@Adam Nieniewski If that were the case, Vivovt wouldn't have written a letter saying that Samogitians and Lithuanians spoke the same language.. And there wouldn't be mentions of Gediminas as the king of "Aukstaityja and Samogitia" Which clearly refers to the ethnographics of ethnic baltic Lithuania..🤦‍♂ And also calling Polish culture "superior" is an empty nazitard statement.

@@artememelyanov6732 No. It is because Lithuania basically became Russian after the partitions of the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1795. In 1918 it broke away from its previous relationship with Poland and aligned itself with Russia where it remained until USSR collapsed in 1989-1991. Had it remained aligned with Poland in 1918 it would have retained its identity but by aligning with Russia it was swallowed up by the USSR and lost its heritage. Lithuania forgot itself from 1795 - 1991 so little wonder most of the world forgot about Lithuania. Just remember when Pilsudski attempted to revive the Commonwealth and add some newly formed countries that were once part of the Commonwealth, Lithuania preferred to align itself with Russia as much of the country became Russified during the 1795-1918 period.

Anyway, the video is full of errors! Lithuania was only a power for a relatively short time. Because Poland was actually the Medieval Superpower after Poland took over Lithuania with the Union of Krewo in 1385! After the Union of Krewo and the takeover of Lithuania, Poland was actually the only empire in Europe for over 100 years and remained an empire for several centuries. The absurd video completely hides the reality that Poland ruled over Lithuania from 1385 onwards. The video therefore also claims nonsense, as if Lithuania was still an independent country after 1385. In reality, the Poles had rule over Lithuania after 1385 due to the personal union with which the Polish king was also the supreme sovereign of Lithuania. The stupid video also didn't mention that the alleged Lithuanian Medieval superpower was helpless against the constant attacks of the Teutonic Order. It's a historical fact that first the Teutonic Order exterminated the Baltic old Prussians and then tried the same thing with the population of Grand Duchy of Lithuania. So with the Baltic and Slavic Ruthenian population. The Teutonic Order's attempted genocide against the population of the Lithuanian territories, which consisted of Slavic Ruthenians and Balts. For two centuries, the German knights waged a war against the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. They made more than 300 "Reisen" (Journeys) to the slavic Ruthenian and Baltic lands of Grand Duchy of Lithuania. So-called "Reisen" journey raids were genocidal sacking, looting, and pillaging with massacre of the civilian population. These journey raids were also used for slave hunting and cattle were also robbed! It was precisely around that time that the entire swath of land between the Order and Lithuania became a scarcely-inhabited territory. These journey raids mostly took place in winter, because the horses with the heavily armored knights made much better progress in the swampy areas in winter. Always in winter, when the ground was frozen and the knights could easily ride in the swampy areas, there were veritable extermination campaigns. So, for the population of the areas of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, winter was the season of massacres. But even after Lithuania was officially Christian and Lithuania was part of the Polish Empire, aggression against the Lithuanian and Ruthenian populations did not stop. The aggressions only stopped and the baltic and slavic population was safe when the Order was defeated by the the Polish Empire. By the way, the order was not defeated after the great Battle of Grunwald in 1410, what many believe, when the order was defeated under the leadership of Polish Empire. The Polish Empire had to win various other battles before the order became a vassal of the Polish Empire. The Battle of Grunwald was so only one of the first steps towards the victory of the Polish Empire against the Teutonic Order. The armies of the Polish Empire still had to win in various battles in which Lithuanian troops were not always involved in order to finally defeat the Teutonic Order. 