I've Been Searching The Internet For Years For This Jackie Wilson Protege. This Is The Young Boy That Inspired Michael Jackson Watching Him From The Side Stage At The Apollo. He used To Drink A Glass Of Milk After Each Performance On Every Show. He Was Also On The Bobby Sherman Show And The Della Reese Show. He Also Made A Cameo Appearance On The Show Room 222 Way Before The Jackson 5 Were Discovered On The Miss Black America Pageant. This Young Kid Inspired Me Before Michael Jackson!!!

He performed at the Apollo quite often in the 60s. Marlon Jackson referenced him as one of the performers he and his brothers watched at the Apollo before they broke through. He was discovered by Jackie Wilson and on American Bandstand at age 3.

I always wondered about Little Dion...saw him (IF I remember right) at an all night New Year's Eve bash hosted by Wolfman Jack at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds '68-'69...at least I remember the girl I took, ha! (Jo). He put on a fabulous act but never heard much about him after that. When Michael Jackson came on the scene I was reminded of him immensely...

He played at Isy's Supper Club in Vancouver,, BC in the summer of 1968 - a couple years before this video was made. Isy's (Isy Walters) was the premier night and dinner club back then. You had dinner, drinks, watched musical acts with intermissions sprinkled with dancing girls wearing pasties. Little Richard also played there that summer.

Wow!! I’ve might have heard of Dion and the Bantams growing up but there was never no footage of them. So for me any possible mention went into obscurity. I now see where Michael Jackson got his moves from when he was with the Jackson 5 as a kid. Dion’s singing might have struggled a little, but clearly he definitely mastered at a young age stage presence. That kid was good!

This is 1970. The Jackson 5 were already out and had exploded. Little Dion wasn't a major name before them, and he looks younger than Michael was in 1970.

There are comments here about "1234" and playing a Hammond--I think that's the late Lucky Peterson the commenters mean. Lucky was on a lot of TV shows and released "1234" on Today Records. He also had a great career as a blues guitarist for many years, dying at 55 in 2020.

I remember when Little Dion was all over 60's TV shows like "Where The Action Is" and "Groovy". In fact, I saw him live on the beach in Santa Monica when they filmed an episode of "Groovy" hosted by Michael Blodgett. Back then Little Dion was more of a Jackie Wilson protege. But in this clip he's doing more of a James Brown thing. I guess he kind of got lost in the dust when Michael Jackson hit the scene.

This video here has been made way before the Jackson 5 came on the scene, and then has a natural singing voice, it's not like Michael Jackson a few years later... He got the James Brown dances that when he gets out on the stage....

It's not way before. The Jackson 5 made their first 3 television appearances in 1969 as well as their first album. By 1970, they had 4 number one hits consecutively on the R&B/Pop charts.
