopped exercising altogether and, have no motivation to continue to do so at home. I am also finding now, since I am at home mostly due to lockdown in SA, I am lacking in energy to get much done. Even though I have made major improvements in treating my depression so far, I feel that I have never been able to get back the person I used to be before my depression started. Having found your channel, I think it's because I have not managed to get to the root cause of my depression which I think is silent inflammation. I am definitely going to try out some of your alternative treatments that you recommend. With my type of unipolar depression which is of a very low depressive nature marked with severe anhedonia, lack of energy and lack of motivation what are the best treatments that you would recommend? And, do you know if it will be safe to take them while taking SAM-e? I would be grateful for any information that you are able to assist with. Thank you.

Dear Peter, Your explanation on neuroplasticity and lithium is a wow for me. Finally, I believe I have found the answer for so many years of suffering. Your explanation makes so much more sense then just telling us we don't have enough this or that and learning how low doses of lithium has the potential of reversing the harmed synapses is giving athan hope. In Israel there is no insetinol and they don't know what NAC or tirane is... Do they have other names? Are they very important in coming out of depression? What boosts dopamine formation? Thanks so much. As soon as I'm able I will make with you, All the best, Dvorah
@NaturalMentalHealthTreatments
@NaturalMentalHealthTreatments 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I'm glad you found the video helpful. The new understanding of what causes depression is more a loss of synaptic connections than a deficiency of neurotransmitters inside the synapses and the good news is that synapses can be stimulated to regrow. I don't know other names for inositol or NAC cysteine or taurine, sorry I can't help you with the translation. There are lots of things we can do to boost dopamine formation and also encourage the regrowth of dopaminergic synapses, hourly talking a lot about dopamine in my forthcoming videos on bipolar depression.

I can’t stand depakote. I would rather suffer with Bipolar than take it ever again! Lithium Citrate worked almost immediately for me, but I gained 80 lbs, which made my musculoskeletal problems and lipedema disabling. I was miserable, after tapering off it, but can hardly walk, much less do my necessary exercises and physical therapy. I started lithium orotate this month, and 5 mg did help right away, but I am sleepy. It also didn’t last all day. I backed off to 1.25 mg, twice a day, with mania depression and mixed agitation occurring (I have Bipolar 1 Rapid Cycling). I’m moving up to 2.5 mg, twice a day, today. Then, will possibly add a bit more at night. I hope I can move the whole dose to night. That worked best for me with lithium citrate. My 19 year old cat has had chronic kidney failure for 4 years (due to dental disease…we couldn’t do anasthesia to remove the teeth because of his cardiomyopathy), and has developed hyperthyroidism. It’s a very common disease effect of lithium toxicity, and I don’t want to suffer like my poor little buddy, in the future. I had issues with addiction, which I was able to beat with the lithium citrate, which was a good trade, at the time. I’m hoping to do better by my body with natural lithium! I hope you are helped by it, as I have been. I does, for me, what the pharmaceutical version did…I think I just have to find the right dose for balance. Good luck! 🍀

Great videos! I quit caffeine 18 months ago and have had terrible withdrawals. Doesn’t happen with everyone- the same way not everyone experiences benzo wd, but man has it been challenging. I’m healing, but slowly… dizziness, heart palpitations, irrational thoughts, major anxiety, exhaustion, depression, lack of joy and motivation, hair loss, the list goes on. I can’t workout, but I can walk further than last year, so I try and look for the improvements. I feel like it’s been equivalent to an adrenal crash. Around my 4 month mark I had a hair mineral analysis test and my lithium was a 0.004😳, reference range being 0.007-0.020… I bought lithium orotate months ago but was scared to take it. The only thing I can handle is magnesium glysinate, but I feel like I’ve healed enough to handle it now. Thankful to not be on any prescription meds (so I appreciate your natural approach). I’ve just been taking it easy because people in the caffeine group I’m in say it just takes time, that they tried everything and time healed them. They’re now 💯, feeling good at 2 years and really good by 2.5, and some do take 3 years, but after that, it’s just continued improvements but no more major symptoms. It’s been a crazy journey and I know it’s all about inflammation, gut health and balanced neurotransmitters. I wonder if my low lithium has always been a problem and that’s why I went for high amounts of caffeine and alcohol (quit that too) but to note… I’ve quit alcohol many times before (a year at a time) and never had withdrawals like when I quit caffeine. I now know there’s a difference between addiction and dependency. I’m now aware I’m very sensitive to caffeine but ultimately I got hooked at a young age, consuming cokes and chocolate, then my addiction just grew over time- tea, coffee, energy drinks- needing it to function. Thank you so much for ALL of your wonderful info! Cheers from Houston, TX.