56 years after the Battle of Grunwald with the Second Peace of Thorn in 1466, after further decisive Polish victories, the Order became a vassal of the Polish Empire. Of course, that wasn't mentioned in the stupid video. It is a historical fact that since the Treaty of the Union of Krewo in 1385 there was a de jure and de facto Polish-Lithuanian personal union with the Polish king as the sovereign. In the Battle of Grunwald in 1410, the Polish king was the supreme commander of the entire army! The Polish king concluded the Peace of Thorn treaty in 1411 with the Teutonic Order for his entire empire, including Lithuania. The Teutonic Order paid the large war reparations only to the Polish Empire! The Teutonic Order also paid the considerable ransoms for the release of the Teutonic Knights from captivity to the Polish Empire! By the way, the ransom of 100,000 kopas of Prague groschen, was equal to £850,000, ten times the annual income of King of England. In the further wars against the Teutonic Order the Hunger War of 1414 and the Gollub War of 1422 the Polish king also had supreme command and the Lithuanian nobility had to obey him. The Polish king negotiated with Teutonic Order the peace with the Treaty of Melno in 1422 for the entire empire including Lithuania. By the way, the Polonization of the Lithuanian nobility progressed rapidly as early as the 15th century starting with the that in total 47 selected Lithuanian nobles were adopted by Polish nobles heraldic families and granted Polish coats of arm. The names of these Lithuanian nobles were also Polonized. This gesture signified their desire to adopt Polish customs and integrate into Polish society. This was also part of Poland's significantly increased Polonization of Lithuania. In fact, the Lithuanian nobility had to submit and subordinate to the Polish king for all important aspects. The enormous Polonization of Lithuania also illustrates the Polish power over Lithuania. It was simply worth becoming a Pole, because Poles were in power in the state. In any case, the Polonization happened voluntarily. The assimilation of the Lithuanians was favored by several factors. One of the most important factors was the cultural superiority of the Poles. The Polonized Lithuanian nobility sent their sons to Poland for education. By the way, the oldest university in Lithuania is the University of Vilnius, which was founded in 1579 by the Polish king. The oldest university in Poland is the Jagiellonian University of Karaków founded in 1364 by the polish King Casimir III the Great and by the way, this ist one of the oldest universities in continuous operation in the world. By the way, the official and written language of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania before being taken over by Poland was not the Lithuanian language, which only became a written language in the 16th century, but Ruthenian, an early form of today's Belarusian and Ukrainian languages. Before being taken over by Poland in 1385, the East Slavic language Ruthenian, as most common language, was used as the written language, not Lithuanian. Besides that after Lithuania became part of the Polish Empire in 1385 everywhere the upper class spoke Polish. Only the peasants spoke Lithuanian! In any case, due to the cultural superiority of the Poles, the assimilation was greatly accelerated. This is how more and more Lithuanians want to be Poles! It was simply worth becoming a Pole and being part of the dominant ethnic group. It was worth being assimilated by the Poles! Most of Lithuanian nobility were Polonized and spoke Polish. The nobility was a role model for the rest of the population and that is why more and more non-nobles spoke Polish. In addition, it was simply worth becoming a Pole, because Poles were in power in the state. The result of this Polonization was also that the Lithuanian capital Vilnius became the Polish city of Wilno, where mainly Polish was spoken. I'll continue the comment below!

