I had the opportunity to see Little Eva perform this song live just a few months before she passed away and it was an event that will not be easily forgotten. She was just a small frame of a girl but she was filled with more energy that any performer I have ever seen...

God bless Little Eva. She was singing this song when I was a 12 yr old sittng at a Georgian Bay waterfront arcade one evening, sipping my very first 'grown-up' beverage, a cup of coffee, looking out over the water and lights. It felt magical.

In 1962 when this song came out, I was an apprentice and I went down to a cafe on the industrial estate where our factory was. As I went into the cafe 'The locomotion' was playing on the jukebox and about 20 young girls in their companies factory jackets were doing the locomotion. Every body was smiling in the cafe, it is such a vivid happy memory that comes to me every time I hear this great old song.

Yeah i bet you loved those times. Just like 1900 When Descendants of previous settlers hated and banned the immigrants from Europe looking for better lives. Little Eva's death. "She continued performing until she was diagnosed with cervical cancer in October 2001. She died on April 10, 2003 in Kinston, North Carolina, at the age of 59,[1] and is buried in a small cemetery in Belhaven, North Carolina." (Wikipedia). Little Eva lived in obscurity much of her life and her death was barely noticed. May she Rest In Peace.

The sad part is the story behind her grave marker. Turns out for years her grave was unmarked. White wooden cross marks it now with a local Belhaven, NC club making a appropriate maker for her now featuring a train on it with the phrase “She sings with the angels”. She was a maid for Carol King and her husband Gerry Goffin. They wrote the song for her because of a dance she created and showed to their kids while babysitting. And the rest as they say is history.
@jduff59
@jduff59 2 жыл бұрын
The story behind this song is as good as the song itself. Little Eva was baby sitting for Carole King and Gerry Goffin - they thought her dance moves were cool, and they wrote "Loco-Motion" (originally for another vocalist). Apparently Don Kirschner heard Eva's demo, they changed singers - and the rest is history. It's the type of story that's hard to believe, but apparently this one is true. Being at the right place at the right time is often as important as talent, but having both is pure gold.

I love this song! When I was eight years old my dance class had a recital using this as the backing track. It was the most fun I'd ever had. According to my mother I was the only kid who not only remembered the dance, but freestyled it! Apparently when my coach confronted me about changing the moves I said, "Don't blame me, blame the locomotion!" The two of us still laugh about it to this day. I kind of wish I'd stayed in tap dancing! Music is so powerful, how can anyone stand still hearing it?

What s cute story, I van picture it and you. If you can, please describe the steps to the locomotion as I don't remember seeing specific moves. When it first came out I just made steps up. I know arms would move with elbows in small wheels turning motion, but what should legs do? Lol.

That song was composed and written by Carol King and Gerry Goffin. At that time this little black teenage was working for them as a maid and babysiter. A studio wanted to record a demo of the song but without a signer, at the last minute the couple decided to ask Little Eva to come at the studio to record the song. She did it so well that it was decided that she will do the final recording. The rest is history.

OK, my memory of this one is at Sarah Pritchard-Carr's 10th birthday party. We were all dancing to this, and to Chubby Checker's 'Let's Twist Again' - all the current hits. We were all learning the Twist but I don't think any of us knew how to dance the Locomotion, so we just sort of played trains to the music. Then we went downstairs for tea. It was a huge spread, the most amazing things to a 10 year old (her family were bakers). One by one, we literally made ourselves sick from eating too many cream cakes, before our parents arrived to take us home. Happy days.

Lyrcs: Everybody's doin' a brand new dance now (Come on baby do the locomotion) I know you'll get to like it if you give it a chance now (Come on baby do the locomotion) My little baby sister can do it with ease It's easier than learning your A B C's So come on, come on, do the locomotion with me You gotta swing your hips now Come on baby, jump up, jump back Well, I think you got the knack, ohh Now that you can do it, let's make a chain now (Come on baby do the locomotion) Chug-a chug-a motion like a railway train now (Come on baby do the locomotion) Do it nice and easy now don't lose control A little bit of rhythm and a lot of soul So come on, come on, do the locomotion with me Come on, do the locomotion Come on, do the locomotion Come on, do the locomotion Come on, come on, come on, come on Move around the floor in a locomotion (Come on baby do the locomotion) Do it holding hands if you got the notion (Come on baby do the loco-motion) There's never been a dance that's so easy to do It even makes you happy when you're feeling blue So come on, come on, do the locomotion with me You gotta swing your hips now Come on baby, jump up, jump back Well, I think you got the knack, ohh Do the loc, do the loc, do the loco locomotion (Come on do the locomotion) Do the loc, do the loc, do the loco locomotion (Come on, do the locomotion) Come on baby All that you can do is come on baby Come on, come on, come on, come on... Come on!

Memories !....It was June 1962 , I was 15 and our family moved from Central Ill to San Diego Calif...I used to take the bus downtown to the foot of Broadway , walk past two piers and go to the USN : "Fleet Dock". and watch the sailors come into the dock off their ships on small open craft. Loved the sound of these naval small craft used to transport sailors.Little Eva would be singing this song all over the loudspeakers which were mounted all over the Dock. Great memories.RIP Eva !

As a 90's kid, I miss so much hearing the "oldies" on the radio. They played them all the time. It was so great. Slowly in the 2000's they faded out of existence. Songs like this one, Pretty Woman, Earth Angel, Mr Sandman, Lolipop, etc.

The men are all in lovely suits, and the girls in bright dresses!! They are all happy and smiling!!! Sometimes music does magical and wonderful things! People definitely need that, specially in this cruel time, i hope everyone is doing well xx
