Out Run is an arcade game released by Sega in September 1986. It’s known for its pioneering hardware and graphics and innovative features such as nonlinear gameplay and a selectable soundtrack. Designed as a racing game where the goal is to avoid traffic and reach one of five destinations, Out Run was set up for players to enjoy the experience of driving.

"Can I change a quid? I need some 10p's for the game..." Ah, the 80's. What a time to be alive! Subbed and a +1 for Mario Kart!

I believe I've played it in the early 90's. I was obsessed with driving (I was too young to drive at the time) so I begged my dad for some coins. Shame that he never made it till I was old enough to drive a real car... It's nice that a three and a half decade old game can bring back lots of memories for me.

I played Outrun for the first time in Brighton when it first came to England I still have a go on the Switch. No home computer could run Out Run when it came out but the Switch runs it easy. For me Out Run gave a really great sense of summer and being free.

Interesting channels both big and little car, subbed both. Out Run was the game which made me absolutely want the Commodore 64 in the 80's and I still have Amiga 500 & Out Run in working condition. That's the game I always want to play when I have the Amiga set up for use.

I was a teenager when Out Run came out and spent many a happy hour during the summers of the late 80s playing it. The graphics look a bit clunky now but were way ahead of anything else in the genre at the time, while clearly related to "Hang On" which was also popular. The selectable sound track on the radio was a great little idea. Way head of Pole Position, Monaco Grand Prix and any other driving game of the time. I got the Sega Master System port when it came out but while it was decent, 8-bit consoles just weren't capable of shifting those graphics around. One of the last arcade games that I played frequently, if I close my eyes there I am on Hayling Island in the summer of 1987 shovelling 10p's into the upright Out Run cabinet.

You knew you had mastered Out Run when you could finish each track option. A friend and I would flip a coin as the other drove deciding what track we had to choose at each split. Disparaging remarks would be made if we were unable to finish the 5 stages.

You're doing other videos now?! This has genuinely made my day! You need to check out the superb 'Cannonball' port of OutRun, which is the OutRun engine totally re-written so the game can run natively in widescreen, and at 60fps.

Once you notice that the image of the car flips depending on what direction your went (very noticeable on the ferrari prancing horse emblem) you won't be able to unsee it. I remember noticing that as a kid when playing this. Sorry if i ruined it for you now.

"The soundtrack is similar in style to Latin and Caribbean music" - Yes, but have you heard of the Japanese band Casiopea? I'm convinced that Hiroshi Kawaguchi must have been a fan. Most of his music from this period sound like Casiopea. Listen to this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qJ2antV1p9Gxd30.html

@@siddheshpillai3807 Most retro games are better left in our memories from the time. Playing them, for me, often spoils the memory because they are so crude compared to modern games but I'd still like to hear about the history. I'd have to disagree about Eminem though. His early work is timeless. I'm not fond of his later music but I suppose that's a bit like the games, newer stuff is fresher and therefore more interesting. Ems relevance is all about his early music, and for that he holds an eternal status as a rap god.

@@Jesus_Iced i disagree for one new games can't compete with old games when you consider A. the old games may not have predatory malpractices like mtx And B. Dev's today are more ignorant than ever that why I compare underground to Eminem. Yes i agree Eminem has legacy but that doesn't mean he get free pass praise for music and just like Eminem need for Speed can't compete shadow of its former self