By the way, the Polonization began parallel to the Christianization of Lithuania. The Grand Duke of Lithuania Jogaila was originally Lithuanian but became Polonized by marrying the Polish Queen Jadwiga of Poland. In the process his name was also Polonized from Lithuanian Jogaila to Polish Władysław II Jagiełło. The wiki link is also titled Władysław II Jagiełło which is the Polish name. He also lived in Kraków, the capital of Poland! His children became Poles, of course! Jogaila was certainly not the first Lithuanian to be Polonized, because at that time there were already many Polonized Lithuanians. Because another aspect which accelerated the Polonization of Lithuania was the Christian belief. The pagan Lithuanian Grand Duke of Lithuania Jogaila became a Christian by marrying the Polish Queen and thus all of lithuania was considered Christian. But only a fool believes that a country could be Christianized only by marriage and conversion of the ruler. Because there was a Christianization campaign of Lithuania from Poland long before that. Christianity was already known in Lithuania and at least partially established. The conversion of the ruler to Christianity then strengthened the Christianization, but that was definitely not the beginning of the Christianization. Of course, the Polish priests and Polish monks already had influence in the country, they all had Lithuanian helpers who were already learning Polish. Some believers probably also learned Polish through contact with these clergymen! Thus, the Polonization began parallel to the Christianization. Also, Polish traders were already on the move in the country, they also had local helpers who learned Polish. Lithuanian mercenaries fought for Poland and probably also learned Polish. All this was the beginning of the Polonization, which certainly did not start with the Union of Krewo from 1385. Because at the time of the beginning of the Union of Krewo and the beginning of the Polish Empire, the Polonization of Lithuania was already relatively advanced. So the Grand Duke of Lithuania Jogaila who was Polonized to the Polish king Władysław II Jagiełło was certainly not the first Lithuanian to be Polonized, because at that time there were already many Polonized Lithuanians. Of course, none of this was mentioned in the stupid video, which is actually a falsification of history. Of course, the Union of Lublin in 1569 is not mentioned as the final point of the Polonization of Lithuania in the stupid video. The wrong term “Commonwealth” is also used as a false translation of the Polish term “Rzeczpospolita” in the stupid video. Because the correct translation of “Rzeczpospolita” is republic! The special monarchical Polish republic Rzeczpospolita was actually not founded in Lublin in 1569 but much earlier in the Parliament of Radom with the Constitution "Nihil novi" of 1505. Whereby the Polish nobles' democracy was founded and in fact the first democracy in the world since the Greek period. That wasn't mentioned in the stupid video either! In any case, it is wrong to use the term Commonwealth as a translation for the Polish name of the state Rzeczpospolita, which was actually Polska (Polish) Rzeczpospolita and not Polish-Lithuanian Rzeczpospolita. It was always just Polska Rzeczpospolita because that was also the Polish Empire. One can also see that this was Poland and not Poland Lithuania in the caricature where the Russian monarch, the Austrian monarch and the Prussian monarch look at the map with the name Poland on it Latin Polania. There is nothing to be seen of Lithuania because Lithuania was part of Polish territory. In summary, one can say that the video is largely a falsification of history because nothing I described was mentioned and instead the nonsense is spread that Lithuania was allegedly an independent country after 1385 because in reality Lithuania was part of the Polish Empire since then.

@@GreatPolishWingedHussars Poland did not take over Lithuania in 1385. Just Poland and Lithuania were ruled by Lithuanian Grand Duke Jogaila. You can actually claim that Lithuania was an Empire during that time because it was the largest country during that period. Not only it owned lands from Black Sea to the Baltic Sea, but Lithuania's vassals were: Republic of Novgorod, Duchy of Pskov, Duchy of Tver and Crimean Tatars' territories. Grand Duchy of Luxembourg was just little bit bigger than today's Luxembourg. So, in comparison, Lithuania truly was an Empire.

