Live performance is where it is at! With time everyone can be great in the studio. If you truly love your craft, you must take the time to perfect your skills. The greats put in the work! Mr. Hall has some of the greatest live musicians coming to his house! You can tell that these people put in the work! If you can't play live, you can't play period! Same goes for vocalist. If you can sing it in person, you can sing! I love his show!

One of the great joys of Daryl's House is watching the guest musicians. Some get all giddy and their knees buckle when Daryl nods at them to take the next verse. Butch Walker is a great example - the first album he ever bought was Hall & Oates and he can hardly believe his good fortune. The Darius Rucker episode was an exercise in gratitude - Darius has been around long enough to know that the music they made that day was something truly special. Watch him lip syncing when Daryl is singing his lyrics in "Come Back Song" and rejoice with him (update, the song I was thinking of is actually "Laughing Down Crying" but they are both A-plus). Kenny Loggins came in all bossy and alpha and at the end of the "This Is It" video he says "I thought Daryl wasn't going to know how to do this song but... I forgot [whose House I was in]."

Fun facts: Daryl Hall met The Temptations when he was 17 being a huge fan of their's. Hall & Oates are also the one's to induct The Temptations into the R n' R HOF. And they not only played together with them at "Live Aid", as well as other occasions. Plus a live performance @ the Apollo and album called Live at the Apollo with Eddie Kendricks, & David Ruffin. So, yeah it no mystery that Daryl truly plays this stuff from the heart & soul.

If you want to dive into Train a little bit more, you can't go wrong with "Drops of Jupiter" or "Drive By."
