fun fact! theres a voice line before you get the wine bottle but have the bucket and rope. Red looks at the bucket filled with wine and says " im not a savage" and refuses to take it without having a bottle to put the wine in.

her grandmothers meat and blood specifically. little red riding hood is partially a coming to age story and partially a story warning young girls about strangers. the red represents periods, eating her grandmothers flesh and blood represents her maturing into a woman by ‘gaining’ her grandmothers maturity!

Honestly people could do SO much with red riding hood because of how many variations of the story could be further molded. Like the one where riding hood makes it back home surprisingly, but the wolf had let red riding hood eat some *meat* in the fridge . I think that was one of the oldest ones, and it was basically her eating her grammas flesh.

@@alisatoline I think she remembers the teeth from her childhood, when she saw the original wolf eat her grandmother. She might've even had a back and forth with a wolf in granny gear, who knows. She also remembers the wolf dying. Maybe the shadows were just foreshadowing Red being eaten, or turning herself if the curse is weird enough to require its victim to be soaked in gastric juices. Though, you'd think everyone would just *plop* out of the tummy maw, of course they'd be mangled to hell but, still. Eh, magic will magic I guess.

Fun fact: one of the oldest Little Red Riding Hood type stories with a maiden, a grandma in the woods, and a wolflike creature, is from Medieval France and is known as "the grandmother's tale" It's darker than the more popular versions today, with a bzou (werewolf) in place of a talking wolf. He chops up grandma's body and feeds it to the maiden, and tells her to throw her clothes on the fire and get in the bed with him. She actually survives in this version, escaping the bzou with the help of women washing laundry in the river. The bzou asks them to help him across, as they helped the maiden, but they let him drown to protect her. So it makes sense that Little Red gets a horror twist as often as it does. It would be neat to get some of the older elements like the washer women or the "path of pins or path of needles" question though

The OG wolf was good, killed the Grandma, but when the wolf was killed the evil spirit of the grandmother transformed her into another, "imposter" wolf. This whole thing seems like an allegory for growing up with a narcissist. If you think of the traditional story, and this version as what _"really"_ happened, the traditional story is exactly how a narcissist would spin it. Let me explain. In this story, the grandmother was an evil cannibal and the wolf was summoned to stop her. The wolf succeeded, but unbeknownst to everyone a new variable appeared: Little Red Riding hood. Not wanting to get an innocent child involved in this, the traditional hijinks ensued, until Little Red ultimately discovered what happened to EG. The well-meaning but misinformed woodcutter/huntsmen/whatever killed the OG wolf, thinking it was evil. With the OG wolf dead, the EG's spirit was freed, but was cursed to take the wolf's form to prowl around because she was just. *that. evil.* Now. The traditional story is exactly how the narcissist(EG) or someone duped by the narcissist (Little Red) Would tell it: The poor, frail EG was minding her own business when some EeViL wOLf came out of nowhere and ate her for _literally no reason!~_ The poor Little Red called for help and the hero Huntsman/Woodcutter saved the day and avenged poor grandma's soul

At the end of the "bad ending" you can see little red riding hood and grandma at the cave entrance and *both* their shadows are wolves. At the good ending she does a "slight smile" seeing the cat (a predator like the wolf) playing with a dead bird (the food). This makes is questionable which is actually the good ending.

Kinda interesting how in the "Bad Ending" both Red and her Grandmother's shadows resembled that of the wolf. Also, can we just take a moment to appreciate Ascat's facial expressions? They were so good, especially the one when he talks about the damage in the house was only from within (21:01), and when the Grandmother was finally showing her true colors. (23:13), as well in 23:53.

_I missed MBH saying "Potion"_ The grandmother's house here was a gingerbread house, so it fits that she had all the bones in her kitchen. And a recipe for a Confinement spell. Amazing that Red seems normal... well, except for enjoying Ascat playing with a dead bird. I guess that's cute Another interesting spin on Red Riding Hood tale with a cool Sphynx-looking cat.

The wolf speaking in the grandma's voice reminds me of that fairytale where a wolf tries to get into 7 baby sheep's house by mimicking the voice of their mother.

When I was a child I always thought of the story little red riding hood as the wolf technically eating everybody and there was blood everywhere I was used to watching horror movies back then but hey I'm still a teen... I'm scared as f**k

First time being this early--- yay for me! Love it when they mix fairy tales! Also if you think that Red Riding Hood is grim you should read the original versions of most fairy tales. Being forced to wear "red-hot iron slippers" and dance until I drop dead sounds much scarier than being eaten by a wolf ngl...

@I LIKE SIRIUS Snow White. In Cinderella, as told by the Grimm brothers, the stepsisters chop parts of their feet off in an attempt to fit in the slipper. Later, while they attend the wedding, Cinderella commands the doves to strike their eyes, blinding them. You can find this info on the wikipedia. Into the Woods also refers to this but doesn't really show any gore that I'm aware of. Most fairy tales you know from Disney are originally prettttyyy gruesome.

For some reason the grandmother reminds me of my mother- they are different but they both have issues and my mother tricked me many times like the grandma- my mom wasn't a cannibal pr anything bit she was abusive but now I live with my dad- I still got ptsd but I am doing okay and better then I did before.

Okay, so Grandma is the witch from Hanzel and Gretel, the Wolf(likely a werewolf maybe) killed Grandma, but with witch magic she turned into a demon wolf. The wolf then killed The Three Little Pigs, or at least two, a number of children, along with her own family. Ascat, watched it all.

All of the fairytale references were very nice! The cat was reminiscent of the Cheshire Cat, in the cave was the pig head and his straw house used as bedding and the grandmother being the witch who ate children was an especially cool reveal. I’m sure there was some I missed as well like with the well and the frogs but the ones I caught were really cool!

haha thank you for noticing!! no one had put together 3 little pig reference yet haha. theres also a bunch of figurines in grandmas house representing other nursery rhymes like jack and jill, jack jumped over the candle stick ect. The well was just for getting the wine but if you can find a good reference it could be im claiming its that haha.

Since no one has mentioned it yet... *Spoiler* 21:47 you can see the grandma's shadow being a wolf but also Red's shadow? Does this mean her soul is also tainted now? Or is being cursed by a wolf inheritable?

I believe it's symbolism of the nature of being an accomplice knowing full well what her grandma is implying rather than being hunted by the grandma she will take on her legacy and influence.

The art here is great, I loved that shot that Manly took the time to point out how nice it actually looked. This isn't the first we've seen Little Red Riding Hood be twisted into something even darker, but I liked the spin this game took to it.