@@user-jj8jl4eg6q You write fairy tales, not me! Since your claim now contradicts your first comment that allegedly Lithuania was an empire in the 15th century. Because your claim about Lithuania in the 15th century contradicts the historical truth, because in this century Poland was the empire that ruled Lithuania and Lithuania ceased to be an independent country in this century. Although it actually started at the end of the 14th century with the Union of Krewo in 1385. But you with your fairy tales will definitely deny that the Polish king became the Supreme Duke of Lithuania with the Union of Krewo although he still allowed Vytautas to be the Grand Duke of Lithuania. You can also read in the Wiki Link to the Polish King Władysław II Jagiełło that he was as the Polish king the Supreme Duke of Lithuania. The link entitled "Wladyslaw Ii Jagiello - Encyclopedia" also states that the Polish king was also the Supreme Duke of Lithuania. For people who don't like wiki links. However, the Polish king still kept the Lithuanians on a long leash by allowing Vytautas to be the Grand Duke of Liateuns. In later times the leash was tightened because Polish rule over Lithuania was consolidated and the Polish king almost always automatically became the Grand Duke of Lithuania. It is a historical fact that since the Treaty of the Union of Krewo in 1385 there was a de jure and de facto Polish-Lithuanian personal union with the Polish king as the sovereign also of Lithuania. At first, the Lithuanians were only kept on a long leash by the Polish king as long as Polish power over Lithuania was not yet fully consolidated. With the Krewo Union Treaty, Lthuania ceased to be a separate political entity. The time aspect should also be taken into account when assessing the the subordination of Lithuania to Polish rule. Of course, Polish rule over Lithuania was not so solid at the beginning of the 15th century as it was at the end of the century. The Polish king Casimir IV, who ruled the Polish empire from 1447, was so powerful that he no longer had to take the sensitivities and opinions of the Lithuanian nobility into account. Because that was the Polish king who finally defeated the Teutonic Order and made it as the fief of Poland to a part of the dominion of the Polish Empire.

Oh, come on. They basically skipted topic of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, which is a very interesting and long part of their history. So basically Poland and Lithuania were united under one crown for over 400 years (for some time it was the biggest coutry in Europe, there was even a period when they had access to 3 seas). First they were in union from 1386 (Union of Krewo) when Jadwiga (lady king of Poland) married Jogaila (grand duke of Lithuania), after them the coutries always had one ruler. Then from 1569 (Union of Lublin) they truly became one country known as Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Then in 1795, as a result of the partitions, they disappeared from the maps for over 100 years. Officially they separeted in 1918 when after WW1 they came back as saparate countries. Since then they were under Russian influence, then WW2 happened and their disappeared again, they regained their full freedom from Russia only little over 30 years ago. So you can really say that they shared their history from 1386 (till 1990's), from the wedding that was the most important wedding in history of the Europe to this day. Even the song at the beginning is a reference to this, it's called "Och jarzębino"/"Oi Šermukšnio" and it's polish-lithuanian war song from the time when they were at war with Sweden.

I personally think that Lithuania's quality of life was best during that era aside from the invasions, at least pragmatically speaking. However, while Poles often take pride in the history of the Commonwealth, the sentiments among Lithuanians can be more nuanced mostly due to the polish dominance, loss of autonomy and just modern nationalism. I personally do not have much opinion on this though, I am just glad that my country still had a chance to exist independently from Muscovites and enter a golden age even if it lost it's role as a political player after the unions.

This wasn't just a realm but a Polish empire! Lithuania was only a power for a relatively short time in the 14th century.

Your claim is wrong because the Pole Tadeusz Kościuszko was not Lithuanian! Of course he spoke Polish and identified with Polish culture! His parents with Polish first names and surnames Tekla Ratomska the mother and his father who was a Polish nobleman Ludwik Tadeusz Kościuszko were Polish. His mother's and father's ancestors were like a large part of the Ruthenian nobles Polonized Ruthenian nobility so they were Poles. He was the leader of the Poles in the Kościuszko Uprising also known as the Polish Uprising of 1794 because he was a Pole. He also studied Polish history, law, economics, Arithmetic, geometry and measurement. He took a special engineering course for outstanding students. He did not study Lithuanian history, but Polish history because he identified himself as a Pole. At some point in 1777, Kościuszko composed a polonaise and scored it for the harpsichord. In America where he also fought he was also known as Pole and was introduced and addressed as Pole. No one in America called him a Lithuanian because he always introduced himself as a Pole. This Polish hero is honored in many places in Poland.

Yes Lithuania is a tiny nation because of the significant Polonization!

