This is the song I liked the most when I was like 6. Then the casette broke, and I could listen to it 10 years later. As a child, I could understand the lyrics. But the thing that stayed in my mind during all those years is this incredibly powerful synth melody at the beginning. When as a child, you hear such power behind a melody, it haunts you. Even NLMDA wasn't at this level. Seriously, only a true masterpiece can mark someone at such a young age, when little really matters to you, and can stay in their head, without relistening to it, and this during an entire decade. A true masterpiece which only people with the finest taste can enjoy to the fulliest, can enjoy. This is why we listen to music, this is why we hear, this is the reason why we live.

The shot at 2:23 when Martin joins Dave to sing the final "bone" of the first chorus and the smoke is swirling in the green spotlights is one of the most gorgeous moments of the film. I agree, the final chorus when Dave and Martin are doing the call and response with "let me hear you speaking just for me" and "let me crying just for me" is very powerful. And of course Alan and Martin hitting the pads to trigger the metal percussion is very cool.

I was too young to appreciate/go to this tour, but I watched my 101 VHS copy religiously once I hit high school. This performance is one of my all time faves and why so many of us love and miss Alan -- his creativity and musical genius! I LOVE that you pointed out the "instruments". In the 101 documentary Alan gives a demo of hitting these pads and I can only imagine what this sounded like in person. You can feel the atmosphere.

"Stripped" was the first song I ever heard by them, the lyrics and the melody just drew me in and I've been a fan of theirs since. I was fifteen and it was the early 90s.

If you were never on a DM concert you have to! It is a great party with friendly peole!!! it´s fun and smooth and just good. The people are helpful to each other it´s like a big family. I can´t explain that you have to excerience it.

I used to go and see the lads preform in the clubs of Essex England in front of crowds of about 100 people. I saw them 2 weeks ago at Twickenham England. Top performers. One of the biggest bands in the world.

Literally every song on Live 101 is better played live than the album versions.

What you hear is one the highland mix of stripped. Alan produced all live songs back in the day. You hear the sound of dave’s porsche 911 in the background 😊.

I love these videos! It's almost like hearing/seeing Depeche for the first time, through your eyes. (Dig the Clockwork Orange look, BTW. All you need is one fake eyelash.) The emotion on Dave's face was real. He said later that seeing that large of a crowd, by far the biggest they'd seen, was just overwhelming. If you ever see the 101 documentary, you can see Dave after the show just break down. This is one of the most important concerts of the "New Wave" era. It was the 80's electronic Woodstock. I think six other bands played before DM, including Thomas Dolby and the Pet Shop Boys. This happened to be the first tour that I saw them, my first year in high school. And yes, I do know how lucky I am. No time since has equaled it. On the stage, do you notice what's missing? There's no projection screens! Just the band, instruments, and lights. That's all you need. God I miss those days! DM makes me wish we could selectively suppress memories, so that everytime I heard a Depeche song, it would be as if it was for the first time.

Back in in 1986 I didn't like Stripped at all. But a couple months later I heard Breathing In Fumes and was blown away, I loved it but didn't make the connection at first. When I found out it was "Stripped" I gave Stripped another chance and it became a favorite of mine and is probably my favorite DM song of all time.

The part you thought was a train is a sample of a moter bike on idle. The start of the track is from Daves Porsche 911 he had at the time. I think the 101 version of Stipped is my fave. .

Some extra data... The "instruments" as you called them are called pads. Alan Wilder said in an interview of the 101 film that are like extra keys for the synths/samplers and demostrates that hitting one of them is the same process as playing a key of the keboard, but the combination of playing the synth and doing some percussion stuff live is just amazing, a really good show!

I appreciate your reaction... Live version a million times better than studio. The studio versions are so clean and polished it's like they're naked and just out of the shower. The live versions put some stylish clothes on and they're ready to do the town!
