I recently upgraded to a 24V 50ah lithium battery. This is my review of that upgrade. I did a preivious video with a little more information on lithium batteries in it here's a link to that video • Lithium Trolling Motor...

I installed 2 x 100AH Ionic batteries in my 2022 Lund 1875 Impact. I run a 24 V MinnKota Ulterra. I am so impressed by this technology that I am installing another 12 v 100 AH battery solely to run my graphs (A Humminbird Solix 12 and a Helix 10). The Ionic Battery has bluetooth that tells you the actual amount of charge left, so getting surprised does not happen. Soendy ? Yep. Worth every dime tho.
@winnesotafishing5 ай бұрын
I will be doing the same as far as getting a dedicated battery for my graphs. I am hoping to add another Helix this spring. I was unaware of the bluetooth features available I am definitely going to look into Ionic Batteries. Thanks for the heads up.

I bought two 100AH LFP batteries, connected them in series, and realized I could probably fish 5 or 6 full days between charging, but I don't use my trolling motor a ton while fishing. I actually used those for a different project and built a dedicated 50AH, 24v battery, from component parts. Only cost about $300, at the time.

This is a similar setup to what I want to run in my boat. Do you have this set up to your fusebox? Or do you just have a 60 amp minn kota circuit breaker? Just trying to figure out how to set it up. Thanks man!

I just have the 60 amp circuit breaker. Seemed like the simplest way of doing it.

great review! I have the same trolling motor and everyone says get 100ah but this video proves 50ah would be enough for my purposes.

So this must be an older Dakota 24v 50Ah? I see they have now have a 24v 60Ah on their website.
@winnesotafishing6 ай бұрын
You are correct. They no longer make the 50Ah battery.
@MikeTanner32104 ай бұрын
So the 50AH on the 24v trolling motor battery was enough to last a couple days of hard fishing without any charging ? I am new to using electric trolling motors and I just got a 24v 80lb minn kota that I need a battery for.
@winnesotafishing4 ай бұрын
It was in this particular case. Obviously how you are fishing and weather play a huge role. Also I only have a 16.5' boat that is pretty light so doesn't require as much power to control. The difference between a regular lead acid battery and a lithium battery is huge. I would recommend lithium to anyone thinking about making the switch.
@MikeTanner32104 ай бұрын

@RK-kn1ud2 ай бұрын
@@MikeTanner3210You can PROBABLY use something like Victron's smart shunt (or similar) to monitor how much power you've used...and other statistics. I'm a 12v guy, so you gotta make sure that whatever you buy is compatible.

Can you use the normal dakota lithium charger with 24v50ah lithium ion battery?
@winnesotafishing4 ай бұрын
I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction, but I think you should be able to. If it is a charger designed to charge a lead acid battery it may end up not fully charging a lithium battery but keep in mind I am no expert.
@KarlBAndersen3 ай бұрын
So is there any method of determining how much run time is remaining in the battery? How much charge is left?
@winnesotafishing3 ай бұрын
There are additional gauges that you can buy that will give you a reading on how much power is left in your battery but I haven't made the investment in anything yet.
@KarlBAndersen3 ай бұрын
@@winnesotafishing I just checked Dakota and - wow - the smart battery monitor is 200 bucks.
@winnesotafishing3 ай бұрын
@@KarlBAndersen Yeah, little more than I would like to pay. With the size of my boat and the style of fishing I do if I charge it after a day I rarely run out of power.

So if your fishing all day have you found the need to charge it every night. What kind of charger. Thanks
@winnesotafishing3 ай бұрын
@@JamesWhite-tg4kw Out of habit I do charge it at night if I fished all day. I am not sure that I would need to though. I have a Dakota lithium charger that came with the battery. You can use a conventional charger but they won't fully charge your lithium battery. They will only get it to about 80%

@winnesotafishingАй бұрын
Safe how? I know when they first started putting them in cell phones there were some issues but I don't know of any issues with boat batteries. Not saying there haven't been any but I am not aware of any.

Actually the Lithium-Ion batteries are the ones that are catching fire. The Lifepo4 have a safe track record.
