A playthrough of Little Nicky for the Game Boy Color, developed by Digital Eclipse and released in 2000.
(recorded because the other playthrough on KZfaq is missing a few bits, the last time i checked!)
Emulated in TGB-Dual. Passwords were used, so health is never an issue.

Yup. Both Game Boy Color and Little Nicky, I associate with the pre-9/11 days. 2000 was a pretty good year.

I tricked my grandparents into buying me this game. So much nostalgia. Full disclaimer they were also Jehovah's witnesses. I clearly was a little shit.

Surprised there wasn’t a Pixels game. If that movie released in 2004 or something. Bet your dollar there would be a video game

The voices and samples in the game literally sound like a toy with a dying battery. Not even joking, Sandler saying “Let’s rock and roll!!” sounds like a sound bite you’d hear on a kids’ toy, albeit slowed down and distorted

I only bought this game because I loved the Little Nicky movie as a kid. I think I toyed with the "Metal Mix" more than the game itself. Getting it as loud as possible. Its what I started hearing as soon as I remembered the game itself.

I'm mad we never got to see where the grandpa decided to put his brothers. Maybe you have to do something special to see it like get a perfect score or something. I played it but couldn't get it to show where grandpa put them.

Hoo boy. You're going to have to forgive my rambling, because there's a _lot_ to unpack here! The best way to describe how this game looks is, funnily enough, similar to the Elmo in Grouchland GBC game. Not only are they both mediocre platformers, Elmo and Nicky share a color palette, but they're both based on the idea of trying to sell to a demographic that Nintendo games didn't often pander to. Unfortunately, Little Nicky doesn't feel like you're really playing a game for grown-ups; sure, there's rock music, pentagrams, and the number of the beast in a game of darts, but a college kid would have way more fun looking for all the treasures and endings in Wario Land 2. There's some interesting ideas here (such as the fuel mechanic, the digitized music, the graphics [especially in the heaven level], and some of the jokes aren't half-bad), but this is definitely one of those games where I feel sorry if they bought it for more than $15. I know the GBC was punted underneath the bed when Nintendo realized the GBA was selling, but you've still got your Wario Land games, Pokemon, and the Oracle of _X_ series. Like, even Mario Land 2 and Donkey Kong for the original Game Boy are better! You're really between Scylla and Charbydis with this game - the subway levels are boring, but the collectathon levels make you regret it! It just barely ekes out a passable sense of adventure with the mall and heaven levels, but you have not one, not two, but three types of maze-like levels (the sewers, the apartment, and the maze of spikes)! The powers also looked a little redundant; outside of maybe the infinite jump, one wouldn't need them in every level; level-dependent usage of the B button for the belch, possess, flask, and release abilities would work just as well instead of the phone menu. The minigames all look a bunch of stinkers except perhaps for the Potato Head and Hitler ones. Then again, this could actually work in the _Elmo_ game; Have a Mr. Noodle head game, and a game where Oscar dumpster-dives for trash. Simple pick-up-and-play minigames would not only have added value to that game (You can literally clear it in 5 minutes on hard difficulty) without having to make the main platformer more difficult, but they're perfect for the preschool crowd a lot more than whoever is buying an Adam Sandler game. (Having Elmo pipe up from your video game would also be a lot more impressive to kids, y'know) This isn't to be taken as a slight on the developers; licensed games often hit that sweet spot of limited time/budget and sponsor restrictions/requests to where it's hard to make something good even when you're blatantly trying to copy a good game (Quest for Camelot, anyone?) Video game tie-ins can work well (I mean, a Spongebob game of all things has a speedrunning scene); good games like that can create this wonderful feeling of the source franchise being larger than life, but they often end up feeling half-baked and make you want to stick to the stuff the console maker is shilling; Mario, Spyro, etc. This phenomenon is still alive and well; discounting the lousy Farmville clones on the App Store (Simpsons, Family Guy, Smurfs, SpongeBob...) games like Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I Don't Know! still exist; it's a boring Gauntlet clone that tries to add enough fanservice and game references to appear relevant. By the way, Mr. Beefy did not appear enough.
