Our goal is to take Ryzen over 5GHz, featuring the R7 2700X. We'll also be overclocking memory and benchmarking with Cinebench. Liquid Nitrogen is being used for this XOC Ryzen benchmark, all leading into the Ryzen 3000 series specs unveil at Computex.

At 1:10:20 you talk about auto voltage setting in Bios sometimes blasting the CPU with unwanted voltage, well you were 100% right. My 9900k at stock setting everything auto and no limit goes to 202w TDP when doing R15 and when i put a stable voltage of 1.28 it stoped at 155w and i got the same score. Thx for that info!

I got a r5 1600 only a few months after it launched and only have it under a dark rock 4. The imc is clearly bad as it won't push past 3000mhz but I have been able to tighten the timings significantly. I have also been able to get my chip up to 4.23ghz @1.5v, obviously this isn't my everyday clocks but for testing it is quite impressive. I have had a lot of fun messing around with my system and I'm happy to see ryzen getting pushed much further.

At 1:11:42 you discuss auto settings for voltage. I remember my Maximus Hero VII(?) set auto voltage to 1.42v with nothing changed. I managed to achieve 4.7GHz on that chip at 1.328. speaking of more of an engineer than an "Extreme" overclocker... is like a backyard mechanic vs a real one. IE propane at 30psi of boost with 10:1Compression -5deg spark, forged everything vs 500 shot of niox with bone stock parts. that being said, ram overclocking, would it not make sense to adjust for wattage draw by increasing the procODT to 60 to 80 ohms when pushing more voltage. probably a question for tin over some HCOC'er

someone asked why not APU extreme overclocking, good question, i have XOC'd my 2400G and performance wall you hit is pretty limited this is thanks to the crappy cheap IMC inside the APU, massively bandwidth starved already at 1600Mhz iGPU clock and CPU sure not as memory bounded but stops scaling... i managed 1775Mhz iGPU but only 3450mhz on memory and scaling from 1600 to 1750 was tiny few fps at best, really bandwidth starved. maybe 3xxx series desktop APUs will be different and have better memory controllers to allow xoc of memory.

So I'm watching and of course it's (my aside) a thing of the future and not the present, but using cooling systems you can collect energy from an environment, upgrade it, and then place or focus it on a small place,,, Then you can use some process or another to produce electricity, ,, Computer cooling systems are "cooler" when they start getting more high tech, because you can imagine a self-powered machine. (it's NOT a perpetual motion machine, there's plenty of energy in room temperature air, especially if we're eating burgers)
@tsmspace

Overclocking used to be a cool way to get some extra oohmf from a 1.6GHz P4 or P3 and or P2 processors before that, but now a days, whats the point? CPUs are so well built, with process errors down to such a small margin, that you really just get what you pay for architecture wise. I mean... I am runing a 980X at 4.4GHz water cooled since 2011 and only had to replace my coolant 1x. Overclocking and pushing the limits is not as fun as it used to be and kind of pointless today. Back in the day requirements for CPU power were increasing very rapidly, so OC let you use older CPU with newer software for longer, but we've been hovering around 4GHz for so long now that there is no software requiring 5GHz CPU.

I am surprised that Steve (who is reasonably fit, we see him mountainbiking) can't lift that can of N2, I am not a strong guy (I can't even do 1 pullup) but I can lift 30-40 kg from the ground on my shoulders. It might be the shape of the can? On the topic of Zen2, why would it not be able to boost to 5.0 GHz? I am not saying that it will - even though there was a leak the last days that AMD has already shown a 3700X do that - but from a theoretical point of view I don't see any reason why it would not be possible. TSMC 7 nm. vs. GF 14 nm. (rebranded as 12 nm. if you want to get nitpicky) and Intel 14 nm. Sure, it is a new node and there could be growing pains like Intel had on Haswell but there is no reason to assume that a CPU with TSMC 7 nm can't get to that clock frequency.

@@BeardedHardware That I agree with. The last days AdoredTV has hinted on Twinter that the 3700X would get a boost of 5 GHz. RedGamingTech asked his contacts, they confirmed 5 GHz but he hasn't been told how many cores would boost to that. A pinch of salt and all that but I am inclined to believe it given that OEM's would have gotten a demonstration of the CPU's, according to both their sources. I am well aware that new nodes can struggle at first (Haswell) but if Intel gets to 5.3 GHz on Coffee Lake then why not AMD to 5.0 GHz on TSMC 7 nm. GF their 14 nm node excelled at a low power until a moderately high clock frequency (around 3.5 GHz) with an almost linearly curve for frequency vs. voltage. That node was not developed for high performance computing but for low power devices. TSMC its 7 nm node was developed for high performance computing, allegeldy. Of course you also have to involve the architecture, pipelines and IPC, the clock frequency on its own is not that relevant. Anyway, if that 3700X has 12 cores, costs €350 or less and boosts to 5.0 GHz then I will buy it for sure. I still have an old quadcore CPU from Intel, I always liked Ryzen but I wanted that higher single-thread performance.

I am SOOOOO salty where is my 1787 for the ryzen 1500x there? it slaughter's that 12xx on that xeon being shown,.....grrrr...cant find my picture for r17 but here is for r20 that is only at 3.5ghz all core chip will run 3.95 but i forgot to screenie that and it's a bit of a pain to get stable because asrock decided to put the cmos jumper behind where my graphics card sits.if someone want's to send me a board without that stupid flaw i'd be happy to do more testing and go for higher clocks i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr50/deadric8/cinabench%20with%20shit%20running_zpsbqmg9oyz.jpg

Pull a reset button from another case and connect that to your CMOS jumper.

All the CMOS jumper does it put your CMOS voltage to ground, it drains the charge. Some boards (not as often) use the jumper to complete the voltage circuit. Most just short it to ground to clear the CMOS. You'll have to hold the button for a few seconds. I've had a few systems where the jumper had to be on there for ten minutes or more to clear, so it may be impractical, but most it's like 30 seconds or so. All you're doing with the reset button is extending the circuit. When the reset button is open so is the circuit. When you hold the reset button it is the same as putting the jumper over the pins.

@@glenwaldrop8166 Hmm I forgot i have the 3 pin style 1,2 for normal 2,3 for reset so that idea probably wont work..But it did give me the idea of getting a dpdt switch tho so thanks anyways :)
