Pentatonix learns their foreign language songs phonetically (and they have half a dozen or more). I don't know Japanese, either, but people who commented on the original said Kirstin did a really good job so I take their word for it.

Brother. Excellent reaction. A little history on little glee monster (or LGM), From left to right you have Karen, Mayu, Manaka, and Asahi. The one that is is missing is Serina. She is out due to medical reasons. If you would like to hear them sing in English, I would recommend "Ain't no mountain high enough" or "You don't know. I promise, you will not be disappointed.

While none of the PTX members speak the language, they've done a few Japanese songs over the years (PTX are VERY popular in Japan) - this is just the newest one. Look up their Perfume Medley and Pretender. They've also sung in a few other languages: French (Papaoutai), Korean (Gangnam Style), Spanish (Despacito), Latin (christus factus est)... Kirstin knows some Spanish, but I'm not sure if she's fluent and Kevin speaks fluent Mandarin. But other than that I believe they all learnt these songs phonetically.

I had to come back for a second look. I was watching the Olympics Opening Ceremony and couldn't help thinking this would have been an appropriate song for them to be singing together at the opening. Is it too late for someone to suggest it for the closing ceremony.

What??? What happened to Serina, the 5th and my favorite member of LGM??!! Originally there were 8 members. As with many Japanese idol groups, each member represented a color. I wonder if they changed up their image. I got into them when they were still high school students. Sony Music wanted to create a group of vocalists. They are great!!!
