I think my favourite thing about this song is that the song reminds folks that while its good and hard to leave toxic situations, its okay to miss when the relationship was good and to wish it had turned out different. Please, if you are anything like me, uf you have gone through this. Stay gone from the toxicity. Always put yourself first, but never let anyone tell you that missing the good is wrong. Its okay to miss it. But move on to someone who will cherish you. You deserve it.

The guy singer with the dark hair and the woman singing the lead on this song have been married for quite awhile. I was with a guy who was exactly like what is being described for a year and a half. Everything was on his terms. He would push my love away and thought I would always be around. I honestly believed that we would get married. The hardest thing I ever did was wake up and realize that that would never happen. How to give love and also receive it. Yes, sometimes I still wish my first love was a better man, especially that first year while I was still healing. But you have to do what is right for you and sometimes that is leaving and giving yourself permission to love again. Sorry for the novel! If you pay attention to details like the watch and the lighter. It points to that they were singing about the old man being harsh and could be a better man.
