The sad thing about this area is that because of the prolonged and delayed construction of line 5, a lot of business have gone out of business due to low foot traffic. Only time will tell, if the community becomes revitalized after construction is complete. Covid has also compounded things.

Yeah, the construction + virus has been a double whammy. I think the city needs to step up and officially recognize this area and put in some further measures to ensure it maintains its character and unique identity. It would be a shame to see a lot of the locally run businesses get replaced by generic chains.

Johnny Strides I really hope that they do. I use to frequent this area when I was younger with my family. It was always so vibrant and full of life. I’ve been living abroad for 5yrs or now and have been back in Toronto for about a month now. I took a walk through the area just the other day and it just seems so devastated. If the city had stuck to the original above ground transit plan, we wouldn’t have this mess today. The original transit city plan by David Miller would’ve transformed Toronto. Hindsight is 20/20 as they say 🤷🏾‍♂️.

That sad thing about this area is everything; it needs to change. I’m not sure what you’re seeing, but the amount gun violence is unsettling and these shops are not what the residents in the area want. Revitalization, gentrification, change... whatever you want to call it, this area needs it.

That construction mess still looks the same as when I left 7 years ago and moved out to Scarborough. I use to regular at that car wash by Alameda and the Popeyes by Oakwood. I remember watching the mini Caribbana a few years in a row by Spence's Bakery...wish I had tries the food from there.

Its Unfair that the City of Toronto can recognize Chinatown and East Chinatown, Little Italy and Corsa Italia, Koreatown, Little Portugal BUT NOT Little Jamaica, Little India or Little Manila. Thanks for titling your video as “Little Jamaica” 😊

I've tried most of the spots there. I still regularly hit raps. Used to go to a place called Mainshaw's which is now called "Entertainment Kitchen". Not sure if it's same owners and just changed the place up a bit. I've never seen that place Judy's, but I'm 100% going to check it out as I try every jerk chicken place in the city. (still haven't a very good one)

Sadly, the construction ruined Jamaican foods and this area. I used to go to buy Jamaica foods all the time since the 90's. I miss those days. Now everything is gone because of that.

Construction - short term pain = long term gain Toronto's subway system is non-existent compared to other cities of similar size. 2 lines is a joe. No more building new buses and streetcar lines. SUBWAYS are worth the cost.
@CDNChaoZ
@CDNChaoZ 3 жыл бұрын
Except it's kinda more like long term pain, possibly long term gain. I'm not even sure I would classify the Crosstown LRT as a subway.
@JohnnyStrides
@JohnnyStrides 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Mike Harris killed the original Eglinton West subway... now we're getting what's essentially underground streetcars? Given the spacing of the stops I wonder if there will be a surface route bus offered and if people are going to end up preferring that anyway lol

This was another great video and I enjoyed it very much. At 11:33, it looked and sounded like that lady was angry with the people pictured on the side of the bus stop. I’m wondering if everyone is familiar with the LRT acronym, so would you consider clarifying that in your next live stream and what effect it’s going to have for the TTC riders if they ever finish it? I agree that the city needs to recognize this community because that would potentially help preserve the cultural aspects and hopefully bring much needed tourism as well as improving the economy there. At 25:43, I laughed when you said, immediately after mentioning the cemetery, “Maybe since it’s so dead in this area, I’ll just start moving a little quicker”.

Another great video, you should do a free or affordable airbnb experience walking tour once COVID is over to get tourist back into the city. I swear you'd do a better job and be much cheaper then that Sightseeing Toronto Bus that picks up tourists at Young and Dundas square.

Something happened to the night lighting. It has become very dim, not just in Toronto. Actually, it is the same in Florida. When you run out of Toronto streets, come to Florida in the winter and make some videos of Miami.