I also had tinnitus, digestion issues, I bit my nails, I had nervous underarm sweats… all gone. Things I thought were just me, just life. I thought I needed it too, and essentially we do because if we go without it we start withdrawal, and we feel bad and we’re definitely tired, but it’s temporary… just gotta go through months of healing first. It takes time to heal but we do heal. It’s been worth it for me, because now I’m free of the drug that caused years of unknown issues. I’m grateful.

The blood test range for lithium appears to be geared for managing the correct therapeutic dose and avoiding toxicity. Has anyone seen the lithium range for un-treated people? In particular it would be nice to know the normal range for people in regions with moderate amounts of lithium in drinking water. This might be useful for micro-dosing lithium for general health (not for a specific therapeutic use).

Mostly I deal with anxiety disorders and panic disorder, some depression (it ebbs and flows), and dissociation/derealisation. I feel like I probably have major degeneration in my brain. I survive, but every day feels hard. I have had a very hard week; suicidal thoughts, self harm, rumination of negative/harmful thoughts. During all of this, a voice, from outside of myself, but inside of my head, said quite plainly “Lithium, you need to take lithium.” I have very little knowledge on lithium, so I began researching. In which has brought me to a couple of your videos. I am going to purchase lithium orotate and inositol, and begin these and see how I go. I want to be able to see a practitioner such as yourself, but I don’t know where to begin (I am in Australia). Anywa, I rambled, but I just wanted to thank you for sharing your knowledge and educating us on these important supplements. Thank you.

Thank you so much for this information. It’s incredibly helpful. Do you have any experience with clients taking lithium when pregnant? I am finding lithium very helpful for my anxiety-induced depression and my anxiety, but I am planning to get pregnant in the future. I also wonder if it will heal my brain enough that after a period of time I won’t need to take it anymore. Do you have any information on that? For instance would a 6-month period of taking lithium orotate everyday make permanent or lasting changes to my brain?

Excellent work figuring out how things affect you. Zinc and lithium both reduce glutamate so taking both may work synergistically together on high glutamate so you only need to take less lithium. They also both boost BDNF so this may be the why they work so well on you. Another possibility is their combined anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects is especially benefits your brain. You could test each of these possible therapeutic effects by combining a stack of remedies that have the above effects one at a time to see which strategy benefits your individual brain the most (glutamate, BDNF, inflammation). You are testing the weakest most imbalanced systems in your brain. I’m gonna be starting a series on each of these aspects of the bipolar brain soon. Got to make some videos on stress and the immune system (Coronavirus and all).

This is game changer. I am taking zoloft and pregabalin. In the morning 2hours after taking zoloft 50mg I take on empty stomach together 5mg LO and 500mg NAC on empty stomach and 6hours after pregabalin 75mg. 45min before bad I take 200mg magnesium glycinate. After lunch NOW ADAM multi, 3grams omega with high DHA and 4000IU D3 with K2.sometimes also 50mg zinc picolinate. That is my daily regime for GAD and somatic anxiety, benign fasciculation syndrome. I also went to replaced 6 amalgam fillings to white composite before starting using Lo and NAC. The main problem was high glutamate and low gaba, maybe also little low dopamine and mercury poisoning from fillings. The brand supplements that I am using are Thorne, NOW and doctor's Best.

Dear Peter, I am sorry if I am nagging you, but I don't have anyone else to ask. I am desperate to stabilize myself. My question is: If , without supplements (I can not take or do all you recommend) how much lithium per day would be sufficient treating a strong long medication resistant depression and for repairing a long damaged brain from bipolar. The american dr. Millar says 100 mg !!! This is so far from what you recommend - 20 mg, but of course you add all these supplements, exercise diet etc. If I want to make the most out of the lithium orotate by itself, not relying on other things, would you recommend a higher dosage that 20 mg? I am really desperate to make it work. Thanks and tell me if I'm disturbing you with my ongoing questions. Thank you so much, Dvorah h

Hi just seeing this after 2 years. Yes, in my practice I’ve seen some people find lithium orotate beneficial for their PTSD. It may assist the brain to remodel away from the PTSD. This would be assisted by doily meditation brain training and trauma release therapy at the same time. Substances that directly dampen down the reactivity of the amygdala include the supplement Zembrin and the psychedelic drug psilocybin from magic mushrooms. I would try a course of lithium and meditation for 3-4 months to effect some remodelling then add Zembrin for a month or 2, then find a psilocybin based therapist. Good luck with your recovery.