@GreatPolishWingedHussars
@GreatPolishWingedHussars 7 ай бұрын
@@Lu-.- Your claims are ridiculous and contradict historical truth because you have no idea! Show me a 15th century other than Polish empire in Europe? For the entire 15th century there was only one empire in Europe and that was the Polish Empire. Furthermore, it is obvious that Poland was an empire. According to the usual definition is an Empire usually a very large in terms of area multi-ethnic state with political and military dominion of one ethnic group. According to this definition was Poland an empire in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries! This already proves the enormous size of the Polish territory at this time compared to other European countries that the Polish king and the Polish parliament ruled. The Poles were also the political and military dominant ethnic group of this Empire. So the Poles were the imperial ruling ethnic group! The Poles ruled not only the Lithuanians but also various other peoples and there were 10 different Religions in the Polish Empire.(Catholics, Protestants, Muslims, Eastern Catholicism, Eastern Orthodox, Armenian Apostolic Orthodox, Jews, Russian Old Believers and Mennonites.) So it was a Polish empire, because the Poles were the nation in power. The Poles ruled the other peoples and partially assimilated them. Lithuanians and other peoples were Polonized in the Polish Empire. Only one nation was relevant in this empire and that was the Poles. In fact, Poland was the only empire in Europe for 100 years in the entire 15th century! Lithuanians as well Ruthenians the ancestors of the Belarusians and Ukrainians like various other peoples were mastered by the Poles. It was a Polish empire, because the Poles were the nation in power. The Poles ruled the other peoples and partially assimilated them. That is why the Lithuanians were almost completely Polonized. If Denmark, Mali, Belgium and Ghana are called empires (There are wiki links where these countries are referred to as empires!) then of course Poland of the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries should also be called an empire! By the way, Poland is also listed in the wiki link "List of empires"! In addition, in many KZfaq videos with titles like 1000 Empires in World History, Poland is mentioned as an empire. So stop with your nonsense that only shows that you have no idea.

