Live Aid

4 жыл бұрын

35 years ago today, the greatest concert of all time took place. This rare footage shows absolutely fascinating, never-seen-before insights into the backstage preparations and activities before, during and after the show. It features many of the world’s most renowned music artists rubbing shoulders and uniquely captures the excitement of the day.
Live Aid was organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for the Ethiopian famine disaster. Broadcast across the world via one of the largest satellite link-ups of all time, the concerts were seen by around 40% of the global population.

I was two weeks away from my 18th birthday. I stayed home all day and got up early not to miss a second. Watched entire show. One of the best and most memorable days of my life. I'm now two weeks away from turning 53. Lol I just stumbled upon this sitting at a bus stop killing time. Anything from this day is always good to watch and can cheer up my worst day or moods. "It's 12 noon in London, 7am in Philadelphia, and around the world it's time for Live Aid". Shortly after this, the guards played and then Status Quo lit the fuse. As an 11 year old kid, I cried watching a stadium of people jump to Rockin' All Over the World on the grandparent's rented TV. Music is a pretty good reason for living.

I was there 35 yrs ago, what a day, there's never been another like it. I have some amazing black and white photos taken by Murray Sanders, a photographer with a Portsmouth newspaper who I got chatting to, he let me climb his step ladder and look through his long lens while U2 were on stage, totally amazing, and I still have my Live Aid t shirt, a bit faded and tatty around the edges, but I'll always treasure it, it would be lovely to reminisce with others who were there and compare our memories

I watched the Live Aid concert, from my house in a suburb of Philadelphia, where the American half of Live Aid was being held. The only bad part of that great day, was my grandmother (who had just come to live with me & my parents) insisting she wanted to make potato salad, and making me miss part of the concert, because I had to run from store to store looking specifically for "red potatoes", that she just had to have.
