I think it's probably time for the smash scene to realise "hey maybe we're not safe for Nintendo to work with given you google Smash scene and get nothing but drama and some downright disgusting things" The damage has been done probably nothing more can be done to work with Nintendo. Its not like they're clueless about comp scenes. They do it with Pkm Company every year because they can actually run a tournement unlike Smash who seems to fuck things up at every step

I totally agree with Hopcat actually. I had the same reflexion at some point. The problem with this is though even if it's 100% true, this take is pointless in actuality in the end. Here is why. At the end of the day Nintendo always is the biggest problem, we know it. But since Nintendo is untouchable, if we're smart as a community we should at least try not to mess up our interactions with them when they make a step towards the Smash Community. And that's precisely what Alan did. So it just makes sense that the community is against him and not Nintendo. It's the only reaction we're allowed to have basically. Nintendo is what you have to deal with, like it or not and it doesn't seem like they're going to change their attitude anytime soon. So you can always put Nintendo out of the equation because of this. The only thing we can do regarding them is to try to respond in the best way when they decide to do a step in the right direction for the community. And Alan simply fucked up at doing this simple thing. He deserves all the hate because hating on Nintendo is pointless even if they also absolutely deserve it in short. Alan knew it was big, he knew it was a special opportunity and that makes what he did even way worse and unforgivable.

On Alan's response, I read the until the "VGBC set it up as a win-win" (basically the first 2 pages) since that's not the case. They lost 100s of thousands on this shit dude, it wasn't a setup to get clout. At that point it was enough to see that he wasn't in the right so that was enough for me

I don't think Nintendo is to blame is really a correct sentiment since as of right now they have canceled zero events and only said that it's a possibility and the two world sircut's that got canceled was a bunch of to's being dick heads. I know that the narrative that Nintendo is pulling the strings from the shadows as an evil corporate titan is an alluring one. but the facts are the only voices that deserve to be heard. And as of now Nintendo did literally nothing to intentionally ruin the smash community just like EVERY party in this ordeal has communicated including smash world tour themselves