@@GreatPolishWingedHussars The HRE.
@GreatPolishWingedHussars
@GreatPolishWingedHussars 7 ай бұрын
@@Lu-.- Again you show that you have no idea, because the abbreviation "HRE" stands for the so-called Holy Roman Empire and although empire is included in the commonly used name, it was not an empire at all. In fact, the name most commonly used for this alleged empire is a translation error. Because the German term "Reich" contained in the German name "Heiliges Römisches Reich" was incorrectly translated and thus the wrong name "Holy Roman Empire" was created by historians. In fact, the correct translation for the German term "Reich" is "realm" and not "empire"! Consequently, the correct translation for the German name "Heiliges Römisches Reich" is “Holy Roman Realm”. I will detail the mistranslation later and will first refute your claim that it was an empire. Because even though it should correctly be called Realm and not Empire, it could still have been an Empire. But it definitely wasn't! However the Holy Roman Realm was also not an empire in the sense of a very powerful state, not only because of the wrong translation. In fact, it was only an empire in the sense of a very powerful state when Otto I was alive for a short time. Only he was actually a real emperor (Kaiser) in the history of the Holy Roman Realm. After his death, it actually fell apart. And so the Holy Roman Realm died shortly after birth! Only in Otto's time it deserves the designation empire. And so this empire itself was only a fiction after Otto I died. Because as an empire it only really existed during the 37 years of Otto I's reign. He was the only one who lived up to the title of Emperor because he was the undisputed ruler. After his death in 973 he empire fell apart in various German small states. In fact, none of Otto's successors, who called themselves emperors, were the undisputed rulers of all Germans. If anyone really managed to assert themselves, and truly have the power of an emperor then he was the exception. After his death the old situation was restored. But I can't actually think of anyone who really asserted themselves as emperor. Because in reality they were wannabe emperors who only had power in their own dominions. Like the Habsburgs, for example. In the Wiki link "House of Habsburg" one can clearly see the dominions of the Habsburgs, who called themselves emperors. The areas outside of their dominions are correctly referred in the link to as "various de facto sovereign states". All alleged emperors after Otto I were disputed and in danger of being overthrown. All had to wage wars against insurgents. In fact, there were constant wars against German small states who were actually independent and who did not recognize the alleged emperors. More often there were 2 alleged emperors who then fought each other. This then led to the fact that there was actually a 1000-year civil war among the Germans. After the death of Otto I, there was no more unity among the Germans. This non-existent empire actually consisted of hundreds of smaller sub-units of principalities, bailiwicks, margraviates, lordships, free cities, baronies, duchies and even simple counties and bishoprics and other territories. This shows that this former empire has fallen apart into a complete mess of different domains. An empire must be a united States with a central government and such a unified German state did not exist with a central government. These were actually states and territories without central authority! There was also no common currency and no capital either. Therefore the name empire is absurd, because that was not an empire! The Kaiser title was only status without real political meaning! There was no central authority! That was also complete delusions of grandeur to call it roman, as if it had allegedly been a successor to the roman empire! The Roman Empire was really an empire in contrast to this patchwork of independent states that was definitely not an empire. In fact, the German small states were actually permanently at war with each other or against the alleged emperor, so that a unified could not arise! 1000 years they killed each other in wars. One of the highlights was the Thirty Years' War. But they also fought each other before and after Thirty Years' War. Like in the Battle of Sievershausen 1553 when German Electorate of Saxony and Principality of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel fought against German Margraviate of Brandenburg-Kulmbach. By the way, this were really small German states! But German small states fought also alone against non German enemies. For Example in the Battle of Herbsthause when 1645 France fought against German Bavaria! Only Bavaria against France. Not the Holy Roman Realm against France. That was just Bavaria without the support of the alleged empire against the French. ALONE! Or the German small states fought with non German allies from outside against the other German small states like in the Battle of Blenheim in 1704 when German small states Prussia, Hesse-Cassel and Hesse-Homburg allied with England and the Dutch Republic fought against the German small states Bavarians allied with France. There was no alleged emperor to disrupt these wars. On Wiki this nonsensical structure is called patchwork of territories, which isn't really true because even the term patchwork suggests a certain connection. At most, one could call the HRR a military alliance. But even that is actually wrong, because within a military alliance the allies do not fight each other all the time! Because in this military alliance all HRR states were never united. The various German small states also founded alliances, although at least in theory the HRR still existed. For example the Rheinische Allianz or the Welfenallianz or the Hildesheimer Allianz or the Kurrheinian alliance. There was also for a time a coalition of Protestant German states called the Protestant Union and a confederation of German Catholic states called the Catholic League fighting each other. It is interesting that these alliances could also include non-members of the HRE. For example was Sweden member of the Rheinische Allianz and France too! This shows the confusion in the HRR and the absurdity of the HRR! A completely ridiculous and stupid nation that was in a civil war for 1000 years and only managed to found a united German state in 1871. It was only in 1871 that the first permanent unified German state emerged. That is why the Germans are also known as the late nation. Because the first unified German state was only founded in 1871! Only then did the Germans manage to establish a real empire for a miserable 47 years, but before there was no German empire. Now I explain why the English term Holy Roman Empire is based on the wrong translation of the German term "Heiliges Römisches Reich"! The English term "Holy Roman Empire" is based on an incorrect translation and is actually wrong. "Imperium" is empire in German not "Reich"! The term "Reich" is correctly explained in this German wikipedia link on the subject with the title "Reich(Territorium)"! Quote from this German Wikipeia link translated: "Reich denotes the territory of a ruler, a state or, more generally, a politically organized community" For "Reich" is the correct translation "realm". English and German are also related languages, which is why "realm" and "Reich" are similar and both words have the same meaning. In German every kingdom can be called a "Reich" even if it is not an empire at all. The German word "Königreich" for kingdom actually contains the word Reich! König-Reich. Realm of Kings! So the correct translation is "Holy Romen Realm" and not "Holy Roman Empire"! Despite it still, ignorant fools use the wrong term Holy Roman Empire and not the correct term Holy Roman Realm.