Hi there, looking for any advice using lithium oratate with anti depressants (10mg escitalopram). Im asking because, ive used lithium oratate before with 5htp, i used 10mg and 100mg 5htp, this was when i tapered an anti depressant. I was on citalopram for 6 years and this worked great till it just suddenly pooped out. I tried a slew of others for severe depression and anxiety, until i tried escitalopram. Unfortunatly its not perfect and still battle with mood swings and repetative thinking, so looking for a boost, and ive tried lots of herbs too. Hi, lithium orotate is a good choice chronic and recurrent depression, it's quite slow acting exerts multiple antidepressant effects and anti-inflammatory effect. If you wanted me to look into your case and work out a programme of natural remedies to help you taper and transfer from pharmaceuticals to natural remedies I'm available for private consultation, you can find details on my website. To really transform the health of your brain and combat depression you should combine several things together at the same time, a neuroplasticity anti-inflammatory diet with brain training exercises and a stack of supplements to focus on reducing inflammation, boosting neuroplasticity and targeting the appropriate neurotransmitters in your brain.

Wow that’s fantastic, thanks for sharing I’ve not seen those before. The label says 5 mg lithium orotate from two Gummies so 2.5 mg per gummy, this would be very useful for people that want a smaller dose and smaller people such as children. I don’t like the imprecise wording on the label however, I’m presuming that means 5 mg of ELEMENTAL lithium from 125 mg lithium orotate and not just 5 mg of lithium-orotate which would be just 0.19 mg or 190 mcg of actual elemental lithium. They don’t even make this clear on their website product page. If you write to the company and clarify this point please post the clarification in a comment.

I have occasionally had patients that experienced improvements from lithium within say a few days, however, this is less common. The more common experience I've observed in my practice is effect build up gradually becoming noticeable in the 3 to 4 week timeframe. My personal experience was: I went from zero lithium supplementation to 10 mg lithium orotate a day and it felt horrible, I experienced emotional flattening and slight hand trembling. At that time I was very wary of lithium, in my mind I still thought of it as a pharmaceutical drug and this experience almost made me abort the trial. I reduced the dosage to 1/8, i.e. I snapped the tablets into quarters and took one quarter a day about 1.25 mg. This felt okay, no emotional flattening, no hand trembling. After one week I doubled it taking to quarters a day, this still felt okay, the next week I doubled it again and so forth all the way up to my current dose of 5 mg twice a day. Within about 3 weeks I thought I think this is doing something, I think this is having some positive effect on me, it was subtle but it was there. Then what happened was after 6 months on lithium I looked back and realised I was much healthier than I had been 6 months ago, then another 6 months after that, the same, I was definitely mentally healthier, my condition was more stable and I felt more resilient. This continued 2 more times, i.e. every 6 months I looked back and realised I was in a better mental health state. So, in my case, I had to build up the lithium slowly over the first month or so, it started to make subtle changes at 3-4 week mark but then remarkably continued to improve the health of my brain over about 2 years until it eventually seemed to reach a plateau after which I can't say I noticed the lithium improving me any further, it's like the lithium has done all it can do and all I now have to do is keep taking it to continue maintain the benefits. In many ways this makes sense, one of the primary actions of lithium, at least I believe in my case, is that it boosts neuroplasticity. Neuro plastic boosting treatments take several weeks to produce any noticeable positive effects, but then they can continue create improvements for a couple of years. When someone has a stroke or other brain injury for example you can observe the brain regenerating and rewiring itself over about a two-year period and then it kind of plateaus. Talking about brain development plateauing about 10 years ago I had fairly significant decline in function in the parietal lobes of my brain, I largely recovered this to a combination of supplements diet brain training et cetera, but my ability to perform mental arithmetic never fully recovered to its former state. Excitingly however, even after all this time I've noticed spontaneous recovery of function in this area in this area over the last couple of years; so it seems that my brain still retains the capacity for regeneration in this area despite having plateaued for about 6 years. It's possible that it just needed more time but I think it's more likely it's the effects of the new and improved brain health promoting techniques I've introduced in the last few years. I'm constantly learning about diet and have made some significant advances in understanding how eat to manipulate brain health, I've introduced new sleeping techniques to absolutely optimise my sleep. Thanks to lithium orotate and the other things I've had the healthiest decade of my life, the first decade for 40 years where I had zero mental illness! :-) As ever good luck with your mental health journey…

@@ideadriven1953 that is great news! I took only 4% of one (5mg elemengal Lithium) pill, which is around 0.2 mg elemental Li, in LiOr) and felt slightly giddy for an hour or so. I recall once taking the full 5 mg recommended pill and felt awful. I think some really need it but only in microdose amounts. especially super sensitive individuals. I'm so glad it helped you. I wonder if o.1mg should be recommended to vitamins. Some experts declare it is an essential nutrient like zinc, and like zinc, too much is not recommended.

You can take it with food which may make a difference, but everyone is different and you have to work with the body you have. The way to successfully use natural self help and lifestyle medicine is to do individual experiments rather than taking the same dose other people take.

