What gets me about Beth is... she's just so innocent, shy & awfully caring. Her death is so sad because she knows it's coming, accepts it before her own family does, and makes peace with it. She isn't angry or sad, she's like the flame of a candle; simply going out.

He's not being toxic or anything when he tells her about her writing. If someone asks honestly for constructive criticism about their work, and asks for it in a professional sense rather than just showing a friend, they have to be prepared to receive actual criticism and advice on how their work could be better

From what I’ve read about LMA and with all of the interpretations of Jo March, I think for me, it’s clear that Jo March is queer coded and I always thought that this version would have been absolute perfection if Greta leaned into that a bit but I understand her wanting to honor the source material. It’s beautifully done. The best adaptation yet imo. Also, Laurie isn’t being manipulative with jo in that moment that he expresses he would rather be dead. Jo and Laurie are kind of one in the same in terms of how they express themselves and I think Laurie was just being a bit dramatic in order to express how messed up he feels about it all lol I also feel like this was such a beautiful way to portray Amy and for once she’s shown the way I saw her growing up when reading the book and watching the other versions. Amy understand the world she’s living in and while Jo is a dreamer, Amy is a bit more grounded in reality and self awareness. Even though she’s limited in her options, in a way it does feel like she has a good sense of agency of herself. And Jo isn’t in love with Laurie, but due to her loneliness she was willing to settle with and for him because of how much HE loves her. It’s just like her mother said. I think she makes peace with that in the moment that Laurie reveals he’s married Amy. I believe that she knows how much it wouldn’t have worked and that she can’t use Laurie to make her feel better about her life and herself. Laurie wants to be a March. In a way he was kind of in love with the family as a whole. I feel like he realizes later on how right Jo was because they’re so alike in such a way that would undoubtedly ended in pain for the both of them. But you also have to take into account where Laurie comes from and the kind of person he is in that context and then I think that he and Amy make a bit more sense. The novel itself speaks more to the wealth dynamic and so much of LMA’s personal life is what makes this story. Greta really understands this novel and these characters and has done something really special.

I love this version for giving Jo a non-romantic ending. My view was that the actual ending in reality is that Jo marries no one and publishes her book as her peak ideal (tinted blue), and the super happy family and romance ending (tinted yellow) is Jo's book Little Women with the ending the publisher wanted. I prefer the 90s version over this one, but this version has my favorite characterizations of Laurie and Amy’s relationship. Claire Danes will always be the best Beth, though.

during the ice skating scene, you asked if Laurie wasnt hearing Amy, well the truth is that he is JOs friend, i dont know if u get, but its like, u have a friend and she has siblings, to keep ur friendship with ur friend, u dont go about being close to their siblings wen u notice they r not that close to their own siblings, especially in this case when he doesnt really know them, i mean he spends most of his time with Jo. its kinda like, he is a family friend and his only passage to their family is through Jo, also he obviously really likes jo, nd wouldnt want to upset her

I enjoyed your commentary 🙂 This film is similar to A Star is Born in that there’s so many remakes. I enjoyed the unique flair this version of Little Women showed us but I also recommend the ‘90s version in your own time. Winona Ryder, Christian Bale, Susan Sarandon and many more great actors.

The professor is Meta. They wouldn't let her publish her book without marrying Jo. Joni's based on the author much like the rest of them are her real family. In real life it's believed allcott was gay which would make sense as to why she doesn't want to marry Lauri or anyone. It's theador Laurence (Lauri) sometimes Jo calls him Teddy as well but as Lauri points out only she calls him that

This movie will become a timeless classic...this movie is just so damn good and such a feel good movie and might i dare say that this movie is on level with Forrest Gump..its just that good

If some characters have English accidents, like the aunt, it's because they were originally English until moving to the US.
