@@venusette I have already have seen enough of it at Pune and elsewhere, thank you, with their generous complement of orderlies , batmen, drivers and cars, , jamadar, malis, khansamas, butler , bearer, dog walkers, et al all in tow, (wish I had recorded it!) obeying more in fear of the formidable Memsahib than the Sahib! Me and fellow shopper's at Dorabjees, Computer stores Amanora/Seasons Malls regularly witness the squirming lower ranks in action.

The above comment is in response to your previous reply to my "Hard to believe" comment. Your reply was , that soon after you got married , the first quarters that you had moved into was easily 70years old, with walls peeling and flaking, and had blackened cement floors , infested with frogs and snakes. Also ,you added, that if I have any friends or relations in the defence services, to check this fact out. That reply of yours is now missing, probably deleted, by you, for reasons best known to you. So if anyone reads what I have written , they will be mystified and probably wonder what the connection is , unaware of the previous matter, now missing! So, just putting things in context.

A neighbour, whose husband was a Major, who when he was posted in a remote location, had 2 orderlies attached ON DUTY!! to dig up the soil in their one acre plot ,dig trenches around their coconut trees, prune and trim all the mango trees , clear their plot of weeds and shrubs, water their garden, and God knows what other odd jobs they were assigned to do , for the entire duration of her stay there, while Madam swanned about with full Army empowerment . There are other retired officers of colonel and brigadier rank, who have the army insigna screwed firmly on to their car number plate, years after they have retired and ARMY sticker plastered as large as life all over the wind shield and rear window. This they do, to ensure right of way on the Pune roads, , again out of a ridiculous sense of entitlement ...date expired!! And of course the Army Officers mess, every Saturday night is a wonderful dinner retreat and an occasion to play BRIDGE, for retired officers families en masse . The food is fabulous. They are retreated royally by fawning lower ranks. And they have to pay ONLY a pittance. Home truths mostly swept under the carpet 🤔