Doc, I am currently on a prescription for lithium carbonate, given to me by a Psychiatrist who diagnosed me with Bipolar 1 (concurrent/comorbid ADHD) at the rate of 900mg per day. I am gravely concerned about kidney health although I have not yet experienced any problems (I have only been on lithium carbonate for about 6 weeks at this point). How might I best transition to lithium orotate? Can you speak to that accurately?

Ask your doctor and show him the supplies. Show the elemental amount and compare to the elemental amount in lithium carbonate and ask if you can switch to a lower dose. Dont forget the elemental amount may absorb far more with orotate version

At one point you mention that you take 260mg of the orotate, yet it has 10mg of the elemental lithium (so you take a 10mg pill of the lithium orotate-according to the amount listed on the front of the bottle). Then you mention that 170mg of the elemental lithium from carbonate (or 900mg) has equivalency to 10mg of the elemental lithium in the orotate. Am I on point?

Hello, i am so glad having found your videos! One question concerning lithium orotate really moves me and my spouse. Sadly we have no videos about it in the german net...nor any docs seeming to know about it. I am a man, 37 jears old, bipolar 2 and survived 7 jears of hypers and medium depression changing every 6 month. Since 2 jears i am stable as i take 900mg quilonum plus psycotherapie for 4 jears and want to switch to litium orotate within the next year. i would love to get any advice about the best way to do so...my lithium boodlevel was at 0,45 over the last year. 1. how much orotate would i need to take? 2. how would i lower the one and stack up the other 3. could i take both at the same time befor i lower the levels of Quilonum as my level is so low? 4. I have 2 sons 11 and 13 of age, their mother is probably challenged by borderline close spectrum... do you have any experience or advice when and in which dosage lithiumorotate would work for them in advance to any bipolar issues coming up? warmly and greatfully Paul

Does Lithium also have a serotonin balancing effect? For example if serotonin is too high in the brain, can Lithium help balance and lower serotonin in any case?
@NaturalMentalHealthTreatments
@NaturalMentalHealthTreatments Жыл бұрын
Probably! it seems to have a balancing effect. You can alway try taking it and an experiment. It definitely can slowly help rebuild deficient serotonin activity, it seems to work boosting neuroplasticity and reducing neuro-inflammation to stimulate the growth/ re-growth of serotonin synapses. This takes times, several months, you could reinforce it with saffron, zembrin and tryptophan.

I always say natural remedies are not that strong so you need to take several to get a strong effect. Also mental health problems have many aspects and you want to address as many of them you can and this requires several remedies. Lithium orotate is a good one but I never achieved stability with just a single mono-therapy approach. Trying to rely on just one thing i.e. mono-therapy is what mainstream medicine often tries and with a highly complex system (the brain) it often just doesn’t work.

hi, thanks a lot for your great videos. :) how did you change from carbonate to orotate? Can you take both til it works, or does it works direktly when you use carbonate, before? Does anybody here have experience to use it during pregnancy. I guess it has less side effects than carbonate but i don´t find few information about that.

Don’t take lithium orotate and carbonate together at the same time, no researched tables or guidelines have been developed for this and there’s a risk of building up toxic levels (lithium orotate is excreted more slowly than the carbonate from the kidneys). Supplementing low dose lithium orotate is not as strong as pharmaceutical lithium carbonate so I don’t recommend trying to rely on lithium orotate alone; to manage bipolar disorder without pharmaceuticals requires taking multiple natural remedies and therapeutic approaches (dark-therapy, rebalancing overactivity in the HPA-axis, reducing neuro-inflammation, boosting neuroplasticity, supplementing and growing then intestinal microbiome). Each of these adds some stabilising therapeutic effects and combined together they can all add up to a strong therapy effect. Sorry if this sounds too much and off putting, I didn’t invent the complex biology of bipolar! In my practice, first my patients put all the addition additional remedies and techniques in place then they may be ready to switch from lithium carbonate to orotate; the transition should be made overnight to avoid gaps with no lithium and avoid doubling up and producing toxic levels.

It is not possible to get Li-orotate in Germany. My doctor does not know it, nor does she know what to write on the prescription. The pharmacist has no clue where to order it (however there is St. Georg Klinik in Bad Aibling, Bavaria, they sell when you have a prescriptionj). So i order Li-orotate in UK, 5mg per tablet. I take 10mg a day plus the "old" 450mg LiCarbonate. Being bipolar for 14 years now i have NEVER been told about LiOrotate by any Professor or doktor i met. Even worse none of those guys could explain how Lithium works. Instead they told me that i have a chronic desease and i have to take their psycho medicine until the end of my life. Today i do not believe this anymore ...
