Very sad the news of the death of Ronnie Hawkins, he was undoubtedly a legend and the one who made it possible for the 5 members of The Band to meet.
Levon first joined on drums, despite the fact that in his previous bands he played guitar. Then Robbie would join on bass, although he already knew that he would later be the guitarist, since Fred Carter Jr. had announced that he would leave the band. Then Rick Danko would join in to play rhythm guitar, he learned to play bass after Rebel Payne left the band. Later Richard Manuel would join in with what he would describe as a "rhythm piano" but what earned him a place as a Hawk was his incredible voice. Hawkins originally had to buy Hudson's time. The only way Hudson would agree to join the band was if he was paid to give everyone music lessons as well as being paid as a regular gigging member of the Hawks. Hudson joined up a little before Christmas 1961.
And with these 6 incredible musicians, the nucleus of what would be Ronnie Hawkins and The Hawks would be formed. Certainly, Ronnie Hawkins had a keen eye for finding talented musicians.
In the photo Danko is playing a 6-string bass (like the one The Beatles used for Let It Be)

Thanks for another great release... Yes, we will miss the great Ronnie.. Cool early version of Share Your Love.. For the last 4 years I have been living near Lakefield ON, which is just north of Peterborough, and a little south-west of Stoney Lake, where Ronnie had resided for many decades. About 11 years ago my boss had a house party, where Robin Hawkins (Ronnie's son) and his band played. I was able to sit in on the drums for a couple of tunes. .... Great fun....

For people like me who wished Robbie’s solo on the single/album cut Who Do you Love could go on forever, well it almost does here! Thanks to whoever taped this and thanks for posting. Listening to it, it is easy to understand why Dylan wanted these Hawks as his backing band.

I think this was at the Windjammer in London 67 or 68. Bobby Vinton was on the bill.

Was this sourced from a reel to reel tape?

I think most of the show is an audience recording (especially for the yells), but at first it sounded like a tape recording, otherwise it sounds great.

Is it safe to assume that Robbie Robertson was playing guitar here? Or not.

Guess I was wrong- just heard Ronnie mention both Garth and Robbie by name.

I’d think, given the year, but sounds a bit more like pre Robbie. I’m probably wrong, as I am in most cases. Lol.
