Live bait fishing from kayak for red drum/redfish. This technique also works for striped bass, trout, and other saltwater fish. Live mullet, live bunker, and other techniques will yield big fish.

Not early at all for our area for old drum. (It’s not a bull.). Drum like that do not migrate as. Much as one thinks. I tag drum here locally and they will get in here when that water starts at about 60 degrees. Bigger numbers when it gets up to 64-65 regularly.

Spot are great live bait, I still use them when I can catch some, mostly in the fall here for big stripers. Nice to hear someone used them besides me.

That was a sweet red drum for sure. Definitely looked like a blast to lock horns with. Glad to see you did have some luck this early in the spring. Heard a rumor that the Spanish mackerel were already in. Hopefully the weather will break soon and I'll get the chance to head your way.

Parent Tip: Using small fish is great if you are fishing with children as they stay happy catching fish and you never run out of bait.

My biggest fluke to date was caught on a 6” spot. But you’re right, we used to go out with a 100 foot stone to get them and end up releasing a lot of extras but last couple years we haven’t been able to fond them

Not a ton of fish but some real quality! That Red drum was a slob, sad to see the tail rot on a beast like that. Very nice trout too, thought you might be keepin em, but some good karma to see em swim for another day. Have a good one Elias!

Fish pockets and drop off..... Go to TJ's, Jeanette's Pier, and Avon Pier and ask the locals what is up. They will put you on the fish. Oh yeah also check The Fisherman's Post (OBX fishing report) to see where they are biting and how to catch em. Good luck my friend. If I new what was your target species I could give better advice. God bless. -The Bearded FishBilly 🐟🐟🐟

oh yeah - i like this new algo tweak - think about going offshore on nice days and trolling on the way out and then chumming with a frozen block of chum - move when you attract too many sharks - lots of gret pelagics to hook into out there - sure you may get spooled once in a while but that is part of the package - i think small una and kings and small makos should be your target species? whatever bites - you have the fish painter so that helps a lot #mini canyons - big live baits work great #striper candy #fair weather fishing

Was that an infected injury on that red’s tail or some other disease? Specks love live croakers. Croakers will catch bigger trout than live shrimp and won’t be bothered as much by tiny bait stealers. Gotta rig them to keep them from hiding in the mud or weeds, though, which they will do when they are injured by being put on a bait hook.

Yes. They get called different names regionally, and you’ll typically get berated for referring to one with the different name depending where you are located.

Why would you not use a circle hook?
@EliasVFishing
@EliasVFishing Жыл бұрын
I don’t notice any difference in gut hook ratio if you set the hook after the initial bump, just a little slack so it doesn’t tear the bait off immediately after killing it. Especially with larger baits the hook up ratio is much better when sticking him within 1-2 seconds on an octopus. As you have stuff in the rod holders and reaction time is slower you are far more likely to gut hook thus a preference for circles.
